flashlight looking strange

The flashlight looks strange on some materials in my Half life 2.
It looks like the light is coming from the wrong direction at some places. And at some places you don't sea no light at all on the material.

This problem started when I upgraded my graphics card last week.
The old one was a nvidia 5900 and the new one is a Nvidia 6800GT.

when I use mat_dxlevel from the console and set it to 81 the problem is no longer there. Other games run with no problem so I think thet harware is working okay. but when I run source games like half life source and halflife 2 I get the problem.

I have the latest Nvidia drivers installed and directx 9.0c and the card is not getting to hot.

I hope some one can help me out on this one.

I will attach some screen shots to show the problem in game. And one in directx level 8.1 that looks okay.

1023MB ram
windows xp Pro sp2.
asus p4g8x deluxe motherbourd.
450Watt power supply.

weird, yeah, i noticed that too but didn't really mind it too much. so with dx81 it works better than 90?

you're sure you have the very latest official drivers serge? 71.84 i think.

Yes I have the latest drivers from Nvidia's website installed and the latest directx.

The reply from steam support I got the told me to reset my video setting and remove al old drivers from my old card.

the reset video settings dit not fix the problem.

And I think my old drivers are the same as for my new card there is only one driver pack for all Nvidia cards on the site.

Is it possible that my directX is the problem?

It's not best to always update to the newest driver if you don't have an issue. Search on the web, you should be able to find Nvidia's previous driver version to dl.

Hmm, that looks like an evil bug. Have you considered E-Mailing Valve's tech support?

Valve's tech support? Is that not the support on steampowered.com?

I tried some more to fix the problem last night. I removed directx with xplite tool removed all the graphics drivers then re installed directx and graphics drivers
but that did not fix the problem so the only thing I can think of to try is to re install XP itzelf. Is there a possebilety that a clean install can fix it?

Are there tools that can check the memory en stuff on the graphics card?
So I can check if all hardware is working good. I don't think its hardware other games work fine. But still I wood like to check it.

ive got a xp2800+, 1 gig, nforce2, and a 6800GT and I'm having the same issues.
every driver I try has the same problem.

Start > Run > DXDiag (make sure 'Check for WHQL latest drivers' is ticked)
