I have reicently realized that in Ravenholm, when Father Grigory is throwing you your shotgun, he leaves his own gun on the flour of the ledge thing where he's standing and it glows like the other guns our ammo that you can pick up, and I'm wandering if any of you have figured out a way to acquire said gun before he picks it up again.
 
It's not a physobject. It doesn't interact with anything. Basically impossible.
 
I find your lack of faith disturbing... though, perhaps you are right. Or Perhaps you could jump to the ledge, not making it on of course, and hitting it close enough to the gun that you would pick it up, but the resulting fall would probably lead to your death.
 
Actually you can pick it up. Noclip > all. :D

Just noclip through the level before he spawns there. It looks like the other shotgun, and in your drop down bar it takes place of the Pulse Rifle. It might only be possible to get it after you put in Impulse 101, that's the only times I've tried it is with that cheat. Also, if you have on fast weapon switch you cannot select it. :D

Well, in the situation where Grigory's actually interacting with it, it is impossible! As per the scene as stated in the OP, I am correct!

Well it is actually a weapon, the entity name is weapon_annabelle. Some mods have it as weapon, and it is also for a SWEP for Garry's Mod. But it has no view model in HL2 so you can't see it on your arms. And the custom one available looks like shit.
 
Only Father Grigory is able to use it.

I's sure it's just a physobject and nothing else.
Just like alyx's gun.

well the thing is that i only have the xbox version and cannot use the noclp.

No it's not, don't misinform! Alyx's gun and Grigori's annabelle are both usable weapons in the game. They can't be obtained without cheats however they definitely aren't just phys objects.

with sv_cheats 1 enabled and then entering "give weapon_annabelle" you'll be able to use it. The annabelle uses the .357 magnum ammo for some reason and it also has 100% accuracy. So you can literally snipe with it and get an instant kill from ridiculous range, it's obviously not meant to be used.

Couldn't tell you much about the Alyx gun, it's been a long time, but I remember it doesn't have a proper model. It's single fire, until you activate secondary file & then it's automatic.

well i have one, but my siblings are always using it and it's too slow for games. and i use my dads laptop fofr forums, but he would never let me put games on it, cause then i'd use it too much, and i'd ask for one of my own, but my parents say "not untill you go to college"

as you can see, i have quite a predicement.
 
Today I gave a homeless guy a dollar, and he said in a voice startlingly similar to that of Grigori's, "Thank you, brother!"

It was worth the dollar.

I think he means at that point it's not a 'weapon object', it's a 'physobject', though I may be horribly, horribly wrong.

There's two ways you can see a weapon moving around in the world (e.g. not being carried by somebody) - if a prop has the weapon's model, or if it's actually a weapon entity. If the Annabelle is lying around where it can be interacted with by the player, it's just a prop - from what I've heard, the only way to get the weapon entity itself is by give'ing it at console or by getting Grigori killed without ending the game.
 
yeah...and i know Alyx's gun doesn't have a model.
But does Annabelle?

In Gmod, you can use both weapons.
Spawn Alyx with her gun, kill her, pick her weapon up. It shows as a magnum. (In Gmod anyway)

Spawn Grigory with Annabelle, kill him. There are a few tricks to obtaining his weapon, I can't remember how, but I remember using it and it was very accurate indeed.

Actually, it is possible to get without cheats. I recall a thread that was posted a while back where someone put an object to block the gate falling just before the mines. When the gate closed, the object rocketed out and killed Grigori. Annabelle (Which is a Winchester rifle by the way, not a shotgun) then flew out of his hands and over the gate, allowing the player to pick it up.

Whoever finds the thread first gets a cookie.

pc ver: use noclip & go right onup there!
xbox ver: use object surf whit something, mybe a cinder block:D

I merely ask for a simple peice of knowledge. Now, tell me what I wish or say nothing. And might I add, that you being a mod, would want to inform rather then deter a member?
 
Thank you. Now I knew that. I simply didn't remember it. You may not beleive me but I remember when one of the guys saying "Strider!" then one came and I killed it.

Yes, I know that's what you meant. I did not mean that you are somehow incompetent for not knowing every creature in the game by name, it's just... the strider is the biggest thing in the game. It's the deadliest, the coolest and most hyped thing in Half-life 2. Just struck me as odd is all.

Believe me, I was a mod on another forum, that's our main job, to mess with the newbies. ;)

hmm... I, my good sir, am most certainly not new with forums, I just suppose that all the mods I've incountered were too lazy or didn't care to mess with newbies.
 
But you really can't miss something so big, that shoots giant blue lasers out of it's...laser.

And you have to fight atleast 5 or something of those.
