FF XIII trailers released...watch quickly!

Watch them here. I don't know how long they will be up. They look brilliant. Some of them we have seen, other bits not at all. Very excited for both of these.

I watched the trailer and there was no gameplay, but I thought it's still AWESOME! Wait though, since I can't think that because there's no gameplay I can only watch the trailers with no opinion. Common sense.

Well, we already know from scans posted earlier in the year that for Versus at least, those are real gameplay environments and character models in some of the shots towards the end. I don't know if anything from the first clip is gameplay except perhaps the jungle part of the trailer (which is as old as the day is long) at this point. (That doesn't stop it from looking gorgeous though.) The horned brontosaurus/turtle things from the XIII clip look awesome as well. These will both be terrific games (esp. if FFXII is anything to go by--it was my favorite in the proper series yet!).

I could argue for hours which Final Fantasy games are good/bad but one thing that stays consistent is breathtaking design. They sure know the definition of beauty and how to deliver it.

if by finest you mean going the same style whit 0.00001% variation like in the first trailer that have a look very similiar to the previous ones them maybe yeah

Edit - But seriously, am I the only one who thinks the characters look kind of bland? I like that the protagonist in XIII is female for once (plus her outfit is pretty sweet), and that guy with the shotgun in Versus looks like he could be pretty fun, but besides that it's just bimbo-bimbo-tough guy-angst magnet.

Couldnt give a **** about gameplay. I love the shit out of this. You can say oh there's nothing special about EVERY game since mario. Saying a character looks "typical" isn't a valid reason to dismiss a game. All games have the same 3 types of protagonists. 1. the lone wolf who must find his inner self. 2. the loud mouth cool guy who gets brought down to earth when something catastrophic happens. 3. the level headed "natural" leader whom everyone just randomly decides to follow.

I've still yet to get excited about this one. Where is the love Square-Enix? It just feels very manufactured. FFXIII seems to be continuing FFXII's trajectory of 'let's make the fantasy version of Star Wars Episodes I through III!' and Versus looks like Advent Children via GCSE Shakespeare.

It's not like I'm expecting to like them though. The PS2 generation Final Fantasy games weren't especially good examples of the modern console RPG. Layer in the English Voice Acting and I'll be rushing through the conservatory door and out into the pukatorium.

FFXII was the best in the series imho. (Disclaimer: that just means I had the most fun playing that one as opposed to the others. The other closest game would be VI; see below). X and X-2 were pretty poor and I never finished either.

Mind you, these did not have as memorable or quirky characters, dialogue or story. VII may have been the biggest breakthrough for the series, but best story and coolest/most memorable charaters goes (hands-down) to FF VI: Terra, Locke, Cyan, Shadow, Edgar, Sabin, Celes, Strago, Relm, Setzer, Mog, Gau, Gogo, Umaro, Kefka, Banon, Ultros, Cid, Emperor Gestahl. INCREDIBLE CAST.

I'd have to agree with this post. I've never finished X or X-2, though I bought both of them....never finished XII either, actually.

I haven't seen the trailer, but if it isn't on PS2, there is no way in hell I'll be playing this any time soon

Anyway, I love watching the videos in the Final Fantasy's and such....always fun. I used to have a VHS of all the vids in FF7 along with all the summons and limit breaks. Was kinda fun.
