This game is all about single-player in any event - that's where the bulk of their efforts have been directed (as well they should - singleplayer > multiplayer).

I wouldn't worry too much, I've played Doom3 with a 6600GT, even though it didn't have it as one of the supported chipsets (but included 6800GT/XT, etc), Playing Doom3 was a wonderful occasion with UltrashadowII acceleration, and from what I've seen, FEAR will make good use of it

I would have thought that the recommended specs would be a lot higher to handle all of the crap going on in some of those wild gunfights, but since my PC meets or exceeds these, I should be very pleased with the results. Their engine must be seriously optimized! And here I was all worried I wouldn't be able to enjoy it to its fullest potential! Can't wait for the demo to see what it plays like!
