Hope is not lost! It`s not the best option but I`ve found if you get one of those crappy AOL discs sign up for 2 months free and then cancel after you download on Steam you should be alright. Believe you me, it was a damn relief to get that finished after hours of my college network telling me that I wasn`t going to be able to play.

I cannot believe this is the case.

Well done Valve, you've screwed up already.

I tried going to the AOL website for the free trial, but i dont have any of the Visa/master card/whatever card! This is really frustrating. :flame:

Turns out that http-tunnel doesn't work - gets to 99% updated and stops. Every single time.

Can't get a modem as we don't have phone lines.

Can't take it round to a friends house as everyone is in halls.

Can't take it home as old computer 200 miles away can't take SATA drives.

Admins won't unblock ports.

I wish I could be angry at Valve, but I can't. They're just too good at making games. ;(

I bought it (would rather have downloaded it but couldn't)

It sucks, because the store said I couldn't return Half-Life 2 because "of the content". So I spent £34.99 on a game I can't play in a very long time at least and I can't return to get my money back. Besides why would I want to take it back? I want to play it!

It is really annoying, and yeah like you the admins wont open ports for me. One didn't even know how to!
