Tired of all these FF7 emo fanboys telling this game is teh best... it's not. "OMFG PS3 will pwn console race if they release FF7 remake!" I've played better games, you wankers.

So stfu, all of you sephiroth and cloud lovers.

So because somebody thinks that Final Fantasy 7 is the best RPG out thus far, they are "emo fanboys"? I'm not Final Fantasy Fanboy, I enjoy most of them, except for 8 9 X X2 and 11. Now for those people that are saying they will make a FF7 remake are just kidding themselves. FF7 is STILL selling at 50 bucks a copy. They made a movie/sequel, they don't need to do anything else with it. They are idiots for saying that. But calling all people who enjoy ff7 emo fanboys is just...presumptuous. They have a different opinion than you, welcome to the real world. Get off your high horse, and you won't look like an idiot.

I can't even believe that I am dignifying this with a response, but FFVII at the time was a pretty darn ground-breaking game. I am not going to sit here and go through the LONG list why, but these "FF emo fanboys" are pretty much right-on when it comes to discussing how much a FFVII remake would do for the PS3, esp. in Japan. We have all seen what Crisis Core just did for itself as a piece of software and the PSP as a piece of hardware in Japan. (And you would have to be certifiably insane to think that Squeenix isn't considering the remake extremely seriously. Out of all the FFs, VII is the one with the largest fanbase--just think of the $$$--you know they are!!) If you don't like it, that is fine, but there is a HUGE community of fans that adore it. (Personally, I prefer XII. :D)

I don't doubt FF7 would make truckloads of cash if remade for PS3, but I seriously doubt it would be a good homage to the original considering the nature of Square Enix nowadays. It would probably have another ****ing Gackt cameo too.

The original, however, was great. It is one of the only latter day FF's that got the balance right of appealing graphics, nicely pitched game mechanics, atmos, not-that-irritating characters (not all of them at least) and story that doesn't get too stupid and incoherent too long before the end. Best soundtrack too, no matter what Uematsu thinks of his own stuff.

I'll admit, XII is a great game. Voice acting is a little piss poor, but shit happens. The gameplay is fun, and they went a completely different direction with it. It is a little overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of it, and start using your gambits, the game just runs through itself. I got stuck at a part where I couldn't find out where to go, so I shut it off, then 3 months later, I start the game again, and have NO idea where I was...so I just made a new game. Sucks, because I was probably more than 1/2 way through the game :(

We will have to wait and see, but I would be willing to wager a lot that at least in Japan sh*t would hit the Tessen!!!

Oof! Yeah, that sucks and it is HUGE so not being able to come back to the middle of your quest certainly makes sense. Still, you get to go back and replay it again from scratch which is something I have been dying to do ever since I completed it months and months ago! It is my favorite 'true' FF (meaning Tactics was my all-time fav, but it is a different game type altogether and so isn't a 'true' FF).

Heh, I love Tactics. So fun. I've replayed that game so many times. Last time I tried doing only White Mages. I'm almost there :p

But yeah, replaying, you notice a few more things. Plus you know when to constantly level up. I'm just sad, since I spent around 2 hours running in this desert once, killing all the little wolf things, getting as big of a chain as I could....all that time, WASTED *cries*

More of a Final Fantasy 8 fan myself.

Though there's no denying FF7 is a beautiful game with wonderfully fleshed out characters. I can't stand how square keeps milking the franchise with action RPGs and half-assed movies though.

There is no FF7 remake as far as I know. :|

THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR OPINION ON A DECADE-OLD GAME

truly your timely insults put ff7 lovers in their place

When I tried to play it it kept crashing at one point so I couldn't finish it :(

I don't like the OP's attitude, but I have to say I wasn't as impressed with FFVII as I thought I'd be after hearing loads of good about the game.

FF7 does kick ass..It's one of my favorite games, and it's up there with the half life series.

When I tried to play it it kept crashing at one point so I couldn't finish it :(

There was a kid who bought it for the PC back in the day, and one point in the game when the NPC was to hit a switch to move an elevator...the NPC never did it. So that sucked for him.

But I know people have opinions about this game. Hell, alot of people love it, some people don't. Shit that's fine to express your opinion. But insulting people with a different opinion than you is just arrogant.

Unfocused's post was perfect. it says what he feels, and he's not calling anybody names He's a stupid twit..

:D

I couldn't even finish FF7, i think I got to disk 3...and just stopped. It was so freaking boring.

Well, even from the start of disc 3 you're pretty much right at the end of the game. Seriously I'm yet to play any RPG that hasn't fallen apart, to at least some degree, in the latter stages of the game, so I don't hold the slight mediocrity of disc 3 against FF7. Myself, I stopped playing both FF8 and FF9 right before the end.

Well not to be unfair to FF7, but it's not like I was that excited about the game from disc 1 and 2...it's just at disk 3 I got so tired of it, I just couldn't even play it anymore. I kinda had to push myself through the first discs anyway, because everybody talks about how ****ING FANTASTIC this game is...I just kept thinking, "well maybe it's gets SO ****ING FANTASTIC towards the end..."

then I realized I was wrong.

I've only played FF1, FF2 (american), and FF7. FF1 bored me; its extremely hard. FF7 was good, I like pretty much any game with a good storyline. But FF2, in my opinion was extremely good, and i enjoyed it a lot. still wouldn't want to see any remakes though, since graphics have never been important to me.

