Films that have had an effect on you.

A Clockwork Orange - had an effect on me but I'm still trying to figure out what

Forrest Gump - brought a tear to my eye when the kids are throwing rocks at him in his leg braces. Then his bestestest friend in the whole world, ever, dies. And his mum. And his wife(?). Then he starts to cry when his son goes off on his first day of school...

Poor bastard.

Suprised that so many of films I like, people here have mentioned. Here are my must see's.

the Matrix- the sequels were shit.
Donnie Darko
Taxi Driver - You talking to me?
Requiem for a dream
Fight club
Scarface
Neon Genesis Evangelion - the movie.

Forest Gump (It made me cry...)
The 1st matrix (Before it went to poopies)
Indiana Jones movie (I loved it when I was a little boy)
Castaway (WILLLSOOOON!)

these movies made me more inspired to accomplish my goals.

scarface
million dollar baby
enter the dragon
braveheart

the main characters in these movies are very strong-willed and know what they want. very inspiring to me :)

forrest gump was sad, quite sentimental,if a lil too much at times

Shawshank Redemption... gives me hope

american history X makes me want to be able to defend myself in situations where im being attacked, and that all races are one.. all racists should watch this imo.

Forrest Gump says that life should be packed with stories and adventures, not just doing nothing with my life.

American Beauty - The entire movie is actually quite depressing until the end of the film, where Lester gives that little speech about his life as he lies on the kitchen table with a hole in the back of his head. I dont know why but that little speech always makes me smile and just feel glad that i'm alive, and that one day when i die, everything will be fine. Love that movie

Sideways - Again, depressing movie. But it just charmed me, i don't know how. I guess it was just through watching Miles deal with all his shit and then finally getting on with life at the end of the film. Great movie.

top three in this order:
American History X
The Motorcycle Diaries
Star Wars (started a lifelong obsession with sci-fi)

edit: about an hour after that post I watched requiem for a dream at 1 in the morning. that goes on the list tied for second.

Fight Club
American History X
Waking Life

These are all great movies and I suggest that you should watch all of them if you have the oppurtunity.

The Matrix (first one only) I think that my name already gives this away though ;)

Enemy At the Gates
Man On Fire
Saving Private Ryan
The Ring ( heh )
The Killing Fields
Hotel Rawanda
The Passion of the Christ

I think for everyone it would have to be a horror of some sort.

Fight Club ( my all time favorite movie)
The Truman Show
The Shawshank Redemption (oh man is this a wonderful movie, really sad)
Groundhog Day (really makes you think about life, and what you would do in that same situation)
Man On Fire
Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down
Forest Gump (probably #2 on movies that changed my life list)

I don't know why, or exactly what effect this movie had on me, but it was strong. "Somewhere In Time" Starring Christopher Reeve.

Terminator 2 - inspiring; I like robots and AI. Skynet became self-aware on my birthday. :)

Shrek - I dig the purely fantasy setting. Jokes or no jokes, I really like the theme of that movie. The only movie I have on my computer from DVD.

Jurassic Park (I & II) - always been utterly fascinated by Dinosaurs (and AI). I love the way JP1 and Shrek begins at the Dreamworks/Universal logos; super quiet and thoughtful, inspiring...

Starship Troopers (1) - fascinated by aliens and sci-fi wars. I read the book; lots of interesting war and tactical ideas.

Passion of the Christ - need I say more? One of the best films ever made.

I'm glad someone here put Motorcycle Diaries aswell. The movie was just awesome in every way possible. Definently a highlight of 2004.

I personally thought PoC had no entertain value what-so-ever. Mel Gibson directing wasn't anything to remember. He should stick to acting.

Band of Brothers in movie form..
Gladiator
The Matrix..

Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same, made me want to get interested in music

The Doors in Europe, it taught me how to play a bunch of Doors songs on the keyboard

The Big Lebowski made me want to say "dude" and "bummer" a lot, also it's a very quotable movie.

The Passion of the Christ is not entertainment IMO.

He didn't die on the cross so that we could watch it at the movie theater with popcorn. :hmph: Definitely not.

The power comes through by means other than "entertainment", because such is not why one should be watching that kind of movie. It's one of the greatest movies ever to me, because it carries a payload heavier and higher than anything else imaginable.

That's one of my favorite movies of all time. Extremely well made and bloody excellent acting.

