My favourite chapter would be either Nova Prospekt, Follow Freeman, Our Benefactors or Dark energy. I can't really decide which.

The first time i got there, i thought "Heh, i'm gonna assault the stupid AI by throwing bags in their heads and they won't realize it", but after being beat down... well, i changed my mind.
And the return of Barney... godlike.

Nova Prospekt, although I've played it waaaaay too much now, so it's kind of lost it's novelty of going through as I've seen it all so many times, but nothing beats it in the game for atmosphere, environment, setting, gameplay and general awesomeness.

Well... I've always liked Follow Freeman and Highway 17. The latter part of Sandtraps is one of the best bits of the game.

OT, I find it funny that you've consistently misspelled "favourite".

I rather liked Route Canal the most. Metrocops are shweeby.

And if this includes Episode 1, then I'd go with the whole citadel bit.

Well, let's see, what chapter is my favorite? The chapter of my life when I discovered Half-Life 2. lol ok, seriously, I'd say the later chapters of the game; Nova Prospekt, Entanglement, Anti-Citizen One, Follow Freeman and the Citadel chapters. As for Ep.1, I like the entire game.

Follow Freeman definatly. That final battle in front of the citadel is awesheme.

"Follow Freeman!" because that was the most action I'd seen in the entire game.

As far as HL2 is concerned, I tend to think in terms of scenes/set pieces more than levels. So, right off the top of my head:

1. The intro to Point Insertion and the player's first sighting of the Citadel (epic moment for game design, long before the action begins).

2. Chopper battle and dam sequence in Water Hazard.

3. First meeting with Father Grigori in Ravenholm (amid awesome lighting).

4. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel after fleeing Ravenholm mines.

5. G-Man sighting through binoculars in Highway 17.

6. Bridge sequence in Highway 17.

7. Nighttime beach assault on Nova Prospekt (particularly storming bunkers and seeing antlions fly up over the wall to attack guard towers).

8. First entering the Nova Prospekt cell blocks (amid creepy music/distant fighting sound fx). The dankness and despair were palpable. You can almost smell the mould/stagnant water/urine.

9. Second turret battle in Entanglement.

10. Dog in action at the opening of Anticitizen One. (Well, anything with Dog in it...)

11. Courtyard battle in Anticitzen One (for portraying the grim desparation of urban warfare).

12. First Strider battle in Follow Freeman.

13. The acquisition of the blue grav gun and all that follows.

I'll say Water Hazard and Route Canal, because I was expecting much of the gameplay of HL2 to be based on the grav-gun but I was having so much fun even before I got the grav gun. So, yeah. Water Hazard and Route Canal.

Definatley the last chapter overall, love it when the music kicks in and you pickup the new grav gun!
The striders are also a highlight for me and the chase levels with the sirens going off in the background. Best atmosphere ever!

Dark Energy. That whole bit starting with the Elite's taking your Gravity Gun away like it's an extremely hazardous and dangerous weapon. Which it is.

And who could forget, "What's this? Oh, put it over there."
