As you can see in my sig i have an x800 pro ocd to an xt. As i'm sure you can imagine it generates a hell of alot of heat. So to combat this I bought a vantec tornado and put it in front of the card. This solved the problem of heat.

However the noise is terrible. I was aware that it was loud but its like a hair drier on full speed!! Now what i was wondering is if there is a way to switch the fan off (other than turning the computer off) when its not in use or not needed. Is there a switch device available? What would happen if i unplugged it from the psu when i dont want it on, is it safe to do this while the pc is running?? (sounds a bit stupid)

Thanks

Try one of these controllers.

Or you could buy a swtich from an electronics store and rig it up to the fan and on the case. ;)

Would installing a switch just be a case of cutting the black wire (i presume) stripping it and connecting it to the switch??

Well, you would create a circuit with some extra wire. You would take one wire out of the power molex to the switch and then loop the extra wire from the switch to the power molex. The switch would just open the circuit so it wouldn't turn on.