Also, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind put me in a weird mood for a while.

schindlers list - i've never had such a lack of faith in humanity than what i had after seeing this film. the very fact we can be that vile towards each other is something to keep you up at night for the rest of your life

shawshank redemption - made me want to be the one person that could change things in whatever i might decide to do in life much like tim robbins in the film

truman show - forever made me paranoid

naked gun - the urge to pratfall had never been so strong

saving private ryan - the horrors of war right before your eyes...but will we learn? not in my life time

crimson tide - the thought that such an amount of power could lie with one man is a troublesome one

enemy of the state - a premonition in my opinion...the invasion of privacy is edging more and more into our lives almost unnoticeably, but its happening

cube - WHAT WAS BEYOND THE CUBE?

load more but i can't think cos its 4am

Donnie Darko definetely...
Eternal Sunshine
Glory
Malcolm X
Dont laugh....The Bad News Bears
For some reason after seeing I, Robot I couldn't think straight for a week
after face/off i really just sat back in and went "holy shit". Not life changing, but a good movie non the less.

i never watch hollywood produced sequels to independant films because i know that a big dissapointment is in store

me brother saw it and told me that they reveal slightly who owned the cube and whats beyond it and even know i say, what was beyond the cube as a joke, i think the entire point of the film was never to know or to find out...the original is a film i personally think is a metaphor for life on earth

they are put there for no reason, to survive and they don't know why or who did it to them and don't even know if anyone is watching them

its a truely intellectual film and i'd like to have my own thoughts and gatherings based on the loose end and plot of the first film than some shabby answer some fat cat has written up for the second film to make his pocket that little deeper with box office revenue

Movies have always had an effect on me, and I'll name some them:
There will always be Forrest Gump, Donnie Darko, the Wedding Singer, Sign and the Sixth Sense, The Rock, Accidental Hero, Dead Trilogy and the weirdest of all would be this 1929 film called 'Un Chien Andalou'

Seen the cube 2? That one is good too (but not as good)

Noooooooooooo!

It is the worst movie I have ever seen (honestly, just beating Spawn)

It is terrible in every possible way, and lacks everything that made the first so good.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Passion of the Christ

The thing that has had the biggest effect on my whole outlook on life wasn't even a film, it was a 30 minute documentary. I wish i'd recorded it because it was awesome, it had me crying and I never cry.

I'm not sure ... it was on UKTV People (I think) and was called 'Life After Life' (or Life After Death) ...

...anyway, basically this woman who was seriously ill, was hooked up to every medical monitor available checking all her body outputs (including brain functions) when she died. She had been dead for over an hour, and all her brain activity had died (absolutely zilch going on) yet miraculously she was brought back to life by doctors.

Anyway, the awesome part was her story. Even though she was *dead* (all her brain functions were gone) she was having an out of body experience, she remembered looking down on her own body from above her bed and seeing the doctors working on her, she saw her loved ones calling her into a light, and she had a guardian angel with her. The details that she revealed about the doctors in the room left absolutely no doubt in the doctors' minds that what she was saying was true.

All of the doctors were interviewed and none of them could explain how the brain could keep memories even though there was absolutely no brain activity going on, but hers obviously did. The soul is real, people.

I was sceptical before watching that, but now ... death does not scare me. The woman is awesome, after her experience she tells people that life is for living, and it is relationships you create and the good that you do that counts in life, not the money you make or the material things.

Watching the documentary just put a lot of things into perspective. I've been trying to find it for download or on DVD but I can't find it anywhere.

Yeah, whilst she was dead she realised she couldn't just leave her kids to grow up without a mother, and the angel pulled her back out of the light ... it's then that she re-entered her body and miraculously came back to life.

It all sounds really far fetched, but you've just got to see the documentary to believe it. I just wish I could download it.

Sounds amazing Pobz, wish i'd seen it. I'm always quite skeptical of these out of body experiences and all that, but if what the doc said is true then... woah.

The Matrix
Scarface
Arachnophobia
American History X
Fight Club

The Matrix
Star Wars
Superman
TheRing1
........

Any movie revolving around a metally challenged person.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape (Saw it when I was maybe 9 or 10... I cried)
Radio (Watched it in Health class. A year ago. Age 15. I cried in class :( )

They are so sad :( :( :( :(

I want to cry right now. I already am ;(

Of Mice and Men - I was so young when I saw it and it made me cry.

Silence of the Lambs - Another movie I saw when I was pretty young. It freaked me out. I had no idea how twisted some of these serial killers were.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - I used to watch this movie all the time. I remember going outside and pretending I was Indiana.

Cast Away - Excellent movie. Makes me think about how great life can be. It also made me appreciate what I have even more.

Schindlers List - So sad. Hard to believe that us humans could exploit and exterminate a group of people that fast and without remorse.

Saving Private Ryan/Band of Brothers - Two WWII movies that got me interested in the war. Made me appreciate the men and women who serve in the armed forces. I have nothing but respect for veterans and those enlisted today.

American History X - Again, another movie that shows the absolute brutality of man. It also shows how utterly rediculous it is to hate a certain group of people.

The Matrix - An inspiration for my art. The story was pretty good and made you ask yourself, "What if?"

Taken - As a serious believer in extraterrestrial life, this series made me want to question things more. I began a proactive approach to finding the truth. I joined the Disclosure Project as a voluteer. I want to find out if we are alone or not.
