What are some of your favorite chapters or scenes in Half Life 2 and why?

Mine personally is Highway 17 beacause I like the whole open space and driving experience, also to check the houses on the sides of the road just to see whats in them. A scene i really enjoy is when you come straight out of the mines of Ravenholm. Its the music that I enjoy and the sense of being free from the zombie infested town.

I LIKE ALL OF THEM

edit: except the escort mission at the end episode 1 and the antlion caves

What the hell is this, twenty questions?

They get a lot of hate, but I've got a definite thing for the canals section (halfway through Route Kanal through to the end of Water Hazard). There's something about the particular setting; the time of day, the soft orange light, the toppling chimney, the carnage you leave in your wake. I also really like the lead-up to the Nova Prospekt chapter, because although some of the fighting along the beach was a bit dull, there's a beautiful scenario in a bunker complex lit only by flares and the sparks of manhacks, and the fight up the cliff is a lot of fun. My single favourite set-piece is the huge storage bay right at the end of Anticitizen One, with the cargo lift to the upper levels.

The scene from E3 2003 where you're fighting in the streets alongside rebels, working your way to the barricade. It was ****ing awesome in the E3 video, and it is really a rush playing it in the game, especially with that breakbeat type music (I'm so glad they kept it in that scene for the final game)

The Canals, Ravenholm and Highway 17, most disliked part is the introduction of the Gravity Gun with d0g (even though I like d0g) when you already know how to use the thing it can get pretty tedious having to wait for the next chapter.

Any part of the game where there is a gman present. That shit makes my skin crawl, but I love it.

Ya the g-man scene in episode 2 was epic. The first encounter in episode 2 with an advisor was pretty sweet too. In half-life 2, id have to say near the end when you have to take out 3-4 striders while being shot by soldiers from all directions. Felt like I was gordon freeman

Hmm.

The whole coast section of Highway 17/Sandtraps/Nova Prospekt etc. is perhaps the part that I always remember most fondly for some reason; all those areas along the way in which you get to explore the abandoned, decaying world left behind by the Combine. Everything is so serene and lonely, and almost a little chilling, yet somehow very peaceful. The empty houses and long abandoned Resistance hideouts have a very sombre mood to them.

Same applies to Water Hazard and certain parts of Route Kanal. The parts I tend to like most are the ones with outdoor, explorational aspects, rather than the long sequences of corridors and gunning down Combine. (Yeah, I thought Episode 2 was great for that reason; although the world generally seemed too "healthy" in that game, lacking the muted tone of HL2).

Not to say that gunning down tons of Combine isn't fun, of course :p Except when it's for about 2 hours using nothing but the blue gravity gun; am I the only who thinks those parts became extremely tedious extremely quickly?

I would have to say that the tour through the Citadel in the suspended pod was pretty atmospheric, especially when you first see the stalkers and crab synths.

And from episode 2, when you arrive at the old outpost with the radio tower and fight off the hunters. The one behind the door makes a noise that to me sounds like a laugh. Like an evil cackle or something.

One of my favorite scenes is in New Little Odessa right after the Gunship battle. The music and overall atmosphere of the characters is great.

Highway 17 is one of my favorite parts in any video game. It's refreshing after having to go through Ravenholm. The somber, lonely feeling is pulled off almost perfectly.

I love Anticitizen One. It's so cool to see how what you did during Nova Prospekt affected the rest of the City. Backtracking through the areas you went through at the beginning is awesome because you can tell how they've changed.

Also, I just love that creepy TV with GMan on it. It's just so out-of-place and freaky.
