Metallica thinks it's cool to sue game companies now... f*cking morons.

Alright, this is just stupid. That song has been out forever. It's doubtful the sales of the CD are even high enough to be hurt by this.

I really hope this bites them in the ass. Metallica has done nothing but piss me off with their legal antics. They should just f*ck off and die.

Hell, if anything they should be happy a whole new generation is listening to them. Ungrateful bastards.

I love Metallica but this is retarded. :|

They should continue working on their new album; Not this ffs.

"Our company paid a licensing fee to feature the track 'One' by Metallica in Guitar Hero III. We don't understand why Metallica would turn around and sue us, unless they've gone from insane to completely bats*** insane since 2001, but we're confident that the law and our contracts will be enough to have this thrown out."

lol

metallica fail.

Oh wow. Kudos.

Metallica can burn in hell, bloated old man's cash cow group that they are. They love cash and hate their fans.

edit: bah, damn you jimbo.

it's their fault they signed over publishing rights to the publisher of their records ..they dont own their songs ..as is the case of most musicians ..they just own the rights to the recording of their song ...so really Metallica probably has no case. But I can see why they would fight for this ..they dont see a dime or if they do it's not the entire amount. They really should fight music publishers but they wont because that would be shooting themselves in the foot ..they're as much corporate lackeys as anyone else so stfu metallica

Thanks Metallica, you just gave me the moral justification to download all your albums.

Metallica have gone Bats***, St Anger was a rubbish album.

St. Anger was  .

It's not like they didn't know it was going to be in a game.

That doesn't make sense at all. It's a cool game, I don't see why anyone would object to their songs being in it. If anything it simply increases awareness for their music, and might inspire more people to buy their album.

I can see why Metallica are doing it. Imagine you released a song only to see it turn up in some shitty videogame. You'd be a little bit pissed off.

I guess it depends how much the record company respects the artist. I'm sure some nicer record companies companies would ask the artist if they were OK with it first out of respect.

And these games wouldn't sell nearly as much without the more famous songs in them. So the game devs are sort of cashing in on something they had 0 part in creating.

Pfff, you guys. Obviously we buy into Guitar Hero for the free music!

It's not Red Octane's problem though, they PAID the record company for the right to use the music (I bet it wasn't cheap either). If the record company holds the rights to Metallica's music then tough shit, they'll have to deal with it. Many other bands out there I'm sure have had music put on the Guitar Hero games without giving their express permission, you don't hear of them complaining.

Ya, it's an artist's worst nightmare to have free advertising in a game series which has sold millions of copies worldwide, poor metallica.

You're right, Guitar Hero would suck if they didn't have good music...

I've never played guitar hero but if I'm understanding correctly the version of the songs are not the ones played by the band ..right? if so the recording company doesnt own the rights but rather the publishers (sometimes they're one in the same) ...anyways if that's the case Metallica should beat themselves up for signing a contract that gave away their publishing rights ...the company could use their music (or rather versions of their songs by studio musicians) to promote anything from cars to femenine hygenie products to old time revival sunday baptist churches. Their fault for signing away their property

less whining Metallica ..why havent you attacked the record companies for screwing so many musicians out of their work? Metallica as per usual you're attacking the wrong people: your fans

It would though like if HL2 didn't have Alyx...

Metallica can suck 40 ****ing dicks for all I care. Hopefully we won't have their shitty songs on guitar hero.

Ahhh, I guess they don't want their song on one of the biggest games to sell these days. I'd like to think it's an honor to have a song that I've played on a game selling millions of units.

Oh well! I say Red Octane wins the suit, then removes their song from the game.

They should stop making shit music if they want to sell albums.

ziiiiiiiiiiiiing

Having your song in that game wont take the place of someone purchasing it. Its not like they can throw the XBOX disc into a cd player and listen to it......

If anythign its promoting it.....so in closing...guitar hero = good, metallica = bad

Word. Oh well, at least DragonForce will be there, so I don't worry.

You're missing the point. It's nothing to do with how much the game sells.

It's similar to people putting tv shows/music videos on Youtube. You'd be saying "it's fine, it's free advertising". The only difference is that the record company got paid.

Yup.

y'all are dumb and can't read (or at least can't check sources :p). It's a big fat fake from dailygaming.net
