"The latest issues of OPM and Xbox World Magazine had reviews of Resident Evil 5. Both claimed to have the first. Highlights:

-There are files and diaries about the early history of Umbrella.

-Like other reviews they both say real-time item management is a total hassle for an action game.

-With online, pressing pause only pauses your player's movement. The game will carry on and enemies will still attack you.

-If your online buddy hasn't unlocked a certain weapon you cannot give him it or its ammunition.

-The friendly fire option was apparently scrapped. Shooting your partner will still send them into a "flinch" animation and stop them from firing but they will not lose health.

-Both players must press the skip cutscene button for it to skip. At the shop screen where you select your loadout, one player pressing confirm will activate a 60-second countdown for the other player to finish up.

-Each chapter has its own online leaderboard for completion times and rank awarded. A good rank will unlock a figurine.

-A records screen keeps track of your hit/miss ratio for each weapon, your deaths, enemies defeated and more.

-There is a level select menu.

-Mercenaries co-op is unlocked at the end of the game.

-A "History of Resident Evil" section contains detailed profiles of everything that appears in the game.

-Josh was Sheva's mentor.

-When Sheva is AI controlled she will shout out hints that tell you how to progress to the next level.

-Screens show Sheva facing four Lickers at once, on her own, during one of the mandatory split-up moments.

-The last quarter of the game has you facing mostly Majini armed with guns, including AK74s. The contextual cover system is heavily prevalent in this section.

-You cannot manage items when in cover.

-In the later sections the "ethnically diverse" Majini disappear.

-Regarding the final boss battle, the reviewer says "The final encounter is a huge disappointment. Don't worry, I won't spoil it for you, but it's meant to be a massively important battle that definitively brings certain parts of Resident Evil's story arc to a close. But the frustrating difficulty and the fact that it's almost impossible to work out what you're meant to be doing makes for a crushing finale that's a joy to see the back of for all the wrong reasons."

OPM gave the game 8/10 and Xbox World gave it 81%."

I hope this hasn't already been posted.

The scores are what I expected it to be, considering it seemed to be more of a RE4.5 than a RE5.

Is Jill dead for real?

Sorry to piss anyone who feels differently off, but I haven't enjoyed any of the RE games since 1 and 2, when zombies were still shufflers and not those weird virus things. This doesn't look very good to me, gameplay-wise.

Meh, the only RE game i played was 4 and it was shit. I can't see why people love it so much. There is no horror in it at all and it's just a crude 3rd person zombie shooter. Resident Evil is over hyped.

I loved 4 by an obscene degree. Would easily be in my top 5 for the last generation. But from what I've seen and played of 5 so far feels like Resident Evil 4 made by Epic's b-team.

qft. Loved RE4, hated the others. Couldn't stand waiting and watching a damn door open between every room. Moving around just took forever.

That's a good score! I'm still very excited for this game, though it's a shame we're in for yet another disappointing finale -- Saddler kind of sucked in RE4.

I'm very much in the middle of the Resident Evil debate. I loved Resi Remake, having never played the first one, and I enjoyed 2 and the further installments of Nemesis and Code Veronica. Yes, the gameplay is critically flawed and cumbersome, but it was mostly forgiveable at the time. As the series progressed, there was a clear reluctance to actually change or improve the formula, and instead of a natural progression, they decided to scrap the whole thing and start over. Enter Resident Evil 4. For my money, it is not a Resident Evil game; but it is an excellent third person shooter. It's ****ing sublime.

I haven't played the RE5 demo, I'm expecting more white-knuckle awesome.

I'm kind of the opposite, I really enjoyed the first Resident Evil games but got a bit bored with RE4 after a while (I thought it was too linear and missed having to explore). Now I'm just bored of Resident Evil period. :)

Aw shame for resi not to get the huge scores as usual but to be fair it deserves no more than an 8 judging from the demo and the fact that it is more of the same.

Interested about this last boss bit now though.

I agree with Samon.

Holy shit.

RE4 was my number one game of all time, so you can imagine how excited I am for this game. But goddamn do I hate the inventory system. It's designed very poorly, and does not fit the game well at all.

Not long now.

I'd like a return to the horror roots of the original with RE4 controls, but still won't pass up on RE4 in co-op. If RE5 played with a mate isn't awesome i'll eat my hat.

qft. I couldn't stand 4 it felt like it dragged on forever. The story and voice acting was decent, but nothing that kept me around to play it past 15 hours. I miss the actual puzzles, atmosphere and exploration of the originals. 4 instead feels like a bunch of kill rooms connected by puzzles that are so easy, one look at them and any dumbass has it figured out within a couple of minutes. I still have fond memories of 2 and 3 though.

Couldn't have said it better (although I only really played 2 and CV).

It's designed with coop in mind, obviously. I'm not sure how anyone can think the old inventory system would work in this, and I can't really think of another system that would do it as well. It's simplified by necessity.

Also, mercenaries coop? Oh ****ing hells yes.

I was never really into the RE games, but busting around in the RE5 Demo with my brother was sufficiently amazing. I love co-op games, and this one seems like it could be really adrenaline-pumped.

RE4 was good the first time through, but it had absolutely no replay value, not even for the uber weapon's.

So long as a game is excellent on the first run -- arguably the most memorable experience -- what does it matter?

I loved the old Wesker's Report that shipped with Code Veronica:X, it ruled.<3

Video brings back lots of memories. My favourite RE games are: RE2 (which is best title in the series), and Gun Survivor (I know, it's terrible).

I don't understand why people try to find any logic in Resident Evil's plot/game. It's no more than a zombie shooter, there's no story, no connection between games, and no characters. People buy them because of good gameplay (shooting/puzzles), and visual elements. Capcom's combination/formula worked (for them, and RE clones) since 90's, and will probably continue to work.

Original Silent Hill (on PS One) beats the shit out of all Resident Evil games.
