Favourite Music In A Game

Following up on the "Favourite In-Game Cutscene" I thought I'd create this little post.

So what game had the best in game music, music that really set the mood?

My vote goes for Perfect Dark on the N64, that was some nice BG music that got me pumping.

I absolutely ADORE the Discworld Noir music. Absolute class. I also love the music produced for Quake II. Neeeeewww nananana neeeeeeeeee.

D3's intro music is cool. FIFA's often got some decent tunes going for it. For how old it is, wing commanders music is top drawer.

Chrono Trigger, TO: Luct, FF7 - classic stuff.

In the newer stuff, I'd say the freedom fighter theme.

Metroid Prime has imo the best music of this console generation.

I'm also fond of the Super Smash Bros Melee soundtrack, Final Fantasy VIII, Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2, F-Zero, Mega Man. Oh the list can go on and on really, there's alot of videogame music that I love.

Doom 3. Purely because there's hardly a soundtrack there. Very effective.

Otherwise, Beyond Good and Evil. I love that rap song in the bar at Hillys, as well as the Reggae at mamago's. Sheer brilliance on the composer's part.

A toss-up between MGS2 and Metroid Prime. Prime perfectly nailed everything, by Henry Gregson Williams (Enemy of the State, The Rock) did an astounding job on MGS2 too. I can't decide amongst perfection.

Lucasarts' themes tend to stick in my skull and come up at the weirdest moments...so do the Gabriel Knight tunes. The Monkey Island theme is perhaps the absolute favorite.

IMO, Halo has by far the best original soundtrack for a video game. In close second are:

Perfect Dark
Battlefield 1942 (Two songs, but they were great nonetheless )
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Super Mario Sunshine, I just love the music in that game for some reason...

Seriously though the Tetris music was the best. I loved all of the music in Chrono Trigger and the music in Freedom Fighters.

I have the piano sheet music for Tetris and a lot of the Mario songs. All the older marios songs like from SMB 3 and older.
