It's a video that I happen to agree with on many levels.
I've tried to tell numerous thick headed conservatives how I feel about this particular situation, but they simply jump to conclusions about the case and about me and that's all their prone to do.
I tell them that it's a very real possibility that this guy could be a radical Islamist and the reason that he killed was because of his sense of duty to Allah to carry on Jihad. However, I tell them, it's also possible that he was simply an individual who snapped for various reasons and committed heinous murder, even though there are aspects about him such as his Muslim faith that would raise eyebrows.
The simple fact of the matter is, we do not know all the details about this case. We are not investigators, and what we hear from the media cannot give us an accurate representation of the case. What a lot of people are doing however, is they are jumping to conclusions. They are hearing his middle eastern name, and pairing it with the fact that he murdered people, and they are immediately concluding that he is a terrorist. They hear reports, whether true or not that he shouted "Allahu Akbar", and concluding that he is a terrorist, because terrorists say that... ignoring the fact that nearly all Muslims say that, primarily in non violent situations of stress or even joy. It could not possibly be to them that he was simply Muslim, which was not in question, and said something Muslims say in a time of great stress where he knew he was going to die. It had to be Terrorism. There is no other explanation to them.
And in my effort to try and reason with them that it's pointless to declare it to be terrorism without a completed investigation of the facts, what do they do? They tell me that I am a terrorist sympathizer. They tell me that I am excusing Islam for the Murder they cause. It's truly despicable, and people like this honestly do not even deserve to be conversed to if they are going to be so incredibly stupid and careless about such a very serious ordeal where people lost their lives.
I have... absolutely no problem in acknowledging that this was a terrorist act by a radical Muslim if that turns out to be what the investigation concludes. I will accept it, and there is no reason I cannot or would not accept it. This is the same for pretty much any other democrat or liberal. We have no issue in decrying extremism. We do not shy away from calling Osama Bin Laden and the hijackers on 9/11 terrorists, who have committed atrocities in the name of Islam. We do not have issue with bringing terrorists to judgement, and acknowledging that their blight upon our world is a serious problem. And yet, people are quick to say that we are terrorist sympathizers, apologists of Islam, and that we would refuse to acknowledge something to be Islam inspired violence.
I am a believer that what this man did was truly an evil act. He took the lives of many people, and attempted to take the lives of many more. He killed in cold blood. He is a murderer that does not deserve my sympathy. The fact that I choose not to jump to conclusions calling this religious violence until the investigation is complete, does NOT make me a sympathizer.
