First US PS3 Commercial

It actually makes me want to kill myself. It was all dark and gloomy.

Way to go Sony!

*Suddenly wants a PS3*

Wait....no I don't! (At least not because of that commercial :D). I really can't even imagine what they were thinking. It seems custom made to make videogames look trivial by comparison.

Now that I thought about it for a second, isnt this commercial telling us that its more fun to stand on a rooftop wearing a backpack than to play the PS3?

So aliens are bringing the PS3 to our rooftops?

WTF Sony?

I think if Sony started giving away free money people on this forum would still complain about it

As far as the ad goes ... fairly unimpressive but it might help to build hype amongst people who don't really follow games and didn't even know it was coming out soon, which is what it clearly seems designed to do.

I think you're right, Scott. Sony has such a large fanbase that it just needs to get the hype ball rolling and they're set. The truth of things is, it's the people who don't follow games and consoles that do most of the spending, and it's these that make or break a console. While many of us have been less than impressed with Sony over the last 6-12 months or so (they really have made dropping the ball into an art form), it really makes little difference - we make up a tiny %.

I'm not trying to suggest that the PS3 won't be worth buying (i'll end up with one at some point), but the sad truth is it'll sell well regardless of how good the hardware is, the early lineup, and how shit their adverts are.

Wow...they need to fire the people who made their ads. What I got from the ad was that their target audience is kids. Of course they're not gonna have money for it! But its also a good idea because like all little kids without money, they ask their parents. :naughty: There are a whole bunch of Euro ads too but they are wayy too long to put on tv. There is another though that is very much demeaning to the consumer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Bqq38WZctA&mode=related&search= It shows the consumer as a weirdo who plays video games all the time. Its almost like Sony has turned into a Tom Cruise! :x

What the hell.

In Sony Land, clearly people who don't keep up to date with computers/games are gullable idiots who won't remember this sh**ty ad when making the all important buy decision.

What a wonderful place, where the ps3 is competitively priced, wii a clear ripoff, and europe does not exist.

There would be a triplicated contract which would involve signing over the rights to your soul, which you sign by accepting the money or indeed saying 'sony' or 'money' out loud.

That commercial might have been the worst thing I've ever seen, it's like Children of the Corn mixed with War of the Worlds

Also, anyone noticed how all the people looked like they were about 10? Kinda shows the audience that would consider buying a PS3 :|

lol that is one wierd ps2 commercial. do people not make commercials that acctually show the product anymore??

OMFG. They used Brian Eno's song. In a shit way. Which makes that ad even worse.

Goddamn Sony.

11.17.2006 the wait is over?? I would say the wait begins with the massive shortage...
Plus, Sony is letting the robbers know who are the persons they should target (small teenagers alone with backpacks) because all those kids don’t have credit cards and are going to be loaded with a least 1000$ cash each, hmmmmmm………… :D

Why are Sony targeting the advert at the people least likely to have the money for a PS3?

How many parent will go into a game store, ask for a PS3, only to die of heart failure when they get told the price. Then buy the Wii for their kid instead.

And is it me, or does the slogan seem to have a sub-meaning: "Ha to Europe".

"The wait is over.

Except for you cockf**s in Europe! Maybe next time you'll think twice before we don't care about you!"

Please tell me the creators of the above ads were on cocaine of LSD when they thought those up.

/sarcasm
wtf?!? Sony Pedostation?

I guess they don't have much to show on the games side of things... everyone loves kids though right? I mean they are the ones who will be shelling out $600 for the ps3 an all....

"sony playstation 3... we have candy, get in the van.. 11/17/06"

/sarcasm

or are those all the kids whos parents didnt get a preorder and are now lining up to collectively jump off of their roofs?

I think their trying to guilt us into buying them

"If you don't get a PS3, this child's puppy will die. You like puppies don't you?"

Wow ... just wow...

It's only a commercial designed to generate hype people, it's not like they insulted your mothers.

This thread reminds me of the one about from about a month ago that criticised Sony for their PS3 remote controller.

It is, nonetheless, a bad commercial.

And it's perfectly alright to criticize the aesthetics of a remote, just as you can criticize the aesthetics of a PS3 itself. You look at the PS3 just as much as you look at the remote or the controllers. It doesn't matter much how they look, but they should at least keep a consistent style.

Sony has had some terrible marketing recently.

Sony must lose this gens console war because..umm..i say so!

Crappy, commercial. I agree.

They were waiting for Aliens, not ****ing PS3's to fall from the sky with tiny parachutes.

Jesus its just an ad. I can think of far worse ads on telivision. And if that was a Wii ad I'm sure most people wouldn't be saying shit.

It didn't look like a TV ad until the end. More of a short music video for the song. hehe
Although it probably would stand out among all the other TV ads as someone is watching TV, so maybe people would notice.

It makes sense for a movie theater audience since they usually show damn commercials anyway. :sniper:

I thought it was about getting your stuff together for a night waiting in line with friends at the local game/electronics store. Oh well. People are going to buy it or not regardless of this ad. It sort of belongs in the 'Who cares?' territory....

What the **** is a Wii?

Is that some stupid nickname for the Nintendo Revolution?

If Sony was giving away free money, they would of found a way to get 10 times more money back.

:| I DEMAND my 70 seconds back.....

edit: Oh, and that like some have already said, that last line "The wait is over"....are you taking the piss!?!?!......talk about a slap in the face to us Europeans

Very true, if someone made a topic stating "PS3 uses standard 2 pronged plug" you'd have 20 people insulting them for being bandwaggon hoppers and being completely unoriginal.

If someone didn't know any better and just read the average response to console related topics on this forum, you'd think the head of Sony personally raped everyones sister.

The topic debating the merit of the ****ing DVD remote is my personal favorite, this one isn't too bad either.

"Jesus Christ ... that television commercial wasn't anything too special ... **** Sony, WATCH THEM FAIL!"

It's just silly. There is plenty of room for criticism on pricing, delays, even marketing ... but when you see people jumping at things like remote controllers and television ads it's obvious they're not actually thinking logically but rather jumping on any chance they can find to randomly insult something because apparently they don't plan on buying it.
