Fortress Forever : A Team Fortress Conversion

The future of Team Fortress may not come from Valve this time around, because a group of extremely talented individuals are working on an exciting new take on CTF. They are working together for the sole purpose of creating a modification of Half-Life 2 that lives up to the complexity and fast paced action that the original Team Fortress Classic represented.[br]

[br]Read more about it at their brand new website, unveiled tonight at Fortress Forever.

Sweet. That's great! Can't wait.

*first post!*

Any game with the word forever in it is asking for bad news

HL2DM CTF :).

anyway, its great to see tfc being released for source. hopefully they can make 2fort look a lot more good looking. cant wait to see if they balanced classes as well.

Here are the other two pics, I'll have to fix them when I'm allowed back into the system :p

yes this newscript needs to get fixed or better or edited or godddamn!!

umm not to burst anyones bubble, but Valve are currently heavily underway on TFC2

If anything valve is working on TF2 not TFC2. TF2is a realistic type warfare game, atleast from the last videos we saw like three years ago. Anyways even if TF2 came out tomorrow I dont think it would change the FF teams mind about making the game. TFCers still want to play TFC, not valves "upcoming" cs clone.

TF2. TFC stands for team fortress classic. As in a port of the original Quake mod onto HL. TF2 is the sequal to the original not the remake of the original.

Wasn't this posted before, then removed, now it's up again. Some crazy weird stuff going on here.

SM is aware of the problem

Really looking forward to this one. The team seems very dedicated to recreating the "spirit" of Team Fortress Classic, and aren't deviating from the feel of the game. Their work looks amazing as well.

And to zorrobsu, thanks for not knowing what you're talking about. TF2 was what TFC originally was, to be released a few months after HL, and its original design was that of realistic weaponry and a less arcade-y feel than TFC has. For instance, your accuracy was supposed to increase or decrease depending on whether you were standing or moving, if you were crouching, or if you were prone. Of course they ended up moving that project to its own engine while releasing TFC instead. Now everybody thinks that TF2 is a CS clone because they're too uninformed to research a little. This was back in 1998, people, before HL's release.

Learn something before opening your mouth next time.

Yes and that's because of a script issue we've been having with pictures. I had this story the moment that the FF team went public with their new website, but I had some issues with the posting and then I was busy the last two days.

Sorry about that.

Ah :)

Why isn't any team dedicated to making a new TF rather than a new TFC. TF for Quake was a lot better than TFC was in my opinion.

Can't wait, I remember some of the dev team's previous work from my TFC days and it was top stuff.

/me can't wait

Hmmmm intresting... I still think TF2.9 (quake2) was the best version and basing it on TFC will anger the TF community as a whole. I actually think more people still play the quake2 version more than TFC for Half-Life 1. Anyway I really do think TFC lost the key elements in gamplay compared to TF2.9. I also think that Valve recruited the original creator of TF2.9 so that shouldn't be a problem for TF2 :p

good luck.

Never heard of this TF ver., can you provide a link for that mod?
Afaik the creators of QuakeWorld TF were in the early planning stages to create a TF2 mod for Quake2, but then they got hired by valve and scrapped it and since TFC there was no offcial release created by those guys .

I'm happy that there will be a direct port of TFC, sadly i never really played its predecessor, so i can't judge which one is better. Anyways, for TF2 i only hope that they don't fail to create the same thrilling and fun atmosphere. But until Valve decides to give out new info one can only guess how TF2 has evolved.

There's Q3F / ETF, latter one is 100% free.
For the Source engine there's Weapons Factory in the making, though it's more like MegaTF than regular TF.

thanks for the links :)

played weaponsfactory for q2, was pretty insane, but fun

I've played Q3F and it just wasn't the same lol.

i hope they make it EXACTLY like tfc first... new "ideas" scare me

hopefully it will atleast feature all the original features of tfc.

To clarify a few things (I'm one of the development team [Level Design, Gameplay Design and PR stuff]):

This is a fortress MOD mainly based on TFC, but it will be accessible for new players and other fortress players alike. We're not aiming to solely please the TFC players -- we fully intend to make a MOD that is popular across a broad spectrum of gamers and levels of experience (including other TF players). The MOD will have several features to ensure new players can pick it up and learn the ropes much faster usual. One of the failings of every TF mod to date is the fact that learning the basics without help is difficult compared to simpler games such as CS (by that I do not mean that CS is easy, I just mean the concepts of CS gameplay are simple to grasp). Please note that the accessibility to new players will NOT compromise the playability of the MOD, nor will it dumb the game down.

As well as catering to the new player, there will be a glut of features which blend together to form what we hope to be an irresistably flowing style of movement and overall combat. We are hoping that many of the gamers that traditionally look down upon TFC will actually give our MOD a chance when the time comes. Like I said, this is not just a straight port of TFC.

While we recognise that a great deal of gamers love the original style and features of TFC, we are also very aware of TFC's many failings. We intend to balance the gameplay as best we can, introduce some new features and also bring back the fun. As much as some people would like to see an unchanged port, they must realise the game must change to gain a healthy following. Many of the development team have played this game daily for in excess of three to five years. Interest cannot be sustained indefinitely by a static game. CS is a good example. While the changes are never universally welcomed (universally reviled, more like) they keep the game alive.

Stay tuned because we're going to be putting up new content as it's finalised. We shall also be hosting finalised gameplay details as things are tested and refined.

Please note that if you apply for a position as advertised on the website, PLEASE include sample work. We are getting two to three applications a day that simply do not include sample work. If you do not include sample work we will simply ignore your application. Also bear in mind we are looking for people whose work is of a high standard.

Cheers,
-Mark (Defrag)

Sweet, I have been playing TFC forever now and with this mod I can play a game that is like TFC but only have some new things as well.

The old TFC is just getting kind of boring with nothing new to mess with.

And the screenshots look so much better than what TFC looks like now.

There's still tons of stuff that is possible with the open ended entity system of TFC. Basically any game type can be accomplished with enough entities. A couple years back I worked out a resource system that let each team accumulate resource points to be spent by a team commander. Unfortunately I never worked in the commander stuff, but it's all entirely possible.

TFC is what got me into online gaming

I can't wait. GL : )

Finally some progress into some non official Tf mod....
F*** YEA!!! Hope its like TFC and more!
