There, he was the biggest skeptic ever. So that's saying a lot.

i feel the same way ... htis game is blowing my mind ...

Its a VERY great game...But I think they called it half-life because half-life has a lot to do with nuclear science.
Half-Life is actually measuring half of the life of the radioactive substance. Since Gordon is supposedly a scientist, and the game has radioactive materials in it, thats why I think they named it Half-Life....And the Lambda is a symbol having to do with nuclear reactions...It's also the greek letter for L...

I LOVE this game...i'm such a fanboy :E

I just can't wait for the full SDK release, though...man, i've got some ideas for stuff to do on the source engine. I'm thinking about making a series of "interactive movies" or something like that. IDK, but i've really gotta beat this game (i've been playing it in about 2-3 hour intervals due to school). I've heard that the ending is great, btw, so i can't wait to see that.

Today in luch, my friend told me I should take a break from HL2. I quickly snapped back "NO WAY!!"

Half-Life I believe is the waste of the uranium rods from nuclear power plants, or after an atomic bomb has gone off, I can't remember which one.

" the time required for something to fall to half its initial value (in particular, the time for half the atoms in a radioactive substance to disintegrate) "

bliink, when did you become a mod? good job.

My first impressions were... dissapointment, i mean the disk cover is pretty lame, it looks like a burnt orange. Also, no manual??? not that i realy read them, but still.... i want a damn manual.
Then onto installing, registering, and unlocking. Great fun that was. It took over an hour to get the damn thing going, ok so valve servers were overloaded... but they should have been prepared!!

BUT then, i arrived at city 17, and my hl2 love affair began. What an awesome game. A totaly convincing world, charictors and dialogue, the way the combine react to your presence, and you looking where you shouldnt. (how many people spent the first 10 mins just throwing stuff at them? :p )

I played about 3 hours straight the fisrt time i loaded it up, and my one and only dig, is the long loading times. (poss just my machine)
Im up to Nova prospekt now, im scared to play on, if i complete it to soon the waiting for HL3 will be too much. ;(

Personally I am not overly impressed with being able to pick up a bike and throw milk cartons, sure as a novelty it made me smile for the first 10 seconds.. but physics in all games has come on so much in the last few years that it really feels "nothing new".
A couple of things so far (before I gave up playing until there is a patch) that I did think were "cool" were the glass effects (refraction etc) on the doors in the first building where you make a rooftop escape. The characters turning to you and their eyes and expressions look real (again not overly amazing - but them I have been gaming since 1980 and am geting jaded more and more by tech gimmicks) also their face textures make them look like they all have some skin disease (low res and dirty)- the water's dynamics (though not the look of it - you can see tiny ripples repeated - just like old unreal one type water) obv it is way better than that but I still think far crys water looks better (though doesn't act as well - or the objects in it). The city generally looks good but is neither highly detailed on the inside (aka doom 3) or expansive and "mindblowing" on the outside (aka far cry).
Couple more things I do not like is the very linear and scripted action, seeing the exact same moves over and over again with no sense of freedom is a lot further than far crys (not perfect) but more random enemies.

The player camera seems stiff and unrealistic- like skating.. (where is the weapon bob???? - is there an hidden option for this?)

The general geometry is no way as awe inspiring as the initial reviews led me to believe. They are good but no more than other modern shooters. From a distance some of the textures look great and are well detailed, but as we just know they are textures on building shaped boxes (most with no inner interactive or geometric detailing) they all seem as fake as other blander shooters. Don't get me wrong this is a definate top game, I have been spoiled by Far cry and Doom3 - both of these games are, apparently by popular opinion - "not up to the standards" of HL2, but I disagree - I had MANY "WOW" moments in those two games, where I just wanted to BE in the environment, taking as much time over things as I wanted.. in my 5 or so hours of playing HL2 (again before the stuttering got beyond annoying) I had a couple of minor "thats cool, I apreciate that but it's not mindblowing" kind of moments - I know there is a lot to come in HL2 that will make my opinion grow in favour of it, I really want to play it (from the start again with the patch) but it was overrated ( in the same way D3 and FarCry were) - difference is those other two games have a good feel and a soul to them, HL2 so far seems like I'm a camera with a gun being shoved down the paths the game (or AI) forces me to, the set pieces are so obviously one trick ponies that they never suprise or excite (me). If I had come to this game without reading any reviews or having played any recent/decent shooter, and without the problems it has at the moment (the stuttering/long load times) I would probably have been a lot more into it.

This is just my honest opinion - and it may change - so no flames please ;)

omg, nerd alert! you could at least get the definition right: the period, called “radioactive half-life”, is a time period that at the end of which a given quantity of a radioactive substance loses spontaneously half of its radioactivity.

but then thats beside the point. Congrats & welcome to a whole new level of geek-dom.

I remember when I showed my friend this game, who plays nothing but PS2 games, and he was like "OMG?!! is that a game??". He said he had never seen such crisp graphics ever before. He even thought that it still look better, even after I showed him Doom 3.
