I was in one of my local game stores earlier to day were they had empty copies of the windows version of fear 2 for pre order. I looked at the back of the boxes and it mentioned the game uses steamworks and thus requires steam to run.

It didn't mention any other DRM and securom is never mentioned on boxes but i it uses steam I finid it unlikely it will use anything else.

Looks like steam is going places. Empire total war, dawn of war 2 and now this :)

GOTCHA!!!! Look everyone, I caught him red handed!

but seriously, steam is a GIANT and it's only getting bigger. Im sure other software distribution programs will show up but we can expect steam to be the proverbial mitochondria of the gaming world.

"Activate a Steam Product"

presumeubly non-steam bought versions of the game come bundled with steam and during installation one has to active it.

Isn't the game being sold over D2D? Hows that gonna work?

I know that Defense Grid can be bought from D2D and it'll politely ask you to use/install steam to run the game. It seems a bit redundant but it keeps the options open for payment. D2D customers are happy and can buy the game from D2D instead of the steam store. The game will install into your steam folder or install steam if you don't have it and activate the game as mentioned.

If this is true, ****ing sweet! I like buying from steam but still love my boxes. This way i win ether way.

Awesome, but when will we be able to preorder on steam?

I sall might preorderfrom steam if theres a decent discount or a offer.

This.

I only buy Valve products on Steam (because they have the pre-load function) and the same with hard to get games.

But it sounds good that monolith has settled with unlimited installs through Steam instead of DRM/Securom

Great news if it's only using Steam as the DRM. Although i think i'll pass on buying on Steam untill Valve sorts out the pricing on it. I've been ripped off by Steam too many times now :(

Only because you're Korean.

I ****ing love steam.
