Finally joining the Current Gen console land.....

I like surfing on my ps3. I play games on my 360, imo you should have got a 360.

You should have gotten the SNES.

I don't need two!

@Baserape:

Have you passed 2nd grade? Is reading comprehension part of what you learned at all in school? Also, because you play games on the 360 and surf with the PS3 means I should have gotten a 360? Hmmm...maybe I should ask you when to take a shit next time, also.

lol, Pesh.
I should rename the thread to "PS3 bashing bandwagon here!"

I'd probably get more hits and just might get in some brand new hl2.net thread hall of fame thing.

Also, I wish I could find an HDMI cable in town that wasn't 30+ bucks. >>

Yeah, I saw some on Newegg that would be fine, but I was hoping to just get some today. I guess I'm not cool enough :(

Would getting the HDMI cable improve the picture quality of the game? I figure it would, but just want some verification.

From the standard PS3 composite cables? Yes definitely, you go from a 480i (640x480) to 720p or 1080p (1280x720 or 1920x1080) depending on your HDTV, it's a very noticeable difference.

Oh, hurray, 1080p, here I come!

Well, just got back from Gamestop. Got me another controller + Battlefield: Bad Company and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

This should be interesting. Also added Cybr and Sedako.

Sheesh that's cheap. My cable cost $50 and I can't even use it as I dont have a HDMI tv. It came with the ps3 so yeah.

Ack, I hate how they make the cable for 2 bucks, some people sell it for 8 bucks while the rest sell it for insane amounts of money for NO reason.

HD cables are insanely marked up, mostly because people don't know enough to make informed decisions, and as soon as the salesperson says "oh but if you don't get this cable it won't look as good" people's brains shut down and go for it.

In reality, the quality of your cable doesn't matter as much, specially with a digital signal (HDMI). The only time where you might tell a difference is with the longer lengths of cable. A 6 foot cable's quality will not vary very much, it either works or it doesn't.

I got my HDMI cable for 6 bucks, I've done tests with more expensive cables and mine looked just as good :-P

The more you know...

HDMI cables do make a difference. If you get a 1 GBPS cable, you can't watch Blu-Ray in 1080p and actually hear the sound. You need a faster cable to get 1080p video and sound. I'll agree that getting something as speedy as 10 GBPS is pointless, but the speed absolutely, positively makes a difference depending on the aspect ratio.

For the size of the cables most people buy, speed isn't an issue.

Not to mention that half the time you buy an HDTV, they try to sell you the MonsterCable HDMI crap. You're far better off spending the extra money you'd spend on these cables on a better TV rather than on a better cable. Unless you're dealing with top of the line equipment and a really expensive set, you're not liable to notice any kind of difference.

If you're trying to watch Blu-Ray in 1080p and have a 1Gbps cable, you'll most certainly notice something... no sound and/or no picture. This is because the cable can't transfer enough data (video and sound) fast enough to the TV.

Since most games run in 780p, you're absolutely correct. You won't notice a difference. When trying to run a 1080p aspect ratio however you will notice a gargantuan difference unless your cable runs faster than 1 Gbps.

I'll go ahead and try and remember to check the rated speed of my cables when I get home. But yeah, I could see that. However, I doubt this is a big issue with most cables, like I was saying, we both agree that either the cable works or it doesn't, there's no "higher quality" attained from spending an extra 100 bucks on a cable, the money is better spent on nicer hardware.

Completely agree here.

1080i isn't an issue either. Just 1080p. I know because I bought a bottom of the barrel (speed-wise) cable when I got my PS3 and had a rude awakening when I tried to watch my first Blu-Ray or play PSN 1080p games. Bought a cheap 2 Gbps and all problems were solved.

Eh, if I would get it, I'd get it for the PC *It's on the PC, right?*

Game doesn't look all too interesting to me. Also, the PC will be the main gaming platform for me, as there is no way I could replace it. And STFU about buying a 360.

I'll mainly use the PS3 for RockBand *since I already have it for the PS2* and since I"m on that road, I can get some FF13 and some other games I never considered cause I didn't think I'd be in this situation.
/agree

Most 360 games are also on the PC. So yeah, it wouldn't make much sense to get a 360 if one already owns a competent current-gen hardware PC.

Add me and I'll play RB2 with you.

The $4.74 cables I posted the link to are 10 GBPS...

Is it just specific games, or do they all have shitty voice recording?

Battlefield: Bad Company has some SHITTY voice comms. Like, people will be talking, but it sounds like crap.

I usually turn voice off for games since there will only be one person with a mic and they just ramble on to everyone. So f***ing annoying.

Well, the funniest moment of voice was when I was playing Rock Band 2, playing some Score Duel...a 14 year old kid was just like "CYBERPIIITTTZZ, ANSWER ME!!....Why aren't you talking to me!??! I HATE YOU!!" *quit*

Laughed to tears on that one.

That's probably the same 14 year old kid that I played with on Sunday who randomly quit after screaming hello for a few minutes.

It disappoints me that we still won't be able to play Rock Band together.

At least we were able to do it on the PC with GH3, though! Those were fkn good times....
