Firefox 4.0

So 4.0 is the same way I felt about 3.x.x, just meh.
It's a beta anyway, the current version is only 3.68. Betas are intended to get feedback and bug reports and suggestions.

It's just an internet browser. What's so exciting about Chrome?

Well gee, if IBM uses it
Well, yeah. That says a lot. IBM will be encouraging and training its employees to use FF, and it will be the default browser for its 400,000 employees.

Google employs only 10,000 people, and probably many of them use FF. (They don't use IE anymore, if you read the news)

Google defense force chiming in. Chrome is arguably the fastest, and least bloated OS available. It also has a great Google voice plugin, which integrates well with my Droid. I love the minimalist UI.

What am I missing here? There's no need to insult me.

So some higherups at a company decided that they're going to make Firefox the default browser for their employees. Ok, that's pretty cool for them. But, am I really supposed to care about that? Is that supposed to be a supporting argument for your to convince people to use it? How about I make my own decisions based on my own experiences, and not what some company is doing.

What does it say?
I was just reinforcing the fact that it's not past it's prime when one of the largest tech companies in the world adopted it as of this month.

That's like saying Windows is past its prime. I mean, you could argue that, but I'd think it was funny. Sure it's not as hot as it once was, I'll agree with that.

Whatever. it's the dumbest thing to argue about.
What am I missing here? There's no need to insult me.

Well, stop rolling your eyes at me and being a smart ass and I'm pretty nice.

I don't know. I'm not feeling good, I've got a fever. I feel like this isn't worth talking about, much less arguing about. I'm just going to come back tomorrow and see what the hell just happened.

But being a smartass is my modus operandi around here!

I wasn't saying/didn't say it's past it's prime. Someone else said that. I just think what you posted, if intended as a good reason for people to switch, is silly. Like "hey guys, IBM is doing it, so you should too! I mean they're like a big computer company or something!"

If you were just mentioning that story as 'something cool' then I apologize for attacking.

But I'm not trying to convince you to switch. Lol. I don't really care either way if people want to use Firefox or Chrome. I'm a fan of Google and Mozilla.

I just thought I would defend my current favorite because I saw 'FF beta', 'not really working well' and thought that was funny.

IBM is doing it, so you should too! I mean they're like a big computer company or something!"

Oh, man. You don't know that IBM created the PC, do you.

Lol, I know what IBM is bro. Doesn't change anything.

Both browsers are very good, with chrome maybe beating out FF ever so slightly (ie: insignificantly). But thats only if you take both browsers at stock. Add plugins... and chrome doesn't hold a candle anymore.

Doesn't change anything.
One guy said it's boring, I guess meaning 'not revolutionary or slow to develop'. Then someone said it's past it's prime.

Yeah, they had to make room for the mighty Google. Everyone did. Google made a great browser and it gets better all the time.

All I'm saying is that FF is not fading into obscurity or irrelevancy, it's actually picking up steam lately (IBM).

I guess, IBM feels like this is the most safe/secure/robust and reliable choice overall and I agree. That doesn't sound like something that is past it's prime, that sounds like aged wine.

It's just an overall solid browser with the highest degree of customization out of all of them.

In all those benchmarks recently, it was quite a bit slower, it's true. So I wait 1 more second for FF to launch or something, but it's not a deal breaker.

I would like to see Google improve as well as FF. They are both open source software, and they share ideas and code for the benefit of all. They aren't patenting ideas and shit. They even flat out said, "please use our ideas to improve your browsers."

So I don't know why you say things like FF stole an idea from Chrome or whatever. You don't want Firefox to be improved, or what? What's it matter?

Google just wants people on the web, and they want them to feel safe to click on ads and things without worrying or being taken over by some malware. They aren't really competing with the other browsers, they just wanted to make an easy to use, stable and secure browser. They actually don't care if you use Firefox or Chrome or Internet Explorer, as long as you are online.

Well, no. If people start using Chrome, they're more likely to try Chrome OS, which I think very definitely they'd love.

Anyway, ordinarily I'd try new things, like Chrome a couple of years ago, for instance. But trying old things seems kinda backward. I moved to Chrome back when it was in its infant years. Yeah, it was buggy, and I had a hell of a time with the Report Bug feature. But I stayed with it because I could feel its speed and it always seemed light. Since then, it's grown incredibly usable, and I still love it.

I've often tried to convince people to switch, which seems lightly ironic after I spent so long trying to get people to use Firefox. Anything except Internet Explorer, I suppose, which even after so many years is still god awful.

But Firefox left me with a somewhat bad taste in my mouth. It saved me from the horror of IE6, and provided me with some awesome plugins, but it was still too slow sometimes, clogging up entirely at times, requiring a clearing of the temp folder. So I just cba atm, which I'm somewhat disappointed at.

I find it funny that the people who complained about the higher tabs in Chrome will probably be the ones with no clue how to change their settings. That'll keep me grinning for a bit.

Have no idea what is up with this latest beta, 6.0.472.11, but it seems to be doing some neat "load page, then load images" thing, which makes it seem as though sites appear instantly.

I tried taking the Canary dev for a test run but was a bit turned away that I could not default it, and the final 5 version seems to be lacking the spiffiness of the betas.

i was a faithful ff user for years and only recently switched to chrome. it just seems...lighter.
