Post your favorite genre of music and discuss. Please don't be so general as to say "rock."

Vocal trance.

Stuff that has meaning in the vocals, backed up by a meaty baseline and soothing strings. This, for example. One of my all-time favourites.

i <3 u ... fav bands?
Senses Fail, Bleeding Through, Job for a Cowboy, Atreyu, Haste the Day, Killswitch Engage, From Autumn to Ashes, and Protest the Hero. Just a few good screamo bands.

nice i like most of those but not sure job for a cowboy is screamo...havnt listened to them but i heard they were grindcore

a few of my favorites are From First to Last, Chiodos, underOATH, AFI (not really screamo), A Skylit Drive, All that Remains, Bullet for My Valentine, Destroy the Runner, Escape the Fate, LoveHateHero, etc.

I like a lot of different electronic genres but I think Drum and Bass is my favorite.

Heavy Metal/hard rock

Dude, I live like...30 minutes from Auburn.

Electronic.

(I said that to be an ass since electronic music reaches into every genre.)

Cool, those are a few I didn't mention but enjoy a lot. I don't listen to a lot of Job for a Cowboy but from what I've heard, seems pretty hardcore to me. Although really Senses Fail isn't really screamo either, kinda hardcore but not THAT hardcore.

Probably prog rock and... whatever you'd classify NIN and Radiohead as.

Stoner Rock / Psychedelic / 70's Rock / Sludge are my favourites.

Anything with Big. Fat. Fuzzy riffs and longed tripped out passages. Space music, heavy but with clean vocals. Yeah, anything that talks to planets.

No, I don't do drugs.

Coldplay like rock with lots of piano, keyboard and drums
electronic rock like moby, air..
and "i dunno what genre is this" -- switchfoot, the afters, the fray kind of rock..

punk, pop punk. Third wave Ska

Rancid, Less Than Jake, Streetlight Manifesto, The Specials

Electronic - IDM

It's sort of an easy cop-out, because I don't think there's any cohesiveness to the genre. But yeah, standard fare here. Aphex Twin, Autechre, Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Amon Tobin, and so on... I find it personally to be the most interesting kind out there.

I'm not really stuck to a specific genre, my music taste gets more varied by the day :)

At the moment I'm loving 60s Garage Rock :)
The Sonics, The Monks, Blue Cheer etc ..

Many types of rock:

Blues/metal/progressive/alternative etc

Mostly rock and what's related (alt, progressive, post), but recently some more electronic stuff - industrial, trip-hop.

forgot, Indie rock owns all. switchfoot, incubus, red hot chilli peppers...

I don't have a specific favorite genre, my taste is pretty varied I would say:
hard rock, metal, electronic metal, symphonic metal, psychedelic rock, ambiental, trance, techno, D&B, symphonic and others...

All of the above <3

Do also enjoy some genres of Metal, Industrial, Progressive and Blues.

**** genre. I listen to what I like.

Sorry. Just ever since I last went to a record store and spent 20 minutes looking for Gantz Graf, only to find it under Trance, I've been really annoyed with genres.

Industrial
Industrial rock
Industrial metal
Progressive rock
Progressive metal
Alternative
Trance
DnB

All that good stuff

I listen to music in all genres, it doesn't matter to me just as long as it sounds good

Country is the one genre I will not touch however

Good Music is the genre I tend to listen to
I hate generalizing music, 'specially when they are horribly mislabeled by companies around the world

I'd say I dip [mostly] into ''post'' stuff, mainly the more metal edged varient such as Isis, jesu, Red Sparowes, etc, aswell as the flip-side of the post with Mogwai, Do Make Say Think, A Silver Mt./Godspeed You!... Anything that feels like a 'landscape of sound'; vocals are an added benefit but not essential.

But then electronica also, with Squarepusher right down to run-of-the-mill drum and bass, with BoC, Autechre, D. James and various others thrown into the mix. That's all one big jungle of oddities I don't try to generalize too much, though. Just... electronic music.

I've always been well into my hardcore/early emo stuff, too, with At the Drive-In taking the lead, and then with others like Fugazi, Far, Hot Water Music close behind and then some of the newer stuff like Thursday, Alexisonfire and Glassjaw following it up. Heavier hardcore, such as Botch, Municipal Waste - the thrashier/punkier generally dirtier side of hardcore, as such.

Lately I've been really into what people may call 'real' indie but I haven't the time to care about that. Wolf Parade have been constantly on, aswell as stuff like Sunset Rubdown, Frog Eyes and Swan Lake, all those bands whatshisface seems to conjure up in Canada.

Gah, I really don't know. Theres tons more - genres just aren't a boundary to me anymore. If it sounds good, I'll take it. Or listen to it, even.
