F*ck rum

hey cool, drunkthread. My point of view is that if you think rum is shit you are not drinking it well or not drinking it the right way or you are just ill-informed; RUM IS A GREAT DRINK.

If you're not drunk-to-the-point-of-vomiting-inside-your-own-shirt yet, try a rum old-fashioned - Brown sugar, angostura bitters, lemon, lime, maraschino cherry, RUM, ice, RUM on top, twist of lime is how I like mine

Rum should be drunk neat from the bottle. This will help women judge the size of your penis.

Actually RUM THREAD GO.

Currently I'm drinking Old Monk Rum, which despite sounding very dodgy is absolutely great - it's pretty rough around the edges, but it's got a dark, caramel spice to it that goes so well with colas or on its own or with lime and sugar.

I've also got a bottle of Angostura 5 year-old rum from Trinidad/Tobago, which is a much gentler affair, honey and soy notes.

I'd also highly recommend Mount Gay Extra Old, one of the few rums I've found that can be appreciated neat in the same way one drinks a Scotch or Irish whiskey

Also Pyrat rum, and Havana Especial!

For Mojitos or white rum mixed drinks/cocktails, I'd recommend Stolen Rum - their gold is very acceptable, but the white rum has a delicate balance to it which matches up very nicely with almost anything. It's a New Zealand brand, so I'm not sure on its availability elsewhere, but if you see it, pick it up! It also has one of the coolest bottles around

It's The kraken, and it's really tasty, I've just chugged a lot of it on an empty stomach.

I need to buy brown sugar.

I've realized now that the enter button isn't making a post.

Also I need angosutra bitters lemons, limes, cherries, and lime twists.

You dont have angosutra bitters lemons in your fridge ready and waiting? whats wrong with you man?

Also: Ive never really tried mixing rum with anything but coke. KA youre going to make me an alcoholic

Rum is the great. I like Havana Club myself. Om nom nom!

A rum and coke mixed perfectly is amazing and you can taste hints of vanilla.

Had vodka again last night for the first time in ages. Forgot how goddamn awful that drink is.

I've only had a few of the more commonplace Rums. The Kraken was the best so far, but I'm going to give KA's post a look over next time I get together with my rum drinking friends.

Lol, those last three words are so very close to being something very gross.

did you put your dick into the rum bottle?

I like Rum.... always liked Black Heart, unfortunately Rum doesn't like me. I get uber-violent when I drink Rum. Weird, its the only alcohol that does it.

420 consume hallucinogenic herbs daily

The only rum I drink regularly is Malibu, it's ok by it'self but better with coke. I've never noticed it having any different effects than any other alcohol.

I once drank some Rum with an alcoholic content of ~60% and ever since can't go near the stuff. Can't at all remember what it was called but no amount of lager would wash the taste away. Makes me shudder just thinking of it.

I have the same issues but with gin. I drank the better part of a whole bottle of Gordons, neat, all in the space of a couple hours.

We do not talk of what happened that day.

You'd hate Poiteen then. Its a Gaelic (primarily Irish, but Scottish too) white spirit, usually about the 80-90% mark... and it burns, burns, burns.... nasty stuff, and thats coming from a Scotsman!

this thread will run red with downvotes

Ugh who gives a shit, really. People don't need a tally system to help them form an opinion on a thread. They can make their own. It's not like any of us has anything more important to do than to read a dumb thread.

Whiskey > rum

That said I enjoy the odd mojito. But generally my association with rum is drinking it mixed with coke when I was younger and then feeling nauseous. So I don't really go for it.

Same goes for the personal posts as well, dicknoses :p Doesn't hurt my feelings one bit!

I've had white Bacardi rum mixed with Code Red Mountain Dew. That was certainly an interesting drink. It smelled of almonds.

I can't stomach Rum Runners anymore they make me want to puke. All other forms of Rum are good in my book though...just can't handle that concoction

I'm going to make a new mixed drink. I'll call it "The Zergling" and drink it while I play SCII. I'll update later on how to make it.

Rum is fantastic but Bacardi can go to hell. If it was human, I'd punch it straight in the mouth and not feel one ounce of remorse.

Get me some of that Diplomatico. Also, Kraken is a nice dark rum so don't f*ck it, Higlac. Treat it like a fair maiden.

Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey. Old Fashions are all you will ever need.

But if you demand rum, I have a really simple rum recipe you can make. It's called Triple O. Orange juice, orange soda, and Bacardi O. Equal parts. Can add triple sec if you want. I made gallons of this during college and probably made hundreds of freshman throw up.

sorry bro, it's not the booze, it's you. alcohol can't make you angry, it's that the layers of inhibition are no longer compressing what is underneath. What comes to the surface is all you. It sounds like you have some repressed anger

Whiskey > rum
I tried to like whiskey, I really did. Tried all sorts of 'em in all the major origins, including a few that were highly-rated or expensive, but that smoky flavor just doesn't do it for me.
I'm still trying to make the perfect Mai Tai. I love rum, and the only liquor I frequent more is vodka.

Bad experiences ruin any alcohol for a long time; mine was from Midori and it lasted about 6 years.

EDIT: This is really starting to make me sound like a girl drink drunk >< I'm also a beer snob, does that help???

Yeah, I couldn't enjoy a nice cider for a good two years after the terrible moving-car-vomit incident of 2007.

If you're willing to give whiskey one more chance, you should try Jameson. Irish whiskey is distilled differently to Scotch, so it's not as smoky.

Try a Canadian blended whiskey like Canadian Club. It's very smooth

Used to enjoy rum a fair amount (admittedly only ever bought cheap commercial stuff because I'm, well, cheap), but I havent been able to touch it for about a year now.

In it's place I've simply just started trying all different kinds of beer, always fun to pick up something new every once in a while.

I think Laphroaig is Scotch. So it'd have the same smoky taste that MuToiD_Man doesn't like.
