if hl3 comes out on the ps3 or x360 what would it cost to upgrade a PC to compete with the gpu/processor advantage?

kinda getting scared they've got their act together and we're going to be Portville from now on

Not too much probably. Graphics cards for the PC will probably be more powerful than that once the consoles are released. As for the CPU well that will take longer but it will still get to that stage in time.

how would 2 6800ultras change it arent they using the same engine theyve worked so hard on for hl3 but also theres the true power of the source engine and not the low down version were playing right now

hl3 must be lifelike to keep it's place in the best graphics, just look at killzone 2, christ..

A very similar gfx card that is in the Xbox 360 will be released this year by ATI. PC parts are always getting updates and new releases which also means lowering prices. The Consoles may get a slight jump here but the longer these models remain on the market (PS3, Xbox 360) that means the longer the PC market has to establish higher performance.

To answer your question, it would cost a lot right now. Although neither will have the games to take advantage of what they have nor push the technology further for a little while yet.

PC will always be ahead of consoles. Consoles might be on par for a little while each time they release a new generation, but PC advances way faster.

As to what giant said - Source is not nearly at it's full potential yet. They'll keep upgrading.
