Far Cry 2 tech movies.

What do I use to open an .flv file?

I havent seen the video but wtf do you need growing vegitation for? Seems like all those resources could be used a little smarter.

What if you're making an RTS where vegetation is resources. You could use this! What if you're making a huge RPG. You want the landscape to naturally change over time. Tree's to grow, fall, etc...

Sure, but Far Cry 2 is not an RTS and I simply cant see this engine being used for an RTS.

If you can't see it being an RTS, then thats why theres the RPG portion. This engine, like Source and UE3, were designed with other games in mind.

Plus Far Cry 2 seems to have a persistent world, so it makes sense to have the vegetation grow back. It'd suck to be halfway through the game and realize that 90% of all the trees and bushes are destroyed forever.

Wow that is cool as shit, but its very useless in this game.

Looks nice except few things:

1) Growing trees right before you eyes is very unrealistic and does not happen in real life. Sure trees grow back, but while you're away.
2) It used to be the health-pack, Then pressing M for medic, then progressive regenerating health system, and now we have to operate then patch ourselves in middle of fight? Hate it.
3) Didn't I hate S.T.A.L.K.E.R for being so large that one would wonder if any cabs are around, with 24hrs clock cycle which anyone who must play must be totally unemployed? FarCry2 is talking about 50 Miles radius. Sorry but I don't want to quit my job.
4) There used to be a little HUD (Map like) device on your screen which hints you which way you must go, Now we literally carry a map and compass? Damn!

Oh well, there always going to be the reviews. Let me not jump into hysterical conclusion.

Yeah, let's save the ecosystem of Africa, there will be NO! distruction to the local habitat in FarCry2.

Maybe the developers decided to speed it up so that, you know, it didn't take a year of video to convey the fact that the trees grow.

2) It used to be the health-pack, Then pressing M for medic, then progressive regenerating health system, and now we have to operate then patch ourselves in middle of fight? Hate it.
Oh well. Guess the game won't be for you then.

Shit, realism! I'm pretty sure that's one of the first signs of the Apocalypse.

Yeah, let's save the ecosystem of Africa, there will be NO! distruction to the local habitat in FarCry2.
That's not what I said at all.

So, good job.

OH! Do I really need to know trees grow back? And why they must grow back in front of me? While away in other places would be more appropriate for them to grow back. Don't you think?

Oh well. Guess the game won't be for you then.

And I said "I don't want to jump into conclusion". I guess you missed that?

This is what save games are for.

I don't know if you ever played STALKER, but I must remind you; despite Stalker (Save-Game) sucked; you will always be too far away from something, that's why a patch was launched to make the game Level-Entry shorter than original release.

Shit, realism! I'm pretty sure that's one of the first signs of the Apocalypse.

You know what would be a real apocalypse? Dying when you get shot and game is over, No save, no spawning, no health-pack, No restart mission, no uninstall re-install game, just like in real life. Operating on your wounded self with pliers, in the middle of a gunfight is just way passed realism.

That's not what I said at all.

Explain this then "Plus Far Cry 2 seems to have a persistent world, so it makes sense to have the vegetation grow back. It'd suck to be halfway through the game and realize that 90% of all the trees and bushes are destroyed forever".

So, good job.

Thanks. :P

Vegetation grows back quickly because its fully destructible and its a freeroam world, for example, you can burn down entire forests, but hopefully it will be toggleable so I can burn down entire gamearea and have it STAY burned down!>:o

They could grow back in front of you slowly, while you're away they could grow faster.. It would have been nice to see a world like Oblivions slowly change overtime.

I don't know if you ever played STALKER, but I must remind you; despite Stalker (Save-Game) sucked; you will always be too far away from something, that's why a patch was launched to make the game Level-Entry shorter than original release.
I loved stalker, and I had no problems with the save game system. And I don't see how the patches dumbed the game down.

because that and:

arn't the same and I don't understand where you were going with it.

Well the game is still trying to be fun, and apply realism. Plus who in the hell says you'll be operating on you're wounded self in the middle of a gunfight? Maybe after the gun fight? Maybe the challenge is staying alive through the gun fight so you can fix yourself up?

STALKER was dumbed down enough on release as it is anyway, would be hard to dumb it down with patches.

Most of the original team left GSC because they got mad at them for bending to THQs will too much.

Read about this in a magazine.

Looks like FC2s gonna be great.

I havent seen the video but wtf do you need growing vegitation for? Seems like all those resources could be used a little smarter.

Well it could of been used to great effect if the game was set in South America, then you could blow up illegal lumber milling operations, and stand in pride as you watch all the trees that you had saved, grow up.

Maybe there's mutants/abilities that make it important, like grow some sort of vines out of the ground that trap them etc.

Or maybe they want the vegetation to grow back so that 90% of the trees aren't permanently destroyed halfway through the game from all the combat, considering it's a persistent world.

Or, you know, you can not listen to me. That's cool too.

With any luck the Earth Liberation Front will license this engine for a serious monkeywrenching game. Screw those yellow death machines!!

LOL, in other words, trees grow when you're not looking. Sneaky bastards.

It's like the little tree is just standing there doing nothing when you look at it. Now you turn around, turn back around after a few seconds, the tree is huge, you're like "wtf" and the tree is like "ha!".

lol. ... Isn't that what trees do?

You can stare at a tree and I promise you, it will not grow, but as soon as you hit the showers or take a dump; it has already grown full three inches.

Try it, stare at a tree (Any tree, smaller the better) then, take a dump and you'll know.

Good Luck.

Watch these two clips:

Gamespot Far Cry 2 interview

Dev Diary 3 Healing Talk.

Now, we all know, that in any FPS, gun fights are always more of fantasy then real. The fact that, we heal ourselves when wounded and your opponents don't in SP, we don't die easily and your opponents do and therefore, can consume more hits and spawn; is far too much to be real but its our fantasy and we make it real. But, patching and operating on your wounded self while in gun fight surrounded by enemies? Is priceless.

Sometimes I wonder whether you know what it means when the words "tech" and "demo" are put beside each other.

[edit] Unless this is a really, really bad joke. If so, it's been dragged on far too long and any entertainment you've gotten out of it is far outshadowed by everyone else's annoyance.

Blah, Blah, Tech, blah, blah, Demo, blah, blah, annoyance.

Good point.

Your next upgrade should be your sense of humor. it probably needs new driver. It takes nothing for you to go BSOD.

This is a forum and everyone is entitled to an opinion; no matter how silly and annoying it may sound to you.

If you don't like my bad jokes ... next time ... Please, ignore me.

Now sit down. :P

Alright, I'm sorry Barney. BUT! To be fair, you came off as one of those people who continues to be a retard in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. You just took the joke a bit too far is all. (and then a bit farther after that >_>) Long story short, sorry :)

Alright, I'm sorry Stigmata. BUT! To be fair, you also came off as one of those people who continues to be a tight-ass in the face of overwhelming evidence to my humor. You just took my bad jokes a bit too hard is all. ( and then a bit harder after that >_>) Long story short, sorry your feeling was hurt :)

Now suck on a thumb and be cool.

No, RBBB = Rubber Bugger Baby Bumpers, you FOOL!
