anything thats an flv type like youtube, news streams, dailymotion, etc etc, INFACT sound in general associated with flash just doesn't seem to work on my computer anymore

i've read around various sources and they've recommended copying registry entries and stuff to get the sound going again, or download k-lite codec pack or whatever it is but so far NOTHING has helped

as far as i know and remember, i've done NOTHING to trigger it. literally one day, i came to use me computer one day, loaded a youtube video up and the sound was out and i've not been able to get it going again

any ideas?

Have you tried reinstalling Flash? Uninstall it first, don't just re-run the installer. Be careful when messing with the registry. Each version of Windows differers slightly and you can really mess up your system.

yeah i've tried uninstalling, restarting, reinstalling about 3 times now and no change. its really pissing me off because nearly everything flash thats worthy has audio and i'm not getting any so its crippled my internet useage

Yes this fails. Have you tried on different browsers? Firefox uses a different plugin then IE.

This may sound pretty stupid to you, but I've got to ask; to rule out all possibilities:
Have you checked your sound card and its driver, S-Card control panel; to see if anything is turned off?
Tried cleaning browser cache, history, and cookies?
Cleaned Temp user/internet files?
Reboot system?
Restore system by System Restore?

What Else :upstare:. Oh! Did you check the speakers by playing any sound file or checking speakers and speaker wires.

Sometimes, something as silly as unplugged wire may take you to Mayhem-land.

Good Luck.

Do this, and I think it will solve your issues.

Uninstall Flash player completely (get the uninstaller off of Adobe's site).
Install Flash 10 RC ( http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html )

Flash 10 solves a lot of the bugs that Adobe has in Flash that people have been experiencing lately.

If that doesn't work, check the flash settings to make sure nothing will conflict with audio, check Windows Update for any major updates, and then also check for updated sound drivers.

If none of that works, then I'm not sure.

cheers for the advice guys but i fixed it. think it was just some spyware or viruses that were knackering it up cos it started going again after i did the virus scan

Are you on Vista?

If so, do you have UAC on? That should in most cases protect you from spyware or viruses installing itself on your machine since you would have gotten a prompt to allow or deny the spyware from a site.

Go and install AVG Free as well. It works wonders.

Also Avira AntiVirus [also free] is supposed to be even better. I used AVG for years but 2008 version became bloated. I've been using Avira for a while.
