Hey guys.

A few years ago I purchased Half-Life 2 from Steam because I'd heard great things, and started playing, but ultimately gave up upon hitting a point where I had saved but run out of ammo.

Fast forward to a week ago, I got the urge to play again, but figured I'd start at the beginning and shelled out 10 bucks for the first one. I'm now currently at Surface Tension, and loving it, but I have a bit of a problem.

I'm saved when the Apache helicopter flies overhead, with very little ammo and health, and no way to get more. I figured I might pop in some cheat codes into the console, just to get some more ammo so I don't have to start over, but I'm having trouble.

See, I read and re-read how to activate and enter the codes, but even with Steam having the console activated, whenever I enter the cheat codes (other than thirdperson and firstperson, which seem to work fine) I get an invalid command message. Anyone have any ideas on what I could do?

Thanks a ton.

EDIT: On further review, I may have posted this in the wrong forum. I apologize.

Just what cheat codes are you using? I believe the right code to get ammo/guns is Impulse 101.

Edit: Also be sure to put "Sv_cheats 1" in the console before using any cheats.

You must enter "sv_cheats 1" (without quotes) before entering commands such as "god" for infinite health. I don't recommend impulse 101 as that would reveal some of the weapons you may not have acquired yet.

As a note though, I'm pretty sure the sv_cheats command only takes effect after the next map load. So, you should activate it before you load your save, or reload the save.

I did enter the sv_cheats 1, and then tried using the codes. Entering them with / before (like most of the websites say) gives me an invalid entry error, entering them without the /, while not giving me an error, doesn't seem to do anything at all.

I've also tried doing the sv_cheats 1 and then re-loading my save, which doesn't do anything either, that I've noticed.

You don't use a /

After you activate sv_cheats, reload your game and THEN enter the god cheat.

Ah HA! That worked wonders.

Thanks very much Vegeta and Silver, you've been a huge help.

I'll let you know how I like the rest of the game :)

Edit: Although Impulse 101 still doesn't seem to do anything, but God mode works, and that's good enough for me!

For ease you might want to put "-dev -console" after your shortuct's path (outside the quotes). That would activate the cheat mode when the game starts, "-dev" runs sv_cheats 1 automatically. Then, impulse 101 should work, but if you don't want to spoil your fun, don't use it.

Happy Half-Life gaming. :)
