Ok, i got 3DSMax 6, fired it up, followed a gun skinning tutorial, and the gun sucked, but i learnt the different objects and stuff. So i removed the first one, and found my own gun to model. The Thompson.

here is what i was able to accomplish. Keep in mind. This wasnt done with a tutorial, so its my first self-made model.

any feedback is appreciated, especially if its positive

i myself have just done my first skin 2 :) (look on other thread) and i know it is quite hard for the first time, i think it looks great for a first skin the only thing i would say if i had to is that maybe its abit low-res/stretched? but well done it look nice :D

Very nice. Better than my third attempt you have potential to become a great 3D person. Just wait until IchI gets here. :p

lmfao, Nar seriously. Its very good for his first model. He has modelled it quiet acuratly and also skinned it, I still havn't skinned any of my models to this day :( also it looks like he has handled extruding faces well :p The only thing that could be improved but u will proberly try this on your next gun or model, is to make the edges less edgey a good example of where u have used this is on the guns handle (the thing on the barrel)

So lets all give him a bit clap :D

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Thanks guys *sniff*, ur are all so pretty. Have a round on me.

And yeh, i notice most of u spotted my shitty handle. I have a vandetta against Splines for that shit that it screwed up.

Luckily i did better for my second one. Its a silver/black deagle, and the only real poo poo i can spot is the dodgy skin quality. And i also need some help with my lighting in the renders, it always goes too dark or too weird. Any help with that is awsome.

thanks again guys. ill keep trying :borg:

what res are the skinds in? they seem VERY low... try 512x512 at least

but keep up the good job :)

800 x 600

sorry bout the pic, its shit quality cause my original render was too big. So i am now making a website to make it easier to view all my models and stuff.

it wont be awsome site, cause i suck at photoshop, even tho im using Paint Shop Pro, which is l33ter than photosuck.

anyway, it'll still suck

but, ill try to get a better render later. After i made my site :)

nice model! u model that? if so good job. the skin is very low res but u already talked about that :p btw photoshop 0wnz paint shop pro :dork: lol

lol, sif. i guess i just suck at photocarp ;)

anyway, i made my site. nothing special, should be up soon though. Check here: www.geocities.com/random_implosion/

this should work soon. i have to transfer files from my pc to this laptop cause my pc aint on the net.

lol, i think some of u misunderstand, i made the "MODEL", not the "SKIN". The skin is just a random image off of the net that someone took of a gun. Which is why its poor quality, and when i said the skins were 800x600, i actually meant my rendered shots. Hope this clears things up a bit.

SITE IS UP. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK..... please?

hehe

its best viewed in the res just above 1024x768 cause thats wat i made it in. So some of the stuff is a little off the side unless u do.

anyway. all my renders are there. and i think the site looks ok.

i also noticed that my thompson renders are 640x480 and the deagle renders are 800x600. Which is why they look different.

EDIT: In case u missed it, heres the URL: http://www.geocities.com/random_implosion/

ill go get a .cjb.net address, its easier :cheese:

Lol, ok, ill stop spammin this thread after this post

i got the cjb address, and its as follows: www.mindashole.cjb.net

i will be fixing the resolution problem shortly

MINDA, your models look good and solid, but they look like guns for a RTS game(i blame the texture atm) try giving us some renders without texture, and then make your own texture. Then i'll be impressed.
Besides, i think you'd learn a lot more if you used a few more polys to begin wtih :)

GJ

Wats a poly?

but seriously, my first attempt. ill make the next one cooler :afro:

i really do suck with photoshop or paint tho. so u think i should just make models with no skins?

i spose. and if u go to my site u can see my deagle model unskinned. i like it better than the skinned ones personally, but oh well.

a poly: uhm, it is the squares/triangles whatever, that the model consist of.

thompson looks ok.. but the de has no depth.. just looks like you drawn round a pic and extruded it :/

well, thats what i have been doing.

im not that great yet. but ill take some more tutorials, and learn how to smooth and stuff. :sniper:

Next step would be to use bevel instead of extrude to give a more rounded look. Good ratio: quality/polygons though :) Do you have any wireframe renders so we could give you more specific advices?

yeh, here is one, its a new one, i have also updated my site with my newest deagle model, its unskinned and the barrel and the left side of the handle's grip is also rounded a little by using "Editable Poly > Polygon" and then cutting and moving the vertexes.

i dunno any other ways, if anyone can help me, please add me to ur msn, [email protected]

ok, cause like, everyone was getting annoyed with the jaggies on my models

i decided to have a go at fixing it. and i fix a half of the handle, cut in half, and mirrored on the other side of the gun. i admit, it kinda looks a little fudged but, looks better than it did before. and i smoothed the rest of the gun over. im gonna keep working on it. but for now. here is a new render:

danke, anything else that u can see that needs fixing?

I keep on working on my model. So i added some cool stuff too it. I know its not that awsome. But my friends think its cool, so i decided to post it here for you guys.

looks good MINDA, u are progressing well. Soon u will become a jedi :D

I'd like to thank me, for being so awsome.... and.... ummm..... thats it.

lol

Cheers Ichi. I was hoping you would reply. Ur so cool :afro:. Im just a geek :dork:.

hehe.

UPDATE: Just thought i'd post, the model of the gun, is 11,000 polygons. I dunno if that is good or not. I just had a look, and it was a big number :p

Cheese and crackers! 11,000 polygons?!!!? :rolling:  :rolling:  :rolling:
Hope your not going to put this in a mod. :) It will overload the system 'mano. :) :p ;)
Good work so far. I wish I could model a deagle like that.

this is just a model that i made, not for a game or anything. its just a model. im gonna keep adding stuff to it. like, in the background and stuff. here is my latest one on a table.
