I just ordered F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin online and I am expecting it tomorrow, but then I got the idea to buy the first one and replay it before playing the second, however I wasn't sure whether to get the games two expansions or not.

I notice on Wikipedia it states that the two expansions are not canon, so would I be better off just playing the first and second FEAR games or playing the non canon expansions too? I don't want to confuse myself with the plot.

I haven't played the FEAR expansions, but the original FEAR is a lot better than FEAR 2 imho, although time/expectations definitely factors into that. If anything I would suggest playing through FEAR (won't take you too long) before you play FEAR 2, the expansions aren't really a necessity to understand what's going on in the sequel.

The expansions are nothing to do with Monoliths F.E.A.R./F.E.A.R. 2 story arch, so don't bother, they are crap anyway.

I did play F.E.A.R once ages ago, but I've forgotten the storyline, I just remember various scares and firefights. I think I'll give the expansions a miss, Thanks for the replies.

Perseus Mandate was a complete failure.

I see why Monolith scrapped both expansions away from their main FEAR plot and claim they never existed.

Don't bother with the Expansions if you want them for the story. The only good thing about them is that they offer more of the same. Even then i'd only go for Extraction Point.

I do seem to be the only person on this forum that does give the expansions a chance but... if you can get them cheap (and seriously I got both of them for less than a fiver) the same basic fear combat is still enough of a reason to play through it at least once.

Also extraction point is at least decent.

Yeah, I was a bit harsh before, I enjoyed them both, and Extraction Point did have some better level design than the original game, but story wise, Extraction Point makes absolutely zero sense at all, and PM is basically a badly told side story to the original.

Both completely unnecessary story wise, so unless you want to play more for the same combat again, I'd steer clear and play the sequel, it's better than either of the expansions.

The expansions are horrifically bad.

For best story line experience, play the first, skip the expansions and go to fear 2.

I was thinking I might do that, and perhaps play the expansions after Project Origin.
