I might be going to best buy later today. The two games i were planning to get were The sims 2(which i got) and fable, which i was planning to get eventually. So now im haveing a couple of second thoughts about the game. So, is Fable really worth buying?

Depends...it is fairly linear...but tons of fun. The game is made up of small zones, and it only takes 12 hours to beat. But I know people who have played it for 40 hours and havn't beat it, doing side quests and stuff. If you play it like that you will really have to go out of your way not to do the main quest. I think it was well worth my money, I beat it in about 12 hours and did very few side quest, going to go through again as an evil will-user.

Is it possible to do stuff and such without following the main story, like morrowind?

Sort of, but you unlock new areas of the game by doing the main quest.

Wow, it turned out a lot more linear than I would have thought.

Cool :D

You prefer linear games? I like open-ended games a lot more, Morrowind was a lot of fun and a good example of what RPGs should be like.

morrowind was so... fricken.... boring... there is a point where a game has to stop being open ended and start helping you along

on topic: i will hunt you down if all your dollars are not belong to peter molyneux

Helping you along? They told you what you need to do and where...if they did anymore you would be teleported to the area and given nav points....

Idunno, open ended is cool but I haven't really seen a game pull it off big time yet, they usually get kinda boring. I'm always up for a good, linear RPG.

why are you having second thoughts
ive had the game for a few days now and im completely satisfied
its unlike any rpg ive ever played
however, dont let the hype disappoint you because its not 'the greatest rpg of all time' IMO
alot of fun though, worth it for sure

I'm very glad I bought Fable, although I'd reccomend Burnout 3 over it by just a hair.

After all the praises about Fable, its interesting to see people don't like it much afterall. For all its claims and it sounds very linear indeed :(

Ah well

I bought Fable...and I'm having a blast. I don't know how far in I am...but I'm one of those people that does everything possible in a game. I'm going for a 100% complete game here....and that's gonna take a while. I've played 12 hours so far...and I'm finally advancing in the story again. This is one I definitely plan to play through again a couple times. I'm a pure warrior right now...next I'll make myself an assassin style guy. Gonna be good with my mage guy. I suggest you pick this up over Burnout 3.

I rented Burnout 3 and I had my fill but that's because I never got a chance to play multiplayer. My friends weren't interested in playing. SP got a little boring for me.

Yeah, I've been playing MP with mith my roomates. It's totally awesome.

EDIT: Does anyone notice that they seem to release good games for the XBOX in pairs? Last time it was Riddick and Full Spectrum Warrior, this time it was Burnout 3 and Fable. Hurts the checkbook! I wonder what's next?

Hmmm..so it seems like a lot of you like it/recommend it, ok ill get it, but im not going to bestbuy today afterall so ill have to wait. Thanks for all the help.

hehe - you don't have to like football to appreciate a game of this quality (we're talking the 'Half Life' of the sporting genre)

I can't stand American football - but have have enjoyed the sport in video game form :)

American football is pretty fun to play in real life, and can be fun to play in games just because of the extremely unrealistic passes and such...then 5 minutes later it is boring.

Save your money for Halo 2. Fable is linear and the whole good/evil doesn't impact on the story line at all. It's more of a gimmick. KOTOR did it a hell of a lot better.

Not necessarily bad, it still has some fun action value in it. There's a lot of sex, murder, and hack & slash action in Fable. But once its over, there isn't a reason to do it all over again. Halo 2 will bring more replay value.

Halo 2 and Halo 2 Collectors Edition :p

Fable did not live up to my (unrealistic) expectations.

That said, It's an amazing RPG. Nothing like MW, but, in my opinion, it's at the top of its end of the spectrum.

I'd definitly reccomend it.

I don't think so. In KOTOR all there really is to change is the ending. I like Hero development a lot in Fable...and the fact that the entire experience changes whether you're evil or not makes me wanna play it again (even though I have yet to finish it for the first time). There are tons of reasons I didn't like KOTOR though...so if you were a fan...maybe you shouldn't listen to me.

To tell you the truth, I'm not too much of an RPG buff. Kotor was interesting to me mainly because of the different characters and their story lines (instead of the same main character either with evil or good traits). The different experience change I've felt so far in Fable is that people cuss at me, opposed to people praising me. The action is pretty much hack & slash based, where there isn't much strategy. There isn't a need for healing magic, or a need for magic at all. Force push+mega slash attack will do; maybe with a hint of arrow shooting.

But whatever, different opinions for all.

so true but, Fable will be like Halo, over hyped and overated. Now XBox fanboys will say no other RPG is greater then Fable, just like they say with Haloe and the FPS.

thank you! damnit fable is amazing.. ~plays more~. If you can look past the hype and play it as if it came out of the blue, it is amazing! im sick of games being labeled as shit because they expected them to be the second coming of ****in christ.. if that is what you think prepare to hate half-life 2

What a complete load of rubbish :p

Actually I bought fable and it is amazing. People who say that they beat it in 7 hours of gameplay are either lieing or have zoomed through the game as fast as they could. There are lots of sidequests, lots of town to explore, and lots of different ways to go around, and you can be good or evil which has a dynamic influence on the way your charater looks. By the end of the game, my guy was like 7 ft tall and muscular

it is short for an rpg
even if you take your time
thats the only real issue i have with this game
other than that, its a blast! :monkee:

I haven't beaten it yet, but I did hear that it was pretty short. I'm having a blast with it, but it could have been so much better if it was longer. A more compelling story would have helped, too.

Fable is a great RPG, but Knights of the Old Republic is still better (Now THAT had a story!)

(EDIT) I remember an interview with Peter Molyneux (sp?) and he said that they won't make a Fable sequel, unless they can make it as different and great as the original. I'm sure it will be if they just make it longer, and add all the stuff they cut out of the original one, like female heroes and offspring.

I dobt BBB will make a sequal. Albion isn't quite *that* memorable.

Ahaaha your forgetting 2 monster things.. japan (xbox is the least popular console there and Fable is extremely well looked at there) and MONEY being backed by microsoft.. im sure ms wants them to make a sequel because the game SELLS because it's xbox's best rpg! so no doubt in my mind for xbox or xbox next a sequel or at least another rpg will come from ol' Peter
