this is awesome!

A jetBlue flight attendant upset because a passenger refused to apologize after accidentally striking him with luggage, allegedly spewed obscenities over the PA system, then activated and slid down a planeâ??s emergency chute before disappearing into a terminal at John F. Kennedy airport Monday, an airport official said.

Slater demanded an apology from the passenger, the official said, but the passenger refused. The two argued before the passenger told Slater to â??fâ?? offâ?, the official said. The official said that Slater then got on the planeâ??s PA system and directed that same obscenity at all the passengers and added that he especially meant it for the man who refused to apologize.

Slater is alleged to have then activated the planeâ??s inflatable emergency slide, grabbed two beers from the galley, then slid down the chute, the official said.

haha now that's how you make an exit

If a customer for any business is being a douchebag I think you should have the constitutional right to tell them to **** off.

He has that right. They also have the right to fire him for it.

I think the police were involved only because of the way he got off the plane. Probably violated airport safety laws.

@nolimit - this

Who the hell needs someone making a a difficult job more difficult.

"F*ck you, f*ck you, f*ck you, you're cool, f*ck you, I'm out!"

I can't wait 'til I get a job I hate so that one day I can make an exit like this.

Ohhh sooooooo difficult. Sitting down, standing up, pushing a cart, sitting down again. Must be hell.

It's hell if you're a guy.

America seems homophobic as it is.

I don't understand any of the three lines in your post.

He's lucky he didn't hurt anyone with deploying that slide....

Would've been nice to have been on that plane to witness their dispute. The passenger should have just apologized to the flight attendant instead of argue with him like they were both two little kids.

"You hit me, apologize!"

"No, you were in my way!"

"NO YOU!"

^ But I might say, forcing someone to apologize to you after "hitting" (bumping?) you with luggage even if he didn't want to is plain childish. It's not that he spilled his drink over his shirt or something.

I feel awkward when a flight attendant is a guy because female flight attendants are norotriously hot and I feel as though the guy is taking up a hotness slot. When I was on a domestic flight in India I saw one of the most attractive women I've ever seen in person as a flight attendant.

Interesting to see how someone can just snap like that.

You clearly dont know what youre talking about.

My cousin was an air hostess for Emirates about 5 years ago. She was with them for 4.

The sheer amount of ***t they go through is borderline inhumane.

All the ***t from passengers is a given. Then youve got jetlag, constant flight changes, feeling like you live in hotels etc.

But the worst I found was this; when she started, she was given 2 uniforms of the same size. A size 4 and another size 4 (funnily enough, the uniform style of Emirates have pretty much been left unchanged even today). She was a size 6. She was told if she didnt fit into the uniform, she couldnt work, as they would not re-issue another uniform unless it was an emergency, and even then it would be of the same size.

So she went through the emotional turmoile of being forced to lose weight, being forced to live on a diet all the time to maintain her figure. She couldnt smoke, she couldnt drink, she had to have perfect nails, she had to have perfect skin and perfect makeup. Every flight attendant gets inspected before leaving their waiting rooms and walking onto the plane. This doesnt always happen when in different airports, but it happens every time they left Dubai International.

She went through ***t, got treated like ***t by passengers and got paid an almost average salary.

And think about it, we sit on a plane and watch films or just sleep, or try and hit on the girl sat next to you. They sit in the back and do pretty much nothing the whole flight, especially night flights. They arent allowed to rotate naps, they cant sleep at all, they sit and talk, read books, do crosswords, and attend to anyone who dings them. Well..some flights, depends on the airline.

She said she felt like death when she did a Dubai-London-Singapore-Sydney-Singapore-London-Dubai schedule once. London to Sydney is pretty much a 24 hour flight, and you cant sleep as an attendant.

You try doing her job.

And her father is a Pilot currently flying with Oman Air, but he's flown with BA, Malaysian Airways and Cathay Pacific (still my favourite airline to date). You would not believe some of the stories he has told me about what goes on during a flight and nobody on the plane being any wise about it. If I were to tell you the amount of times planes land with only 3 of 4 engines running, you would never fly again. Its scary stuff listening to what pilots go through. And they have so much responsibility its insane. Every time you're sat there on the deck waiting just to taxi, tutting away and moaning about why its taking so long, its because there is a frigging laundry list of checks each pilot has to legally go through, and if just one is wrong in any way, we sit there until it's done. Getting clearance to taxi and notifying ground control of the route about to be taken are pretty much the main reasons why we're ever delayed.

During a flight though, pilots sit back, play suduko, chat to each other, tell stories, drink coffee etc, and all they really have to do is ensure the autopilot maintains course, and then report to the ground control every 20 minutes of whatever country you're flying over. All the pilot really does is takeoff and land these days, which is half computer controlled anyway.

Alot of male flight attendants are gay. No, seriously.

*bitch snip*

Oh snap! A diet AND dealing with people?! HOWEVER DID SHE SURVIVE?! NO OTHER JOB HAS DRESS CODES OR APPEARANCE RULES LIKE THAT. NO OTHER JOB HAS YOU DEALING WITH *GASP* PEOPLE. The only thing that would make that job suck is the hours. And not because its hard work, but because its lame.

Also, that chick with the signs was one HPOA.

Dealing with the public is bad enough in a part-time job. I've done that. I've worked at Quizno's and been bitched at for no reason many times. I've volunteered as an information desk... person... at the hospital, been nothing but nice and helpful without being obnoxious, and been bitched at for no reason. That was bad enough. It doesn't matter who you are - if you're not a sociopath it will eventually break you down mentally. I can't imagine being trolled by social ingrates for an entire 24 hour flight where I don't get to sleep or show a hint of distaste for perverts or assholes.

On my flight over to Europe one of the attendants was a short porker.

the tip off that it's american is that the airplane is unbalanced

"this is your captain speaking, could flight attendant Sally PLEASE move to the middle of the plane?"

Well Mesa is a tool of a company anyways, seeing that picture doesn"t suprise me, I got some pictures like that showing off holes in engine cowls, etc its very disturbing what planes are allowed to fly now.

Shitty customers make a shitty job worse. I learned from experience, minimum-wage job back during high school. Every since then I have learned to step out of the employee's ways and not push their buttons.

This is interesting, from the Gizmodo comments,
Truman is his defense lawyer.

"But Turman said the incident started when the plane was boarding in Pittsburgh. A "middle-aged woman" upset because she had to check baggage at Pittsburgh was having an argument with another woman over a space in an overhead bin, Turman said.

When Slater tried to calm the situation, the middle-aged woman slammed the bin door shut, hitting him in the forehead.

Turman said she remained agitated during the flight to New York and that when the plane landed, the woman approached Slater and cursed at him, Turman said.

He said Slater walked away, got on the PA system and told passengers what happened and also said he did not get an apology from the woman.

He thanked passengers who showed "dignity and respect," Turman said, then activated the emergency slide. He said, "Thanks for the ride," then exited the plane, Turman said.

An official who requested anonymity because of the ongoing investigation said JetBlue waited more than 25 minutes before contacting the Port Authority about the incident. The airline declined to comment."

So what do you do for work?

Next thing we know, you'll be telling us that you had no idea that Dan rode bicycles, or Stern was a graphics designer, or that Uriel was once a missionary.
