Besides, in my opinion, fable sold based on the hype and the promise of features it never delivered. I'm sure 70% of those people who bought the game are dissapointed in its medocrity. My brother is.

I think his point is, that in perspective its not such a great record. Another good example of this is a song which recently hit number one in the charts over here. You could say it did remarkably well to reach that spot, however in perspective its one of the least selling number one singles ever, and sold something like 20,000 units.

So many people say this. Fine after 1 year lets see which sells more. Halo 2 will probably sell more to begin with. However HL2 is going to be one of the greates games ever since the original.

Ok, but you are underestimating the popularity of Halo 2 and its multiplayer. Every single person with an xbox that I know is going to get halo 2, not a single person besides Dalamari and I(that I know IRL) are going to get half-life 2 legally.

I'm guessing that's not the figure he's pointing out. There are actually two figures there, the second (I think) being the number of units sold, which quite clearly shows pokemon outselling Fable.

First of all Halo 2 will be pirated also, that's always going to happen and a lot of people do buy into pirated game's. Half-Life 2 has far more protection over piracy (not particularly fool proof I'll admit, but it still has more protection than your average game, which will disuade a lot of people, especially when they have to log their details with STEAM). So saying a game will sell more copies because it'll be pirated less is just stupid, if anything Halo 2 will be pirated more.

The only reason Halo 2 will sell more copies than Half-Life 2 is because in general the console market is bigger than the PC game market now meaning Halo 2 will obviously be open to larger market. (especially when you need an internet connection and an account with STEAM in order to play HL2, that again may disuade people from buying it, but not many I'd imagine).

Personally I think Halo 2 will probably sell more copies than Half-Life 2 in the end, but that doesn't make it the better game.

Then again, both Half-Life 2 and Halo 2 will probably have their asses handed to them (in terms of sales of course) by GTA:San Andreas.
