FEAR...is boring.

Although F.E.A.R. was ridiculously easy- I played through on Extreme Difficulty in what must have been like 7 hours. I probably died 3 times.

You are echelons above my playing ability then, but I did play it on second to highest difficulty I believe and I found it rather challenging.

Hell I found it challenging on Normal. I don't know what the hell all of you are talking about.

I like Doom 3 better than FEAR just because it runs better. :(

Oh and, AvP2(Marine campaign) & Cliver Barker's Undying own both of these games in terms of scariness.

The game is difficult, I'm now finding myself succumbing to being outnumbered, out smarted and outflanked.

Plus the fact stealth ninjas are always an absolute bastard.

To be honest, if you're not willing to play a game using a trial and error tactic, you're going to hate F.E.A.R.

Well, not trial and error strictly speaking, but the point is you have to go back many a time.

But the advantage with F.E.A.R is that yes, the A.I reacts different each time so it takes away the monotomy of restarting many a time.

My main gripe with it is that it rarely becomes a great deal more diverse.

I found the
ninjas
stupidly easy. Shotgun+SloMo

But what I hated was when the AI does the stupidest things like jumping over their cover at you. I didn't get outflanked much at all aswell. When I didn't camp in an unflankable area I generaly just went into 'Seek and Destroy' mode.

The A.I. will really astound you without Slowmotion (well, the ninjas you can do with :p)

doom3, a few small jumps here and there. the no flashlight while having a gun out made it twice as fun/scary when fighting.
f.e.a.r, a bit creepy, lots of 'uh, should i check that sound out or not ?' moments.

want to know a scary game ? alien vs. predator; first time i played it it was a ripped copy and i went into mp and chose marines, so i'm on this map and there are bots (aliens/pred) running around and the aliens scared me so much because there is nowhere you could hide, they could from the top, bottom, the side, EVERYWHERE.
Yeah, the only problem is I've beaten it 4 times in 1999.

You can't judge a game when you haven't finished it.
ha ha there's these people I go to school with who pretend to be all tough by saying that Doom 3 didn’t scare them, if it scares adults shitless there's no way it won't scare a fourteen year old unless they’ve been in a war-like situation.

Or maybe they just don't get scared by it? People are different, some people like to fight others don't, some people like sports others don't, etc.

Scary and pop-out scary are two different things. I can understand not being scared by, say, creepy demons with little black eyes, but being scared by something that pops out is a GOOD thing, because it shows how good your reflexes are. Put yourself in a real situation. Guy suddenly pulls out a knife and tries to stab you. You WANT that pop-out holy-shit jump-out-of-the-way reflex, it will save your life.

Then the look-for-the-esc-button-before-getting-knifed-in-the-face reflex starts up.

EDIT: QUICKSAVE!

Pros of FEAR
------------------------------
Excellent AI (Flanking, Cover, Intelligence) I love it when you kill one or two of the squadmates, and the other one has a convo over the radio "I got one down".

Excellent Gun Fights, jesus christ the desctruction and slow motion...just totally intense. Makes me want a semi realistic tarintino style film version of this game.

Graphics are very nice, detailed textures makes this a great game!

Excellent FEAR factor, I mean im scared shitless in this game, i dont know how many times i said "I dont wanna go swimming in that water :("

Pros of Doom
-------------------------------
Excellent Graphics, I would have to say they might be better than FEAR is some respects, but it is mostly even.

Excellent fast pased action, and very nice monsters

Good length, and very nice integration of vehicles/moving equipment

GREAT LEVEL DESIGN, all the hellish walls while you enter hell. Just EXCELLENT, pure brilliance.

Well my verdict, play both. Download Both, Buy Both. Doesnt matter to me, just play them both and have a good time. They offer different experiences, and have different feel.

I personally wasnt scared one bit at Doom, but I am shitting my pants playing FEAR. Its all taste..

KKTHXBYE!

I don't get it. The game isn't even SUPPOST to be scary a lot of the time, infact there are only some small intermissions when they actually try to scare you. It's not enough to make a whole video out of. BTW, are you Leo or BFinch067?

I played some gunfights a few times for the fun of them, even if I beat them the first time :)

There weren't as many scares as in Doom 3. Doom 3 had "boo!" scares BTW. They are indeed good to scare you. I prefer this "freak-out" type of fear, however. No sudden, loud sounds; everything is calm, yet you are freaked out. I remember the times I got most scared were when the girl was crouching towards me ape-style (no screams etc.) and once I jumped when I saw something standing in the doorway. Just standing there, yet I was unexpecting it and I got scared by it's calmness it seems.

people only love FEAR because no good games came out this year.

