Yes, it is possible to play network games with one account, and no it does not have to be in Offline mode.
Here's what I found out.
You cannot play over the network if your computers have unique IP addresses.
What does that mean? It means your computers must be hooked up to a router to be able to network. Steam wants your computers to be 192.168.0.* type, and it won't let you connect otherwise. You also dont need to be in Offline mode, it works perfectly fine normally.
It's a pain but I found that out when I had my LAN party. Next time we can play Goldeneye: Source, woo.
So just thought that would help... for future reference. :cheers:
