The traktor beam seen in the beginning of the e3 video where the physics were being demonstrated (shooting barrels etc)
wil NOT be in the final game, Gabe has stated this in e-mails, and i'm sure there is one where he says this in the 'info from valve thread'.
Note: the traktor beam is NOT to be confused with the manipulator gun, which is seen in the other vids (throws radiator at combine etc..)
and yes... they are different weapons!

just thought i would clear this up, as most people seem to also think it is the same gun :)
 
hmm. I bet it gets imported into the game within 20 minutes of the relese.

actually im pretty sure gabe has only said "it's a different weapon" when people ask about the two manipulators, and i'm fairly certain it will be an alien weapon which you get sometime during the game.

of course maybe my interpretation of "it's a different weapon" is all wrong, but to me that means it's in the game, its not the same weapon as the manipulator used in traptown....
 
Are you sure about this? I remember Gabe saying it was a separate gun but I don't ever remember him saying it just plain wasn't in the game because I've heard him say that everything seen in the demos will be in the game...

yeah, fair enough, my sources aren't 100% accurate as i'm only going on memory.
 
Ok I really don't get the difference between the two. Is it just the color of the beam? Seems to me they are both anti gravity guns that give movement control over an object to the user. Could someone tell me the difference? Maybe that one lets you drop the other lets you throw?
 
yeah i remember hearing about a month or 2 ago that the manipulator and the "giant pachinko machine"(the gun that moves objects with a blue beam) are different weapons, but i never remember hearing that the "giant pachinko machine" wouldnt be in the final game..

the difference between the 2 is, the manipulator(the one that picks stuff up) picks up things and shoots/flings them. the "giant pachinko machine"(the one that moves objects with a blue beam) just moves stuff around.

The giant pachinko machine is the thing on the wall with all the wooden pegs that the barrels fall through. Its a bell-curve probability model in actuality.

you fools, pachinko is a japanese game, the pegs on the wall are more like kerplunk. pachinko is slightly different. just cause that dumbass at E3 said "its pachinko!" doesnt mean it is. it resembles it, but its kerplunk
 
It doesnt matter what the games weapons are, u can make ur own including the tractor beam, hell, u could make the gun from the strider if u where really into it

and why did anyone mention pachinko ?!? thats got nothing to do with any gun had it?

its crap if they dont have the blue beam gun in the game. that looks fun
