Trailer here. Looks a bit like TF2 mixed with L4D in an open world with added tower defense. Quite interesting.

Disappointed. I wanted Epic's new game to be based on that tech demo video they showed. With that shape shifter guy in a Blade Runner style environment.

Boy am I tired of that art style. Good thing they included zombies, y'know, to keep it fresh.

Team Left 4 Nite Fortress 2: Electric Boogaloo

Something to hold over until UE4...and a better UT title I hope.

This is not TF2's artstyle at all.

Also reminds me of Die2Nite.

Build house out of random materials, hide from monsters that come in the night. Where have I seen this before?

Cartoon-y style. Better?

Am I missing something here? is the gaming market overflowing with cartoony games and I didn't notice?

Even if it were so, I prefer this to the ever popular gray and brown "gritty" "realistic" art style we see everywhere.

Why you guys always be complainin' about stylistic graphics. Haven't we spent a decade railing against brown'n'bloom? Very few games have been adventurous enough to be cartoony, and every time it happens it seems about 90% of the anti-brown crowd suddenly becomes anti-colour.

Anyway, SourceForts + zombies + a bit of Minecraft is a win in my book.

My interest in this is solely based on how much freedom there is in designing shelter and salvaging parts. Could be amazing if done right, but I'm skeptical for now.

I see lots of questions asking if #fortnite is freeform construction. It is. It's not scripted or just boarding up existing structures.

I thought of Brink more than TF2.

Could be fun, as long as it is just scavenging for goods to survive the nights attack, but I'm sure they'll **** it up somehow.

That's pretty neat. Like somebody took the Sourceforts building mechanics, the TF2 / Pixar art style and the Plants vs Zombies setting and rolled them all up into one. Could be interesting.

Was thinking of Source Forts too. If this is done properly it'll be so orgasmic.

Lets see

Borderlands
Celda
TF2
Various shit for kids, DBZ etc

no ones really saying its a BIG part of the industry but it doesnt do much for me and it seems like a cheap trick devs use to get leeway with an unexciting game, remember Borderlands and how people felt before they cartooned it up? After they did it everyone was singing its praises

"Cartoon'y" is such a weak goddamned word. Stylization just keeps uncanny valley sidelined, it's a necessity as we no longer strive towards polygons and realism as primary development goals.

I was referring more to the character design than anything. Those heavily stylised, deformed body types are in every other indie/budget shooter now, probably as a means of getting away with less than cutting edge graphics while still having an attractive art style. Not saying it's any more overused than your brown 'n' bloom (it's not), just saying that I, personally, am sick of it.

Well I never got into TF2, so this art style doesn't bother me at all :/ really don't know why it'd bother anyone - if it works, it works. Looks like a good game.

What is wrong with this?

I can see tiring of it after a while. Pixar fever and what have you. I see his point now.

Yeah but this is just another version of party politics and/or false dichotomy. When games are realistic, we champion stylisation. When games are stylised, we champion cutting-edge graphics. It's pretty obvious we're just looking for reasons to either be wary of or insult this game that we don't know much about yet.

Nothing. Did I say there was?

People always seem to perceive a negative connotation to everything I say when I'm criticizing something. I can't imagine why this is the case. :v

"This game we don't know much about" yeah except it's art style which is what I'm criticizing funny that. By which I of course mean LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT IT IS TERRIBLE AND I WANT CLIFFY B TO DIE A THOUSAND HORRIBLE DEATHS

Yeah but everyone's criticisms are based on what the art style says about other facets of the game, or how the game might compare to others, and they all imply some sort of arbitrary terribleness on the part of the game or developers. The art style is bad because it covers up technological shortfalls in realistic character rendering (every game does this). The art style is lazy because it's become marginally more popular than it was several years ago. The game is uninspired because it has zombies. The game is a ripoff because other games have had you build stuff out of other, smaller stuff.

You were the least-bad offender, though :V

I am pretty tired of zombies. But hey, must be easy to code the AI. :v

Gears of War revolutionized cover, now it's time to revolutionize CREATION of cover :A !!!!

If they shamble mindlessly, they're zombies.

28 Days Later or whatever would like a word with you... or are those mutants? :y

I am pretty tired of zombies.

You know what I'm tired of? "Cinematic" games. With their cutscenes, quicktime events, restrictive roller coaster ride like feel.

Fast zombies.

I want an entire Valve game taking place in Ravenholm.

Father Gregory is such a hoss.
