Fortress Forever Released!

You guys should really specify that the hl2filefront link is for the server files so that idiots like me don't download it.

400 kb/s on a torrent for a first-day mod.

One of the few days I will admit the possibility of a God.

This is a really great first release mod. I love the feeling of the game. It feels just like the old team fortress. Unfortunately, I fear that it will be short lived when team fortress 2 comes out. I guess we'll have to see. But I know that it's what I'll be playing this weekend.

Played it for a good 2 hours, not a fan of TFC but this is cool. Not bad at all. But im 99% sure im going to like TF2 a lot more.

How can you say that with such certainty? Is it the graphics? I've seen all the gameplay videos and they weren't so awe inspiring that I can already make up my mind I'm going to like it.

Oh and I know you meant TF2, not TFC2 as there's no such game.

Playing as the spy is a lot of fun.

Only had one crash after 5 hours of playing, but I think it was my fault.

A very solid release and a lot of fun. It's just a real shame that TF2 will probably steal the limelight away from this fantastic mod.

I'm stoked that I can't even join a game. Every time I try, I get some engine error message....wooo.

So far the mod is very well done. It looks great, it plays great. It also has that classic feel with new additions to gameplay.

Anyone else freezing up when joining a game? Tried waiting for a long time and it just stays frozen near the end. Odd part is that I can create games, just not join them.

Man downloading...now...can't wait...have to find something to do for an hour...arh!

Because you downloaded the server version, there are 2 posts about it on 2nd page. :p

Round of applause for a working, and very good hl2 mod since Minverva! If tf2 wasn't coming out I would play this instead. Really fun mod but it's a shame Valve released their own TF2.

TF2 shouldn't and isn't the same as FF. FF is for classic TF gameplay, TF2 is for Valve's vision of it. There's no reason why you can't play both.

Does FF have grenades? They ruined TFC for me because of all the nade spamming. :/

It does. I tried playing as medic today, and I had hard time figuring out how the medic pack should be correctly used. I had to click the mouse button like crazy to be able to heal anyone.

I just hold it and it heals them, no multi-clicking needed.

The game is well polished but the maps are rather boring.

Fortress forever is kinda dissapointing. The graphics are ace, but they lack the life of TF:C. The noise. The people. The culture. Okay, not exactly, and I know its first realease...but eurgh.

Exactly. Thats why it sucks :p

After just playing a few rounds on two maps... dustbowl and cornfield, I'll have to agree with you.

The maps just feel really... bland.
TFC had nicely detailed and gritty maps, this just feels like it ported Quake 3 arena maps to source.
All futuristic and dull.

And I have to be honest, I can't find myself to enjoy the mod... I'd much rather play TFC as it's alot better paced... this is just way too ****ing fast, people flying all over the place and stuff.

Feels like TFC glossed over. I also think it's a good start. Your gaming experience depends on the server you're on. I was on one where it was tards and idiots and it ruined the game for me...then another where people played as a team and it was a lot of fun. Movement speeds felt good, the classes played close to TFC-style. I thought some of the maps were nice and some were pretty sophomoric (dustbowl looks like a HL1 map...stretched textures, gaps in displacments, over-scaled stuff, etc). I really liked the Heavy and the Engineer...both of them felt really good. The Soldier was solid as well. I felt the demoman was the odd-man out and didn;t see very many people using him. The spy was cool...but I killed them by the dozens as they knifed me (as a Heavy) in teh back...because they didn't kill me on first hit...all I had to do was swirl around and boom...

Here's how I think it'll pan out. The long-term TFC guys will try this and then TF2 and about 1/3 will remain with TFC, a 1/3 with FF, and a 1/3 with TF2. A lot will depend on their PC's because TF2 will take a lot of horsepower to run. I think the only chance this mod has for continued success is to update early and often and try and get as many of the hard-line TFC players to migrate over because most of them will probably NOT like TF2.

And jesus christ what the **** is up with the load times?

It took me 20 ****ing minutes to load one god damn map!

I haven't played, but consider it's a first release. I'm sure they will build upon feedback given, and improve the next release.

Solid release, didnt really see any major bugs. Had the tfc feel which is probably the most important thing tfc fans will appreciate. Art is not the greatest strength but I think with this type of mod you dont necessarily need it to be to have fun. Will play again this weekend for sure, hopefully on a server with some people who like to work together.

I tried to play but it didnt work. It got stuck on Retrieving Server info which happened to INS mod as well. Its really ****ing annoying.

It's probably still loading... it stays on that for a while for me too.

Both mods just take a damn long time to load for some ****ed up awkward reason. :frown:

Why do you think TF2 will take a powerful PC to run? Due to the cartoonish style, the graphics seem simplified.

Source engine games generally require a mid-range system to run, but you underestimate TF2's complexity. They look simple, but there's some subtle shaders being used there.

Like narvi said, if you watch that vids where they explain how the shading and lightning work in tf2, you will see it is really complicated.

I actually enjoyed the mod so far from the games I've played. Though, I only played Team Fortress Classic a few times, and didn't like it.
