Federal Air Marshal fires weapon aboard United plane

somebody's lying:

Passengers: Alpizar Didn't Say 'Bomb'

One passenger said he "absolutely never heard the word 'bomb' at all" during the uproar as the Orlando-bound flight prepared to leave Miami on Wednesday. Federal officials say Rigoberto Alpizar made the threat in the jetway, after running up the plane's aisle from his seat at the back of the jetliner.

Yes, obviously this man. Either that or he was simply too far away.

yes because you can say that with a 100% certainty :upstare:

curious ...what makes you say that? is it your unflinching trust in authority that makes you think they'll do the right thing?

sorry but I trust no one till they gave me a reason to

I am having my doubts about this incident as well. If all the witnesses are correct this guy was showing erratic behaviour from the moment he entered the airplane. It wouldn't have been too much trouble for the air marshall to ask the man's wife about her husband's mental condition. He clearly had one. Then the statement about the bomb (if it was ever made) could have been interpreted as a sign of his condition, not as a real threat.

The problem is not that I have too much faith in the authorities, the problem is that you have too little. The air marshall, just like the soldiers in Iraq are not mindless bloodthirsty killers. He wouldn't have shot the man if he had absolutely no reason to. The comparison with a government's decision to invade a country is completely inappropriate.

I didnt say or imply anything ..I said "somebody's lying

no, it is appropriate as it's an example of how authority can lie to get what they want

also to add what shakermaker said ...they should have know from the beginning he was a possible disturbance. As a person who's worked with people with special needs, there's no mistaking they have problems in a public setting

One passenger says he didn't say bomb. Why can't they have a plane full of people say the same thing? Or is it that this 1 guy wasn't paying attention or was too far away and did not catch the word. The guy did after all run across the plane.

What the marshals did was right. That guy should have had someone with him if he was mentally handicap and could do something like that.

On the other hand...what if this guy really did have a bomb(pretend he did) and the marshals went to question him instead of shooting? He reached into his bag, grabbed a detonator and would have blown the plane up. Those marshals didn't know he wasn't going to do that. This event is very unfortunate but when an event like this happens there is no way to know if someone is joking around or serious.

I would shoot him to if he starts running through the plane and is yelling I have a Bomb while reaching into a back pack

Tazers vs. a detonator. You tazer him, he pushes the button, 300 people die.

He was reaching for his bag.

I understand what happened, and why it happened even moreso. I realise that people can't be right a hundred percent of the time, and that sometimes risks have to be taken.

I just don't like the idea of a disabled guy guy dying because he forgot his meds is all

True I see you'r side of the story also never thought of it that way

i blame the wife - she failed him and the marshal who felt compelled to shoot him

:upstare: ya cuz you're an authority on mental illness ...do you have any idea how many millions of people are on mind altering pharmaceuticals for a wide range of problems? do you know how expensive it is to employ a one-to-one worker 24 hours a day? oh ya your free healthcare pays for all that

not for second has it ever entered your mind that the marshall COULD have been at fault ....just because he's a person in authority

Of course, this raises another question: do they have that little faith in their airport security, and if so, why?

No...im not going to hop on the stern train and agree just because you said it. You always blame authorities for any action they do whether or not they are right. So I want un deniable proof that they were at fault. Even if he didn't say bomb his actions were enough and he didn't stop when told to.

Agreed in full.

Can we stop being anti-establishment for the sake of it?

If you mean anti-goverment, then Amen.
