Remarkably, the team behind the postapocalyptic themed mod Forsaken has kept a low profile for the past couple of years as they've toiled away on what appears to be not only one of the most graphically impressive but also one of the closest to completion mods out there. We're a day or two late on this one, but they've released some more fantastic looking media - two ingame shots that give us our first look at the HUD, both of which are shown below, and five shots from the just-unveiled map Angel.[br]

[br]The team adds in their news update that they're seeking talented, experienced mappers, modelers, texture artists, and coders, so if you feel you've got what it takes, I'm sure they could use you. For the other four map shots of Angel and a wealth of other information and media about Forsaken, head over to their site. Stay tuned to Halflife2.net for more Forsaken news when we have it - and on time, next time!

Looks grood. I like the "Da Vinci Code" movie poster in the first screenshot. are you guys allowed to do that?

Looks nice. Kinda looks like Soldier of Fortune to me from what I played of that game, the gritty environments mainly. Not saying they will play similar or be remotely close apon completion. Looks great but.

Looks good.
...what I can see that is. Are those the best screenshots you could take?

Yeah. Sadly, the little fairies wouldn't keep still long enough to be included... oh and Santa just doesn't show up on film it seems.

:)

Hah, hadn't spotted that. But isn't Forsaken placed in the future ? Why on earth would there still be Da Vinci Code posters on the walls. Okay, there is a certain hype, but not one that will last another 20 years !

So dark the con of man.

Hmm... it looks great, but the placement of the USP is really bothering me. It looks almost as if it's being fired sideways :/

Otherwise, it's awesome!

I think it's set in 2008, so I suppose it's possible for BIG movies (like the Da Vinci Code and Pirates of the Carribean posters in that screenshot) to still be lingering after two years in some remote subway station.

Err, actually, it takes places in 2008 but the actuall virus struck before then, and nobody bothered to update the posters. Since, you know, 90% of the world is dead.

I can't look at a mod with fingerless gloves on the characters and not think of CS.

I wish people would stop putting fingerless gloves on their characters.

This mod looks so good that maybe soon when you see fingerless gloves in cs and other games, you will think of Forsaken.

Real classy work, the maps look great. Not too convinced about it otherwise though, seems like pretty standard gameplay, capture an area, kill the enemy.

It's a decent point.

Only the governor players have fingerless gloves... the civilian and relgious factions have their own seperate 'hands'. Something to look forwards to ;)

Thanks for the kind words and feedback guys, much appreciated :)

To answer a few of the questions that have been brought up;

Forsaken is set in the year 2009, however the virus struck in 2006 and this is why advertising in Forsaken reflects this.

As for whether or not we are allow to use real movies/companies, well we intend to do so until we are requested not to, if we get asked to remove something we will do so without question, but for the time being it stays in to increase the level of immersion and connection to the real world.

Regarding the fingerless gloves and the connection with CS. Well there is no connection with CS, and if you don't like fingerless gloves for some reason just play one of the other two factions, each faction has it's own hand skin ;)

I feel as though we wasted a chance to get any good questions answered by a dev...

Anyway it looks amazing, glad they kept it under wraps untill they had some good content to show

Well, Forsaken seems to be a lot more open about it's content and progress than most pseudo-commercial mods, so I'm sure Shrill will be back.

We are always around! :) Would be happy to answer questions.

Post-apo with a capturing system; this mod will be closest to ours of all the other ones out there I think.

I like what I'm seeing. Nice hud design (simplistic yet stylish, love it that way; it's best for immersion). I had the same reflex when I saw the weapon, I thought it was a CS import at first even. I like the player models, and the maps look very moody.

Great work so far, keep it up. It'll be fun to see the similarities and differences between two teams that have been working separately for so long on mods in a similar setting and with partly overlapping gameplay (although there are obvious differences).

Will you be crediting Plan Of Attack for the use of their HUD?

The only similarity to POA's HUD is we have a big circle with other little circles around it. Other than that I fail to see the comparison.

We also have elements on the HUD we haven't fully explained yet, and you will see them in action over the coming weeks. And after all this is an alpha HUD - could change at any time to be honest :)
