I never really liked Exxon, and never really went there unless I was sputtering and had no other options.

My car requires the highest octane possible (turbo) and Exxon charges the same price or more for 92 octane, as other gas stations charge for 93. what a rip off. Although to be fair this may just be a local thing - they sell you mid grade at high octane prices and now they complain they haven't made enough profits even though they made like billions and billions

As noted in the article it's probably not actually an exxon station but a station that pays to use the name, hence the higher price.