HONESTLY, I have NEVER played an FF game =|

Tactics. . . that's about it. I can say it was definitely not the most innovative game (VII), but you have to admit, it was pretty interesting how square made a major comeback just by starting the FF series. I will agree, I'm not a huge fan of the FF series even slightly. BUT I have nothing against those who are so hardcore about it. Even more so, if FF 7 'isn't all that shit', what about Half-Life? Halo? The Mario Series?

No, they're only loved by emo fan boys. . . that's sarcasm btw =P.

People have their opinions, that's fine and I'm down with it, but stereotyping a WHOLE SET OF FANS is not the way to go.

Played the demo of FF7 long ago and couldn't even finish that... so I guess I'd agree. I did like 8, though, until my save file corrupted near the end and I couldn't finish. Never been compelled to try again or play another FF game since...

Lol dude how much crack did you smoke this morning? I bet the guys at your local game store just love you ;).

Anyways I agree with sea that the mass appeal is probably cause they are so cinematic. Most RPGs I like I like cause they have a huge universe to explore, a great storyline and a deep combat system. I dont really think square has done much of anything innovative with any of the FF games, but why does it need that to be great? Blizzard never did anything really that innovative they just polished what they had, and are still tremendously successful.

This thread fails on multiple levels. I mean look at Halo tonnes of people think it's awesome, but I don't go out of my way to make a thread saying it sucks.

/finishes Crisis Core again. Unlike most idiots that thought it'd be a good idea to order the Asian/Japanese version I can actually read the bloody dialog.

FF7 was alright to me. Heard a lot of raving about it, played it for some time, but ultimately never got hooked. I can't put my finger on why, as I can't find any serious fault with the game (at the time), but yeah. I've never really cared for JRPG's too much to begin with.

In other news, I am playing Planescape again after a few years since having failed to complete it due to a computer malfunction, and I'm loving it to death. That is a game that has aged well (IMO) and there are few games since its release that can compare to its exquisite writing.

Amen bruzzuh. I think if there's ever a game that marries Planescape's level of writing and atmosphere with the drop-your-pants graphics of nowadays, then the universe will crumple up and vanish like the house in Poltergeist.

I do like my JRPGs though, in moderation. For games like that, they succeed or fail almost entirely on how much resonates with something within the player. With FF7, I loved the concept of Midgar, loved all the music, liked the main character, and on some fundamental level just believed in what I was playing. That's not to say I believed I was in a twinkly world full of spikey haired dwarves, just that I sympathised with it. With all the subsequent FF's, I've not really disliked the games, I've just felt disconnected with them due to lack of any cool concepts I can feel for.

hell Yeah!

Planescape was the absolute farking bomb. Once I finish Arcanum (Pretty awesome!) and Star Wars: Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy (Eh... spawning lots of things is fun, but storyline is so full of ass... nevermind) I might boot up Planescape again.

My friends are all like that.. little anime bitches and their FF7 and kingdom hearts.. and NARUTO. WTF? It's okay for awhile but it justs gets annoying. And this one fat kid who got pulled back into 8th grade (haha.. we get to go into high school and he doesnt! yay!) who, if we said anything bad about a game he likes, will squish us. It's.. so.. SCARY.. He sacked me once.. oh dear god.. it was like getting sucked into a black hole.

You feel the need to resort to insults because? People have interests and no matter how wacky/silly/sad/depraved? they may seem to you, doesn't really justify the need to bash said people (unless said interests are causing harm to yourself or another person). As for FF7 I love it because of the kick arse story.

And to clear things up on my end I hate Kingdom Hearts and Naruto. Then again I am a sick minded, degenerate, perverted, lolicon so my opinion doesn't account for much.

I think FF7 was good, but it's not even the best in the FF series, and didn't really innovate in any important way, only technical and graphical ways. Yes, it's one of the first big 3-d RPGs, but it doesn't actually have anything in it that couldn't have happened in a 2-d RPG just as easily and effectively. Of those I've played, I thought 6, 10 & 12 were better overall.

7 does definitely have some of the best music, though.

Are we twins?

I ****ing hate RPGs, but I gave FF7 a whirl and loved it.
It has a fantastic story, fantastic music, and so many memorable characters.

Aside from, y'know, practically inventing the JRPG genre.

But where's the innovation in that?
Id say dragon quest did more of that then FF wouldnt you? Or maybe the earlier games like wizardry that it was influenced by. Maybe I should have worded what I said better cause of course JRPGs wouldnt be as far along as they are now if it wasnt for FF, they helped deepen the combat, story and everything they do has high production values. But look at FF11, is there anything innovative there? Not really if you play it, it plays just like any other fantasy MMO.
I love the games but the ATB fighting sequences of 6-9 (did 5 use it? I cant remember) got tedious after awhile, and I cant see how they really pushed the genre forward gameplay-wise with these games. It was innovative at first and they refined it with the other games, but to me I think they took way too long to drop it for 10.
Anyways which one is your favourite? What would you say is the most innovative aspect of the FF series?

FF7 was and still is my favorite game of all time. It might be because it was the first FF I played, and it might be because it was the first time experiencing an RPG (I was in 5th grade), but for whatever reasons, FF7 is far from an average game. To call us emo fanboys is pretty extreme. And if they did remake it for the PS3, you can be damn sure it'd be a huge release.
