Best game I have played since the first Half Life. It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, which is good :D Some people complain the game is very dull, but I must disagree. It's a lot fun, even if 95% of the game takes place indoors (a great deal of the first Half Life also takes place indoors). Great fun. I highly recommend it.

Agree to a certain extent, what you say is true for about 80% of the game for me, the last 20% I felt the repetition hit me a lot harder and found the game less and less enjoyable.

Personally I think the game was good fun, I enjoyed it more than Far Cry at the very least.

One of the best games of all time for sure.

The enviroments were average, and it ran like shit for what it looked like on anything but high-end PC's. I know some folk like to turn this around by saying 'it looks great with everything turned up', but stencil shadows with such basic architecture shouldn't have been such a GPU hog.

Dead fun game though, really enjoyed it. Apart from that mother****er security guard. He's intended to be some kind of comic relief I suppose, but nothing he says is actually funny

Well the Office Space references got a few smirks out of me, especially the 'Memo' stickers.

Since when was General Games called "Post here if you loved FEAR!" (Ooh ooh! I rhymed!)

Geez... But yeah, it was a pretty fun game... multiplayer's passable though.

Aye, i managed to cross it off of my "games to complete list" the other day, played it through on Hard, was a good challenge, amazing graphics, amazing gameplay, intense storyline, loved every single second of it .. cannot wait for the sequel now :)

The most average game of 2005, and in my opinion, vastly overrated.

I agree. It was okay at best. Nothing really new (bullet time was doon in max payne). Wasn't scary at all either.

Now someone has to restore balance to the universe by making another "I HATE FEAR" topic.

FEAR was good IMHO. A few days ago I decided to move on in my second run through the game, but ended playing one scene over and over again (because it was fun).

Don't matter if it was nothing new, just matters if it is fun and how fun compared to other games.

Never really got into fear...played it..did feel average.

They definately could of made the effect's more rangeable for better performance on lower end PC's, It was quite subtle but there where alot of high quality effect's in use which is why it dragged so much on high setting's.

If you can play it on high though the gameplay texture's and effect's made up for the lack of interesting geometry in the level's, and the soft shadow effect's are just sechs.

The FEAR sequel(s) should be awesome too.

FEAR + a few more guns + some more quality AI + new environments + a few extra bits in gameplay = AWESOME

Agreed! 100%

it was awesome, except it was way too easy even on the hardest settings ...

Yeah i agree, would make a great game (imo) turn into a legendary game in its own right :D

Wrong. Psychonauts = best game in a long time.

FEAR was pretty good, but alot of it was just the combat... although the combat was rockin'.

I wish you'd shut up with that damned game :P

Also, how can he be wrong ? its a matter of opinion not fact :P

awesome game. the combat was so kick ass! one of the best fps ever.

I saw Psychonauts in action and barely surviving the atrocity of it's so-called graphics, I realized that the dude just slides on every surface making control a pain. The whole time the game seemed too psychedelic and disorienting, it just doesn't quite grip me into liking it :| Guess it's not my cup of tea...

But then again, before that I watched my friend play Shadow of the Collosus which is absolutely beautful (even up against "next gen" games) in both gameplay / graphics department.

D:

Fear is a terrible game. It's the least enjoyable FPS ive ever played. You walk around in offices, always encountering soldiers with machineguns. Now and then you encounter a big soldier with massive armour that cant move for shit, or a big ass robot from Robocop. But thats it.

The only thing that makes the gameplay different from Pac-Man is the graphics. Wich compared to other new games are ugly. The lighting is nice, but HL2 on max settings gives you the same thing.

Are you retarded? Even if you don't like FEAR, calling the gameplay as simple as Pac-Man is just dead wrong. The gameplay is actually quite a bit more complex than the average FPS. It has bullet time, a melee combat system, and enemies with great squad AI. After the snooze-fest that was Doom 3... FEAR was a refreshing change of pace. Now, as for the fully dynamic lighting/shadowing seen in FEAR, HL2 has nothing of the sort. It has static lightmaps and shadows that always come from the same direction. I don't really miss it in HL2 (especially in the outdoor environments)... but saying HL2 "gives you the same thing" is just a lie. The only big faults I can think of are the steep system requirements and the repetition. Other than that, it's a an action/horror FPS done right.

QFMFT !

As we talk scary games I'd recommend Alien Vs. Predator 1 and 2 :;D

Yeah i remember the first time i played AVP1 and 2 ... still need to complete them as i never really got into them but they scared the living crap out of me tbh.

However, FEAR does hinge a large amount of the combat on the bullet time. Which is a problem in itself. While the first few times going into bullet time are kinda cool soon it becomes boring. And fighting the n'th generic army bad guy clone thing in bullet time becomes real boring real fast.

The Melee combat felt like it was added at the last minute. There is no feasible use for it. Its too picky, hardly worth it for the most part. (The only one that was remotely useful was that sliding kick and even that was hit or miss most of the time. Oh and then theres the problem that you get minced before you can really do anything.

And the AI is not impressive. I somehow cannot be impressed by an AI that doesn't seem to understand the simple concept of hiding behind a corner and what to do in that situation. I mean, I spent the whole game jumping out of a corner, doing bullet time, shooting a few people and then running back to the corner. And not once, did I see someone attempt to charge round the corner. In fact, I didn't even see a grenade, and Half-Life 1 had that ability. In fact, in all honesty, Half-Life did a much better attempt at AI. Sure they may not have the "flank" option (And even then they managed to pull that off occasionally) but at least they managed to look and feel like a damn military unit complete with covering fire and grenades.
