The story looks the same old level of daft, the characters give off a heavily dawson's-creekish Final Fantasy VIII vibe that still doesn't appeal and there are no ****ing moogles.

My hopes aren't high, but it's at least looking less-rushed and poorly constructed than the utterly awful Final Fantasy X. Yet it's in real danger of being a Final Fantasy XII. At least I can remember why I will never touch 10 again. 12 was just... they must have used some heavy compression to fit that much lack of notability onto a single DVD. Not only was it impossible to care for the characters, it's the first game I've ever played where the game just plain didn't care about me enough to pretend it wasn't an automated time pisser. 13 just has this air about it, brimming with cliche and teenage angst as it clearly is. Worse still, the insular city setting remind me of Overman King Gainer and nothing should be allowed to do that.

If FF X was awful, then X-2 was atrocious. What was Square thinking when they made that cheesy-ass, "Charlie's angels" shit?

Oh yeah, I'm not very confident XIII will hold up to the likes of VI/III or XII. In fact, just like some others, XII was probably the best FF since VII.

(but VI/III is still and will always be my favorite.)

Not a dig at you, but I think I'm going to post about Final Fantasy games using good old-Arabic descended numerals from now on. Roman numerals are too much work to read and write!

I for one have only played it as far as the return to Besaid. I realised the game was not for me (and anyone else with a mind) about the time I was given a video of a waterfall as reward for an hour of rubbish exploration. Sadly, this meant I never got to play dress-up. Boo.

X was the only one I never finished. I never even bought X-2. Seemed like a waste. Glad I didn't. XIII reminds me of X from what I have seen, so unless some drastic changes are put into place, I don't think I will like it that much.

The stupid garment grid and "dress-up" in lieu of the summons is the cherry on top of the shit cake. (or peanut)

Oh, this also doesn't change the fact that Square totally screwed up Bahamut in FF X.

Final Fantasy XIII released March 9th in North America / Europe.

The great news is that since Leona Lewis is doing the theme song, it'll be easier than ever to use this game to soften the ground before coming out to your parents!
