ive seen tons of favorite weapon posts, so how bout this: what's your favorite chapter in hl2?

my favorite is either anti-citizen one or highway 17

It was the first time in the game i noticed the physics other than the throwing and swings at the start... coming across combine, getting the machinegun and shooting the explosive barrels made for some really cool ingame scenes, like out of a movie.
T'was on par with Water hazard :) They're both just as good.

Ravnholm. You get to see what D00M 3 would be like if VLAVe made it. Highway 17. You get to just take in C17. AND Flow Freeman. You get to see the uber power of doG and you hear Barny say "If you see Dr.Breen, tell him I said, **** YOU!" (that is what he said, look for the mp3 or wav(what ever it was) in Source Sounds gcf)

Probably Water Hazard- THE most fast paced action ive ever been subjected to on a computer, and that music just sealed it. Also the graphics just blew me away. I bought my first computer just to be able to play hl2 on max settings smooth, and it was all worth it after that.

True. The second lock (gates) made me cry, because it was so hard. :O
But Ravenholm is my favorite. Its believably scary, unlike Doom 3.

This has been done before, but yeah... it's been a while.

I would have to say Ravenholm, even though that's what everyone says. I haven't really played the game enough (only beaten it once), too much CS:S.

I liked the chapter where i wasnt playing HL2 and went on to the forums and I DIDN't see this thread.....but wait that didn't happen, and now, time to kill myself.

YES!

j/k

i like Anticitizen 1 because it was long and you went on a battle with the combine with the resistance and because *rambles on and on*

i don't know...the game just kicked so much ass that im having trouble picking out one chapter which i enjoyed more than others.
truth is, i had alot of fun playing each and every chapter.

I have four:

Route Kanal: Exiting, great scenery and super fun. Oh and the shanty town with the headcrab pods was superb.

Nova Prospekt: Commandeering the antlions and causing carnage for the combine was a great twist to the gameplay.

Follow Freeman: Rescuing Barney, assault on the Nexus, striders, dog at the citadel...all of it was superb.

Dark Energy: The reactor ascent.

yeah i found route kanal the most fun (except for the manhacks), i don't know why.

The Four chapter sequence - Point Insertion, Red Letter Day, Route Kanal and Water Hazard is probably the single best introductory section to a game I've ever played. The new world is introduced to you in the first, the new characters in the second, and the next two chapters have you moving ever quicker, running for your life as an increasingly wanted "anticitizen". My favorite chapter is probably Water Hazard, which by limiting you to the boat put you in some awesomely tense situations because there is no way to fight back against the helicopter. To be honest, I felt that the rest of the game never got back up that level of greatness: Black Mesa East was a nice comedown, but Ravenholm seemed too familiar, even with the Grav Gun. Highway 17 was alright, with some good exploration to be had - but there could have been more, and it is totally different to the sense of blind panic that pervaded Water Hazard. Sandtraps was fine, but jumping puzzles never make for terribly great chapters, bringing down the sublime later movements in HL2's unique spin on the beach assault.

Nova Prospekt was nice, atmospheric but nothing above and beyond. Same for entaglement which was just basically the same thing. Anticitizen One and Follow Freeman? They have some brilliant moments, but the squad management is too frustrating and made subsequent playthroughs a little tiresome. Our Benefactors and Dark Energy were a good conclusion, with some beautiful design work, but the gameplay began to fall off once the "ooh, total ownage weapon" shock had gone.

Now, if only Aftermath was to meld the scenery of those last two chapters with the tension of Half-Life 2's opening chapters...

Good summation, and it's pretty much identical to how I view it. Some mention should be made of the excellent strider fights in Follow Freeman, I think, although I would have preferred them to be even harder (although the final one really is quite grim) - in order to recreate that same kind of desperation and chaos you feel at the beginning of the game.

Sand Traps (I loved breaking into Nova Prospekt), Water Hazard (splashing is fun), and Anti-Citizen 1 (because of Barney! HE SWEARS AT BREEN... even though they sorta censored it in game.)

how did they censor it? i heard it perfectly.

Highway 17. :) Open space, and being able to cream Antlions with the front bumper of the Buggy.

Water hazerd... sooooooooooo fast :flame: ... and you get a nice cannon thing :sniper:

if it was censored, then how could you hear it? lol

Censored, so you couldn't fully hear it, I think the word **** automatically gives a game an 18 rating anyway, but in some cases you can't hear barney say it.

no i dont think so, max payne 2 had f*** a few times and was 15s here anyway.

Max Payne had a few ****s in that game?! I never realised! :p

I found the game rather consistent quality wise- I couldn't pick a firm favourite, although I found the opening chapters and the endgame period incredibly memorable. I mean, it's Half-Life 2! It's the stuff of legends!

Ah yes I remember that, perhaps though it's because Vlad said it in his funny russian accent...but it was written on the comic wasn't it. Hmm

it had it a few more times, towards the end when you wake up in the hospital downstairs when you're trapped in a room with a perp outside he calls you a "stupid f*ck" when you leave the room.

Ravenholm.
---
The meeting of the first poison headcrab.
"WHAT THE 'ELL IS THAT?? AAARGHH"

---
The meeting of the first Fast Zombie.
*falls of chair*

Need I say more?

I was actually trying to make a bad joke along the lines of Max Payne literally having an unnoticed **** in the second game. That's what happens when swear words start to drift away from their original meanings

In five years we'll be using "****" to describe everything from flowers to happy bunnies, mark my words...

I actually found Ravenholm a bit... clunky, but the likes of Grigori really livened some of the slower parts up (Valve are good at that, throwing so much into the mix that you're bound to encounter something you like), not to mention the flaming valves and the physics traps- although they could've done with a few more.

When the poison zombie first lumbered into view I'd been wondering if the poison headcrabs would be unique and be the only sort without a host-bound form- and then I heard this heavy breathing and this eager but-not-quite-human laughter...

yeah, odd how it got away with it.
