Hey! If you have a problem with that bumper sticker you can call 1-800-LEAVE-THE-USA-AND-GO-TO-IRELAND-WHERE-PEOPLE-SUCK.

[Don't highlight]I'm just joking. Just to make sure you all know I harbor no hatred or misconceptions for the Irish. My joke was directed towards the stupidity of the bumper sticker.[me]

lol

If Ghostvalkyrie was here, he would gun down these bastards TO HELL!!!!

[just joking around]

Sure they do, that's just a sad way. :)

Sure they do, and terrorists like to be patriotic with a pound of C4 strapped around their waists. ;)

I consider myself to be patriotic - I've proudly served in the US military and I put my flag outside on special national holidays. But it does get me upset to see the flag displayed like some validation of "I'm more American than you".

In Bill Maher's book "When You Ride Alone, You Ride With Bin Laden", there was an especially good essay entitled "Go Ahead and Put a Flag On Your Car - It's the LEAST You Could Do" and they were damned right, putting a flag on your car is the absolute LEAST you can do to display your patriotism. Especially on your MONSTER SUV - that's great...let me put my American flag on my automobile that keeps the United States dependent on the petrochemicals from the very part of the world that all the trouble stems from.

How about doing something like...oh I don't know...VOTING! You know, taking some time out of your day to actually participate in the political process in a constructive way. Oh wait wait...what am I saying? That would actually require something called SACRIFICE on someone's part - guess we can't do that then because IT'S ALL ABOUT ME.

Furthermore, most of these numbnuts who display the flag HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT PROPER FLAG ETTIQUITE and keep their flag up despite the fact that the thing is sun-washed and faded until the red, white, and blue is a shade of pink, transperant, and black.

I don't mean to get off on a rant here (thank you Dennis Miller) but if you're going to claim to be a patriot then ACT like a patriot and accept both the benefits and responsibilities of patriotism.

I still think the funniest display of patriotism I've ever seen is the song Asshole by Dennis Leary.

Always leaves me in stitches.

That doesn't have anything to do with patriotism...just assholes.

No, he is making fun of misplaced patriotism.

ie. patriotism/wrapped up in the American flag, over-consuming, polluting, racism and whatnot.

Especially when he starts on his John Wayne speech...

Hmm, it must have been a long time since I listened to that song because all I remember the song being about is annoying people that piss him off.

It is, in my geography class we got into a discussion about Israel and it turned into Americas foreign policy, and the teacher asked how many people that will be able to vote will and I was the only one that raised my hand...

people who dont/wont vote have no right to complain. They may be too young to vote but at least they are starting to have some political awareness.

I agree, but most people in my school know nothing about politics. One of my friends asked me to join her anti bush league...she said somthing about how Bush is slaughtering innocent people and somthing about how he is stupid. I asked her what she thinks about the patriot act and she didn't even know what it was, lol.

she wasnt too far from the truth ;)
It doesn't matter though, because she was reading off of a list! Seems like all the non conformist goths have to always dress alike, be liberal and like rock music. Very nonconformist of them :)

Fortunately for her stupidity and a zealot type attitude will get her far in this world...

generalizations aside, some people do have a valid reason to vilify bush
