Films: Rate and Discuss

Well I enjoyed Jarhead lol.

Robocop - violence/10

I haven't seen this film in far too long, so obviously it needed a rewatch when it came on. The violence levels are pretty much at the same level as Rambo 4, its actually quite ridiculous in parts haha. I mean there is a part in it

where this guy tries running robocop down and he moves out the way so he smashes right into this vat of chemical waste and he crawls out all ****ed up, wailing and screaming 'help meeee'. Its one of the most disturbing things I have seen in quite a while.

Still, it was a very good watch, the action is superb really and there so much humor in it to give you some distractions.

****ing love this film, saw it on it's home VHS release when I was about 8 :D, have it on DVD and still go back to it now and then. The sequels were shambolic though (Yes, I own them as well).

Robocop - violence/10

Paul Verhoeven is the man! After all he brought us Robocop, Starship Troopers, and Total Recall. All action classics.

Star Trek: Wrath of Khan 8/10

Been watching a lot of Star Trek TOS lately. Haven't seen the original series until relatively recently. I grew up with The Next Generation, but now I like this one as well. So I decided to check out the movies. The first one was a boring mess of a film, however "Wrath of Khan" is a fun sci-fi action movie, which manages to capture the cheesy charm of the series.

The Crazies - 7/10

Now to me, this film was just another of a long line of films trying to be SO intense, but just falling short of it. Could be because its rather predictable, or because every technique used in the film has been used in a million other films already, or just a mix of the both.

Still, despite the fact that its using an old plot line and setting, I did enjoy it. There were some very cools scenes, lots of enjoyable violence and a massive explosion. In terms of intensity I was just wishing it had more, but I think there was only maybe one or two scenes that had me on the edge of my seat. Still, worth the watch.

Christ, what an awful ending...

Can I ask you a question ? Was Taken remade or something from a foreign film. Because I swear I saw a Bollywood film with the exact same plot albeit the daughter is kidnapped and taken to Malaysia. And it had an aged father going berserk and dealing it to the kidnappers. There are some changes, but the plot is scarily similar. And the Bollywood movie in question was made in 2002 or something.

It wouldn't surprise me given that a) Hollywood does that all the goddamn time and b) it's not a terribly "unique" story, but I haven't heard this specifically.

The Blind Side: 6.5

This had potential to be pretty good, but there are so many goddamn cliches. Bullock was on her game as she kinda steals the show.

ewwww football movies....I'm so sick of those

also

Rescue Me: Season 1 9/10

Love this show! its funny, witty, throws you a curve ball here and there plus it has a decent amount of variety and different story-lines. i watched this in about a weeks time and can't wait to watch more

Heaven's Door - 9/10
Found out about this movie when I realized one of the albums (of the same name as the movie) by a group called Plaid was actually a soundtrack for a movie. It was weird hearing the whole soundtrack of the movie being music I was very familiar with already. Weird and cool, it made the movie that much better.

Just finished my second watch after about 2 weeks, liked it just as much.

I cried a couple times the first time I watched and again the second time. It's a really great movie and I recommend it.

Total Recall - 3 Boobs

Ok, the acting was awkward, and I've noticed that the police are all a bunch of retards without training.

KILL THE MUTANT

Also, mind**** comment at the end.

Kick-Ass:

it started off pretty slow but it really picked up and seriously it really did kick ass!! Go see it!!!

Clash of the Titans: 8.5

I don't have any real complaints except some slightly cheesy acting during a few scenes. The worst part was that some ****er brought in there ****ing baby who ****ing cried during half the movie and they wouldn't ****ing take it out of the ****ing theater. Seriously, how ****ing gay can you get? ****

Shutter Island - 7/10

I'm not a Leo fan by any means, but I have to admit his a very good actor, he did a convincing job in this. However the story overall was a dissapointment.

It's yet another one of those movies where the main character is actually the insane killer, but he doesn't know it. I honestly would've liked this movie a lot better if it really was a conspiracy with evil doctors experimenting on patients and such.

Watched Shutter Island back to back with Gerard Butler's "Law Abiding Citizen", and I liked this one a lot more.

Law Abiding Citizen - 8/10

It's a well made thriller, and even though the main character (played by Gerard Butler) is completely out of control, they still manage to make the viewer sympathize and even root for him. However...
the ending doesn't make sense. Throughout the movie he displays great skill in planing everything ahead in great detail, yet he neglected something as simple as placing traps/security systems in his hideout next to the prison...

Law Abiding Citizen - 8/1

??? jesus really? I'd give it 3/10. Nothing more than formulaic churned out Hollywood trash.

Matchstick Men - 8/10...

Funny and extremely charming with a twist that I never really saw coming.

I love Matchstick Men!

Hot Tub Time Machine: 7/10

When I saw the advertisements for this movie, I knew I had to see it. It looked like shit, and I was of that opinion walking in to the theater. I think the low expectations really helped, because surprisingly, I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. The plot doesn't make sense and it's extremely stupid, but it's awesome. I love Crispin Glover and I had no idea he was in Hot Tub Time Machine; he was a part of one of the most funny running jokes I've ever seen in a movie.

It's a really great movie made even better by the awesome performances by everyone.(especially Alison Lohman, Jesus Christ does she ever age?)

