What's your favourite music from a film?
For me defenatly the music from The Matrix Reloaded.

The music in Aliens where the marines are trapped in the hive and Riply takes the APC to rescue them.

Well, I'd have to differentiate between movie "soundtracks" and movie "scores."

My favorite score would have to be the one from Sneakers or maybe American Beauty.

My favorite soundtrack would probably be the stuff in Rushmore or maybe Royal Tennenbaums.

I like a lot of score music, so this is tough.. but I'm gonna have to give it to Gladiator.

I'm not big into soundtracks.

What do you mean by "scores".

A movie score is music written specifically for the movie. Like the music in Star Wars.

A movie soundtrack is generally pre-existing music just chosen by the director and used in the movie. Like the music in Pulp Fiction.

Probably Edward Scissorhands score-wise (thankyou to TDE for introducing me to the magic of Danny Elfman), as for soundtracks I don't have a clue, I remember thinking that the Queen of the Damned soundtrack was pretty cool.

Score...Beverly Hills Cop II!
Soundtrack? ...SPACE JAM!!!

Score:
Donnie Darko
Spaceballs
Lethal Weapon
Terminator
The Matrix
Alien & Aliens
Star Wars

Soundtrack:
Snatch

Score: Matrix, Gladiator, Equilibrium, Star Wars

Soundtrack: anything by Tarantino

Jurrasic Park, Forrest Gump

And I just forgot one, blarg!!!!!!!

I love Jerry Goldsmith's work on Planet of the Apes and the first Alien movie (remember the opening credits?). Both are very bizarre, unsettling, experimental scores. They work perfectly, and they added so much to the material. Brilliant stuff.

The Last of the Mohicans and Terminator 2.

Lord of the Rings trilogy, pretty much any bit of it.

I don't understand why poeple like listening to movie scores. The music is there exclusively to complement the picture without the picture it is meaningless.

Anyway best score would have to be Chinatown or Godfather 1

Best soundtrack High Fidelity or Oh Brother, Where Art Thou

LOTR, Gladiator, Pirates of the Carribean and Jurassic Part 1 soundtracks... wooow. :)

You can remember the film by just listening to the music :)

It seems you never listened to Film scores by Hans Zimmer or John Williams. It's simply beautiful music - you can listen to it and relax, or just enjoy it like you would enjoy an opera by Mozart or Bach ;)

That doesn't alter the validity of my point. I wasn't saying movie scores aren't good music, they are, I'm sure. But movie scores aren't meant to stand on their own like classical compositions are.
Anyway to each his own

Grosse Point Blank
Shawshank Redemption
Road to Perdition
Bourne Supremacy
American Beauty
Gladiator
The Crow (Score)

Clockwork Orange, beeeyatches! :p

Best score goes to Ed Scissorhands though, of course.

American Beauty

and pretty much any other song by Thomas Newman

Star Wars. 'Cantina Band' makes me mad though :|

crimson tide,
enemy of the state,
shawshank,
house on haunted hill,
pirates of the carribbean,
vanilla sky,
event horizon,
fight club,
28 days later,
apollo 13,
unbreakable,
kill bill,
man on fire,
collateral,
mulholland drive

The Godfather waltz, whenever you hear that, you know some serious shit is going down.

Score:
Donnie Darko
Any John Williams
Gladiator
Pirates of the Carribean (the main score sound strangely like the one from Gladiator)
You could also include South Park: The Movie here :p

Soundtrack:
Anything from Tarantino (Although Jackie Brown is weak. As are some tracks from the two Kill Bills)
Shaun of the Dead
The Blues Brothers
Snatch
