Favorite opening scenes to a movie?

Not saying anything about the rest of the movie, but the opening of Swordfish was awesome.

Dumb and Dumber.

"Thats a lovely accent, new jersey?"
"Austria"
"Austria! Well then, gidday mate, lets put another shrimp on the barby!"
"Let's not..."

Gladiator

Brazil

Vanilla Sky > Awful movie but the opening scene is brilliant

SWIII 20 minutes of full on sci-fi action...Especially the calmness of the first minute. Big giant capital ship. Camera moving in into shadows then picking up on 2 jedi-fighters. I almost crapped myself the first time

watch Scarlett Johanson in Ghostworld

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162346/

she really isnt all that stunning imho ..rather plain looking in fact

best opening scenes in a movie

Maltese Falcon, Beat the Devil, Blade Runner, Vertigo, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Rear Window, Raiders of the lost ark

but the consistantly best opening in a movie has to go to the James Bond franchise ..I cant think of a bad opening

I dont think she's something that special, but she's pretty good looking. I wouldnt kick her out of bed.

I liked the opening to the warriors. Just seeing all the gangs going to the meeting. Then there's the line "I bet no ones even gonna show up" and BAM, 60,00 odd people are there at the meeting.

SW: A New Hope.

Rebels preparing for assault = wingrasm.

^^ Shutup...you have no idea what you're talking about...LOL jk, what's up DAAAVEE?!?!

Anyways, a good opening to a movie is...you guessed it Akira..the music is extremely simple but has a powerful effect. The huge drum beats at the start gives you a "you're doomed and there's not a damn thing you can do about it" feeling.

I've always loved the opening of Grosse Point Blank with the guy on the bike and the music just really sets the scene.

Definetly Star Wars Episode III

Goldeneye was good too. That's all I can think of right now, but when I first saw this thread, SW: Episode III was my first choice

The opening shot to Serenity. It's all done without any camera cuts, and has some fast semi-witty talking, I liked it. It's the only one that comes to mind right now.

Lost in Translation, definently. Murray is hawt too.

Another good opening, Fight Club.

I definitely would have said that if it wasn't at least 15 minutes into the movie. :D Although it does come after the title screen.

To this day the opening scene from Star Wars IV stands out most to me. I still get chills as they show the space ships come into view on the top of the screen.
