First Left 4 Dead TV Spot

We are complaining because EA are the ****ing hogs that slap their big label right at the beginning when it's clearly Valve's game and they did all the hard work.

A friend of mine is a board game creator. It's a hell of a sweaty and hard work, creating the mechanics, finding the right illustrator, playtesting, writing the manuals, and so on. When he is so lucky to find a publisher, his name is barely visible on the back of the printed manual. The game is in the stores as a "game by *publisher-name*". The entertainment industry works this way.

But Valve are an independant developer, and a lot of their sales are via Steam, so EA shouldn't be hogging the limelight as much.

You are right, but as an independent company I don't think that Valve alone would have the money to carry on this huge advertising campaign, neither would Valve have the know-how to do it the right way, in my humble opinion. Electronic Arts is giving money and marketing experience.

Valve have money alright.

They might not have inhouse marketing experts (or few) but they could always hire an agency.

You're talking about a single person, Valve on the other hand is a large company.

There are a lot of people who trust EA. If the logo generates more sales for Valve, good for them.

But who can pick another publisher when the current deal ends if EA don't keep them happy.

This, basically.

Stop crying for VALVe, they're big boys and they know what they're doing.
EA is a familiar face and if gamers who worship EA products see the logo... they'll, sadly, be more inclined to buy it.

edit: Considering hardly any mainstream console gamers would even know who VALVe is.

Man you fools, I understand that EA is helping Valve get laid in the marketing business, and I'm happy for that. My complaint is just about the big fat fatty fat EA logo right in the beginning, like "Hey guyzzz, we made dis game!"

Eh eh, let Valve count the money! I'm sure they don't give a damn about logos. And, guys, let's face it: only hard-core gamers hate EA for whatever reason (DRM, they never have a bath, they are evil and so on). Mainstream gamers praise EA because every f****g good game is published by them :)

While EA would have insisted on putting their logo in the ad, Valve had a choice. They chose to devote the 1/2 second on more ad content.

Yeah, that's annoying, but honestly barely any one would recognize their logo, especially over EA's.

I just don't care. As long as they make awesome games and have enough of a following for me to play with (and without ten thousand retards teabagging ragdolls) they can advertise however they'd like.

If Valve don't get their name out there, it'll never get the credibility it deserves.