I've seen there body language, there lying I tells ya! I seriously don't think they weren’t scared even mildly at, at least one point in the game anyway. I'd love to know what would of made my friends become so unimmersed or brave seen as I have far much more confidence then them (arrogance?) and the game did manage to scare the shit out of me, unless I played all day in which case it sucked but still scared me at the start.
Confidence = bravery

No, im not, but ive seen their videos. The thought of my video is to create a memory of my first time playing FEAR, and i wasnt going to release it on the net, it was for my own use...but i decided to show people who want to see it anyway :)

People are different, F.E.A.R is the kind of scare that is my worst...

Doom was scary at first but I got bored and sick of it then.

DooM wasn't scary. Well, maybe it was for perhaps a couple of minutes at the beginning of the game?

F.E.A.R. wasn't really scary either, but the action sequences were good.

AvP 1 & 2 are scary as the marine, The Silent Hill's are pretty scary (Silent Hill 1 scared me the most) and System Shock 2 is pretty scary to begin with.

Meh... DooM sucked IMO, shooters where you walk around and... shoot all day without reason or motivation isn't fun. I remember finding a big spoiler in DooM 3, just shrugged and quit the game. F.E.A.R. coulda had a better storyline, but overall it was more then the avertage game in my eyes.
It tried something different from monsters just jumping at you from corner to corner. That, and it wasn't based to scare you as much as DooM 3 was, it was a little mix of both action and scary genres.

F.E.A.R is shit loads better than Doom 3, you must have a negative IQ if you don't see that. To me D3 was a 20 hour ****ing tech demo...Fear actually had some meat to it. The story was muddled until the end where then it all made sense and things started to tick in your mind saying "Ohhh that random talk actually meant something" (plus it had a nice plot twist). The scares were ok, Alma's "monkey crawl" in the vent gave me a jolt. Fire fights are the best though, nothing...not even COD 2 can match the intensity of these fights. I swear that I was actually yelling out **** and shit a heap of the time.

Only bad things were the office levels (boring) and the length of it...

He speaks the truth!

He is the Chosen One!

Got FEAR for xmas.
It was one of those games that I really didn't want to bother with after trying the demo that ran at like 3 fps.

but

It ran fine on max everything, and... I enjoyed it.

Boring? The level design is excellent, those who think it's boring have probably never been inside a corporate building or industrial complex of any sort, you need some life experience to compare it to or you won't be able to identify with the atmosphere of being in that environment - it was spot-on.

The scary bits were pretty creepy, in a chill down your back kind of way, the opposite of Doom3's reflex jump-mongering, but 2 different and equally effective ways of scaring the bejebus out of you all the same.

The narrative and voice acting is pretty slick too, as is the AI. Encounters with hostiles is strangely sparse though, half the game seemed to be empty.

Gripes include a lack of weapon variety, poor sound sometimes means you can't hear a phone or laptop message over the ambient noise, far too easy, especially with that slo-mo cheat mode, and in-game advertising just sucks the fat one.
But that's all petty stuff when you weigh it up against the real meat of the game.

and hallelujah, everything was the right scale - no wash basins the size of baths, no corridors 30 foot wide, no vehicles for midgets - it is all correct.

And having a body you can see and that casts shadows too means means a lot. If I had a hat, i'd dof it to the devs attention to detail.

This is a good game, and worth playing through to one of the best endings i've seen in a long time. Boring it ain't.

Actually, those who think its boring probably think that because...its boring? See, I neve saw that coming.

What CHEATS MAKE THE GAME EASY! OMG, SOMEONE CALL THE CARE POLICE!!!!!!!!!!

i was at a LAN party and played some FEAR and i was so scared and screamed, the other guys turned around and thought i was crazy, i was like "stfu" and they said it wasnt scary and they tryed it out and yea they wasnt that scared but i saw that they where pretty tense when they played.

GREAT game...ive never feelt so sick and the urge to scream and run out of the room when i play a game...it really captures your brain!

Yeah FEAR is pretty damned overrated.

I found the ending 'twist' to be super predictable as well. Which is why I always say don't bother with a twist if it's going to be obvious.

lol, well you cared enough to waste a few seconds of your life posting that comment. But Nil point for sarcastic integrity - get some practice.

I was talking about the slo-mo 'feature' in the game that makes everything easy to kill. Looks pretty but is just a glorified cheat key.

Cheats are something that make the game easier(mostly). Slo-mo is a nessisary feature that is almost inpossible to play without.

Interesting statement.

Necessary it certainly is not. You said yourself slo-mo + shotgun is just too easy, so try playing through without using it like some of us have - it makes the game much more interesting

I tryed without slo-mo. I got owned so much iot wasn't funny. ;(