Hot Tub Time Machine looked like a movie that knew it had a retarded premise and just went and had fun with it.
A sort of so bad it's good type movie like Snakes on a Plane.

Definitely planning on seeing it.

Anchorman - The Legend Of Ron Burgandy - 9/10

I really dont like Ferrel, but this one makes me chuckle every time I see it. Havent seen it in ages, but there are some lines in this film that are pure genious.

Like when he gets whipped; 'Ahhh! Knights of Columbus that hurt!'

And the punting off the bridge scene.

The New World(2005) - 7.5/10...

Beautiful, beautiful movie with one of the best openings I've seen in ages and a fantastic musical score to go with it all.
But, it moves at a snail's pace and has one of the most overused plots ever with mostly uninteresting characters.

Clash of the Titans - 5/10

I first heard about this movie by seeing a commercial for it, and I loved how the Kraken was portrayed: ugly, gigantic, and deadly. But when I actually watched the entire movie, I wasn't that impressed.

The story wasn't that great, and the character development didn't amount to anything in the end. I did, however, love the CGI effects of the monsters, like Medusa and the Kraken. I just wished they had made a better story.

There probably aren't any spoilers to this, but just to be safe, I'll use spoiler tags.

The plot was basically this: Go to Medusa, cut her head off, show it to the Kraken, which will turn it into stone, and you'll save the day. That's it.

Well thats...pretty much what Greek Mythology was.

So if you were expecting more, then you wouldve always been dissapointed.

Personally Im looking forward to it. Lord Of The Rings had a pretty crap story but that film was..fairly awesome some would say.

Films based on history are always controversial. There will always be the argument against the historical accuracy, as Hollywood has to bend history to make the film more 'watchable', aka make moar monies.

See, thats true, but theyre harldy the list of historical practices and cultures that makes for a potentially good movie.

To backtrack to my point, take Medusa for example; was it actually boring that whats-his-head killed her with his shield's reflection?

''He found her and killed her in quite a cool way. Man, thats so boring.''

Clash of the Titans looks like absolute shite. Why would you pay money to see it, to me it looks like another of these films that's a lovely exterior decorated house full of a hundred rotting corpses. A mate of mine saw it and just said its all well over the top, and this is from a guy who loved the transformers films...

Sherlock Holmes 6/10

Not as good as I was hoping. Why they felt the need to turn the greatest detective ever into a petulant man-child is beyond me. Also, had to turn subs on just to figure out what Downey was mumbling half the time.

K-19 The Widowmaker - 7.5/10...
A little bit slow but really intense, would've been an 8 if they all actually spoke Russian instead of English with terrible accents.

Planet of the Apes(2001) - 7.5/10...
Extremely entertaining, a treat for the eyes and ears(apart from some lousy acting by a few people), and nicely paced.
I don't understand where all of the hate comes from.

The Spirit: 7.5/10
What can I say, I'm a sucker for film noir.

Midgets vs Mascots: 9/10
Watched this on xbox in a Netflix party with friends; Made it 10x better. I was literally rofling when
Alligator got his arm bitten off while wrestling an alligator.
Sheriff was also quite funny in it.

Rescue Me: Season 2 8.5/10

Funny show, addicting to watch, good cast. one thing i hate is when they replace a key character for a week, like when they got rid of the grandpa for 2 weeks i was pissed, the mumbling idiot came back on and i was almost peeing my pants. also tommy's uncle and his father say the funniest shit. i could still go with less of the dead people thing but i guess it works for the show

2012 - About what I expected/10

Might as well have just have named it "Everybody Escapes Everything At The Last Second Except The People Who You Know Are Going To Die The Second They First Appear In The Movie."

Kickass 9/10

Really fun movie, well performed and directed. Fights nicely choreographed, script more than adequate. Nothing to complain about and it's got a lot of laughs.

This.

I heard really good things about it but I honestly didn't expect it to blow me away everyone else said it would. Granted, I knew little about the film before going in (had read the plot outline on Wikipedia though) and this is definitely one of the best films I've seen in a cinema in a long time. It's just balls to the wall action hilarity.

The only concern now is I hope that it doesn't get meme'd to death via unfunny internet dickwads the same way 300 did (although 300 was a pretty shit film).

Not this.

I was disappointed, Big Daddy and Hit girl were the only redeeming factors. Kick-Ass was such as a bland character. 6/10.

Alice in Wonderland - 1/10.

More like Alice in Chunderland.

Utter shite! 1 point for the Cheshire Cat.

La Planète Sauvage - 8/10

Wonderfully animated, trippy as ****, occasionally grindingly slow. But a wonderful and very creative little film.

Them French animations.... enabling me to experience the effects of psychoactive substances..

Going down the TV series route, breaking the law ***ches!

Boston Legal - 8/10

Really liking this. Dont find it too boring, its quite educational, but the subtle comedy is hilarious at times. And Shatner gets a 10. Legendary stuff from him, some of his one-liners are inspiring.

'Come again?'
'I do hate it when you say that, it puts me under so much pressure'.

Big Bang Theory - 9/10

Havent laughed that hard in quite some time. Where have I been these last few years? Never really watched an episode but I did the other night and seriously want to get the box set. Truly genius.

I love that show, it's an absolute riot.
