Anyone have it? I used to be completely fine with traveling on highways as i trust my dad 100% with driving. I used to love when he would speed up and pass all the cars, i wanted to go faster and faster. However, after spending some time at 4chan, specifically /gif/ and /b/, i have built up a fear of highways. Ive seen countless of GIF pics of accidents that happen within split seconds, with no chance at all for anyone to react. Some of the videos are cams attached to the cars, everything looks fine but then in a split second the tire of a truck explodes and the entire thing turns and BAM collision at 200kmh before you even realize it. Then the countless pictures of the severed bodies, smashed sculls with brain matter everywhere. Gifs of people getting flung out of their cars and been rolled over by trucks that literally EXPLODE their bodies and heads into liquid shit. The scary thing is that it happens SO FAST, one second you are fine, the next second your stomach explodes under the pressure of a truck.

Then i think back how i used to lay on my back on both back seats in the car, i cant do that anymore because i keep replaying different crash scenarios in my head, of a car hitting from behind and my body getting smashed and then dragged on the asphalt etc etc, constantly seeing it before my eyes.

Anyone else have this fear? Its to the point where i refuse to travel long distances on highways, or even on normal roads.

I have an insane fear of being around automobiles, and especially when driving along highways.

Thanks for posting the graphic descriptions of things I hope never to see.

Well at least if you splatter it'll be quick.

I have a fear. Although I don't think I'd call it a fear exactly. I often think about the fact that I could quite easily be hit by a bus. The buses here are big utilitarian metal boxes, often driven by mad men.
I suppose I have a sense that it's just terribly unfair that I could be killed by one of these men. It almost happened the other day. I wasn't paying attention and I stood too close to the edge of the curb as a bus pulled over to drop people off. I turned and moved back just as it passed and it skimmed my arm instead of breaking my nose.

I've seen a lot of gore in the last 12 months. I find it upsetting, but just like a car crash lol I can't look away.

Haven't you seen all those buses just coming out of nowhere and slamming into people in movies?

That cliche is there for a reason!

Having an aversion to a shitload of metal travelling at very high speeds is perfectly normal. But don't expect to go out very often.

You know you're a lot more likely to be in a car accident than... oh... never mind!

Just drive as fast as everyone else, and you'll be fine. It's like a dance.

I love driving on moterway it's so relaxing. It's the only time i can sit back and drive with my knees.

When will people finally see?

I've been to 4-chan once... just once.

It really was just once. It's a terrible place.

There's very few areas in my life where I have supreme willpower. My willpower to never visit 4-chan again is one of those.

I visited 4chan twice, the second time because I had no idea what the hell I had seen the first time. The second time didn't help.

To everyone in this thread,

When you say '4-chan', do you actually mean '/b/', or are you just a very sensitive soul?

Sincerely,
A Regular User

I'm so sensitive, they use me to calibrate electronics.

I stopped going on 4-chan. I would constantly stay up till 4am just surfing /b/. Plus it makes me want to look at porn. People always posting sexy, naked emo/goth chicks. ****! I can't fit anymore in my HDD!

Now speaking about highways. I have a fear of crossing them. I only go on highways when I'm in a vehicle. Don't know about you guys.

How could you possibly stop? Its impossible!! Its just THERE, you MUST REFRESH PAGE..MUST..MORE..PORN..MUST...REFRESH

its been down for 2 days now and im starting to go insane

I actually got myself banned by asking people to post CP when an admin was online. So that helped. I got sick and tired of going into work with only 2-3 hours of sleep. Sometimes none!

But now i've moved and I have a new ip. So i've been fighting with myself.

I actually have a sneaky suspicion that a girl I knew posted naked pictures of one of her girlfriends on /b/ in revenge for screwing her bf.

Yes Sulk, they mean /b/, because apparently they're not aware of the other forums.

Transfer some of that willpower into going for long walks, bro.

They're by far the safest kind of roads you can travel on, so what's to be afraid of?

All the traffic is heading in the same direction. The road is almost entirely straight. There are no junctions or other hazards to contend with. All you have to do is travel at a respectable speed in the correct lane and keep your distance from other traffic (to your side as well as in front and behind), pay attention to what's happening as far ahead as the eye can see and it's virtually impossible to have an accident.

yeah righ! untill a big ****ing metal buss driven by a madmen appears out of NOWHERE and rams your car full force, making you fly out of the front window BURNING while you see your baby implode under a bus. Yes, transportation sucks.

Oddly, I find myself much more comfortable highway driving than trying to find my way around regular ol' streets. I'm at great risk of taking shit for this, but I find highway driving to be one of those rare things that is so quintessentially American. It's meditative and implies either separation from, or [return to] home, and the changes one might be making in life that come along with the travel.

I do realize that highways aren't unique to the United States, but I have a certain (out of character, as I'm far from a patriot/nationalist) love for the U.S. highway system. Hours on the turnpike just letting your mind drift from thoughts of family, loved ones, your love life or whatever it may be as the radio drones on and the wind blows in your face.

Sure, you could get into a hideous car accident--but there's risks associated with anything in life, might as well enjoy those rare in-between moments while they last.

Yeah, highways are by far the safest roads. The inner city in rush hours are hell on earth. Bicycles, pedestrians, cars, buses and trams ****ing everywhere, and not a single one gives a shit about anyone else. Lights and zebra crossings everywhere. Noise, chaos and stress. If you prefer that to the highway you're mad.

And then of course you have rural roads with two-way traffic and speeds almost as high as on the motorway (or higher ;)), blind bends, hills, hidden dips, hidden junctions, often poor surfaces/no lighting or gritting, overtaking situations, some of these roads are the width of one car yet traffic flows in both directions....hmm.

Motorways are easy as piss!

This, pretty much.

Highways are not safe to drive on at 5 in the morning when the sun is still rising and the roads haven't been plowed yet after the snow storm.

The only highways I fear are of those variety that cross 2+ mile long bays, like the one here in Jacksonville FL.

Human engineering fails miserably quite often. Hell, humans at Microsoft can't even create a f**king OS that won't crash ever other hour.

And of course everyone thinks that because they're in the country there's no danger and they can go as fast as they like.

Who thinks that? The vast majority of people struggle to even attain the speed limit consistently on your average twisty A road. Rural roads are very hazardous and this is reflected in the speed most drive them at; it takes a hell of a lot of skill and concentration to travel them quickly, let alone quickly and safely.

Rather, most people seem to drive at 40mph through the NSL sections (slowing to 35 for every slight bend), and then continue driving at 40mph through the villages...because they have absolutely no idea how to handle their car.

When I lived in Scotland, the roads were, some odd twists and turns aside, fairly navigable. The speed limits were 50 and people would go 60 and generally speaking that would be fine, becuause when you're crossing the road out there you can hear a car coming a mile off even if you can't see it. But people from the mainland seemed to be under the impression that nobody really lived on this island. And so they carried on going 50 or 60 or 70 and caused a lot of accidents, especially when they did it in villages where the limit is actually 30 or 20 and where lots of people live.

I've referred to this before but I can't be bothered to look up the post.

50? But the national speed limit is 60. Is that just one particular part of Scotland you're talking about?

Well if they don't slow down for villages then yes, they're morons. I was referring to rural roads with no posted limit. The NSL being commonly understood to be a guideline only, yet still most drivers struggle to exceed 45 on even the faster and safer of these roads.

Begs the question, as you would fail any advanced driving test for not maintaining a swift 60mph on a twisty B road where it is safe to do so providing you have that skill, why the hell is our motorway speed limit only 10mph higher?
