If all you mods are so capitalist and Right Wing (Banning someone for expressing thier views which happened to be left wing), then why dont you allow a laissez faire style forums where the best threads vie for competition and it is a completely free market instead of ****ING CLOSING THEM!

Why is this for the attention of me exactly?

sorry man, i just couldnt think of the names of any other admins, its not always you.

What is it recently? Is this insane poster week or what?

What seems to be the problem?

Apparently we close and delete threads too often and we should open a forum that's dedicated to junk, spam and flame wars.

That gives the place a nice atmosphere.

I think that's what he meant...

Hey i never though ot opening a forum for flaming, that acutally would be a good idea. It wouldnt have any moderators so it would be lawless!

What exactly DO you want?

Open a completely lawless forum for flaming and stuff like that. It is moderated but only very slightly.

Ok, that's what you want now but what exactly were you requesting in your original post?

If they banned people who had left wing views we'd run out of forum posters mighty quick. :D

bigun, we have strict guidelines on closing, moving, deleting posts and banning people. The reason we do things the way we do is because we don't want certain types of people here because it will eventually make our forums about as civil as the war in Iraq. We're not going to have a flame forum because we don't allow flame wars in the forum, and it'd just generate a lot of spam. We're quite proud of the kind of community we have. I mean, this community is the only one in the world I know that would be able to have a very long discussion about aborition without it actually getting out of hand. We may get a lot of shit from other sites about the way we conduct things, but at the end of the day, it's the way we like it and we think/hope it's going well.

I mean, the admins here are actually quite good. They are not extremist piece of shit like the ones over at www.middle-earthonline.com\forums where you get banned for saying anything that they deem 'political' but strangely they allow pro-bush and pro-war threads to stay....

Interesting eh?

Anyways admins, I do have more respect for you than I let on - Just open that forums and all will be solved.

I suspect most members here do not want that. I know I don't since forums like that never allow anything intelligent to be said for any side of an argument. Everything in them just turns into a massive flame war that pisses off everyone and ends up causing problems that often spill over into other message boards on the site.

bigun, it's just not where we're going with the site. It won't happen.

i'd vote No for a flame forum. but i'd vote Yes for a 'current affairs/politics/world issues' forum.

I agree. Plus without mods support. :E

You would need like 5 mods watching it 24/7 to keep a "current affairs/politics/world issues forum" from turning into a flamehouse!!! :(

Yeah, I'd vote against the flame forum, but for the political forum if the mods have enough manpower to mod it. :)

I don't want a flame/lawless forum etc.. That's just too much, and I think the forum is good as it is now with the moderation etc.

However I think a "Weekly Thread" would be very good, to link to stuff etc that isn't really "big enough" to get its own thread etc, and you can mention stuff like if something good or bad happened to you today etc. It'd be locked when the pages exceed 20-30 pages and at 12 am each sunday night. Works in all other forums I've visited, and it really stops the "Hey check this out lmao" or "Got good grades" threads, and when you lock those you just say "Weekly. Locked."

Just my 2 cents.
:)

i like those kinda threads tbh. they're better than the iraq threads etc, and if they were all in one thread, it would be kinda hard to keep track of them, and discuss them. could just make the forum messier.

Nickzer! Why did you leave IRC last night! You didnt say your ICQ number/MSN addy...

I had a great time with you, I hope you had a great time too :)

(BTW, im not gay)

i think this thread should be closed and deleted :/

Crazyharij, thats a really good idea! we should do that. it would be kinda good because you could just comment on how thing are getting you down, or a funn thing that happened at school... the only problem is it might get locked eventually...

but in general, i would say mods own :thumns: i mean, its not like theyre doing anything wrong, or theyre strict like teachers... badger's proven that they can be a right laugh  . and anyway, i hardly ever see threads that i think "this thread didnt have to be closed". in fact, i have seen none that didnt have a valid reason for being closed. I mean, if your going to start a pointless thread you know its gonna be deleted!!

but can i ask a serios question to the mods... how many threads are actually closed? i mean, i never notice any threads dissapear and i was about to say that HL2 mods are good because they hardle ever close threads... but then again, i dont know that, do i?

How can a 'lawless' forum still be moderated slightly? Start making sense before you suggest things. It's a bad idea, because we don't want flaming or spamming on our forum anyway, let alone in a new forum section.

I'd say about 15-20 threads get closed/removed a day. About 75% of those threads get closed, the other 25% are actually physically removed.

Well, to be honest i think the closing thread thing has got a bit strict. Such as so called "spam" threads such as word association etc.. I dont see whats wrong with threads like that its fun ... most of the time and people enjoy it and technically you guys serve the communuity so you should allow that which people enjoy , if that makes sense :(. Also there is a matter of repeated threads Ive noticed that threads have been closed because they have been repeated but that happens to be the first one ive seen of it , i totally approve of this but well I dunno most repeated threads are crap anyway :P. Really i think that moderation should go as far as punishing those who flame or post explicit content or source code stuff.
I know not much of that actually makes sense and most of it is crap but I suppose your used to it from me :(

Everyone likes spam

I agree .

True enough, but where do you draw the line?

can i ask another question??? is it possible to make a thread (and i mean remotely possible- not just possible that someone would do it) that doesnt count tawards anyones post? its like no record stats games in C+C generals (its the only rts i know that does it) most games record your score (3 wins, 6 losses, 0 disconnects etc.) but some dont actually record your score.

if we could do that we could have a thread that is more like an irc discussion than anything else, and that would be fun!!

I dunno :P. Someone else answer him I dont like thinking

edit- thats a good idea suicide

You could just as well use IRC then :P. I know I know, timezone differences etc. It's a better option than a 'random thoughts' thread, which will degrade into a spam thread in no time. I don't like spam, it annoys me and clutters up the forums. Roar.

yeah, agreed. a lot of these extra forums that many people are talking about that lean more towards regular discussion are irc-ish. now, i've never been on the irc channel here, so i dunno. it just sounds that it'd be more congruent with that.

I've a crazy, related idea: instead of banning trolls/attention seekers, just make their threads invisible to everyone but them, and fake a load of views over time. That way we aren't bothered by them, and they get to think people are reading their shit.

And thats why I love it here!

This is the only gamming forum I'm a part of. Its almost the only forum I'm a part of.
I just love the fact that I don't have to sift through the countless pointless threads that NO ONE really wants to read.
