Forza 3 vs. Real life

A lot of people say that Forza is pretty good in the realism factor, but people say GT5 does the realism better. I have no real answer for that, just going off of what the people I know that go out racing often say.

Gran Turismo has never seemed more realistic than other racing games to me.

Have you raced cars? That's what I was saying, they are the ones that take their cars out to tracks and they think Forza is too floaty feeling.

I'm not one for realism. Give me a car that can do turbo, explode going 250 mph, and ignite the whole city aflame, and I'll gladly purchase your game for $46.34.

Polar opposites with Shamrock.

I just think, why not make a rocket game or jet game or some other vehicle. There are so many vehicles out there to make a game about.

Why bastardize a car and have it drive nothing like a car? There is no other way to put it -- it doesn't drive like a car in any stretch of the imagination when you go from 0-300 miles per hour in 2 seconds and bounce off all the walls and do flips and always land right side up and telephone poles just crumble and you press a button to go the maximum speed the game can possibly render. No need for steering, the obstacles will steer the car in the correct direction for you.

Where is the challenge? The game play? How is that fun or interesting? I hate those games with a passion. Big Rigs Speed Edition. I find it very frustrating to imagine anyone liking it.

Oh you know what, I agree with you. I take back my statement. I want Diddy Kong Racing back, or any other of those incredibly fun racing games.

And honestly, I don't like racing games much at all. The last 'real' racing game I played was probably... oh god.. I don't even know. Mario Kart for Wii. Seriously, I don't play racing games just because they're incredibly repetitive, and I really don't care for them at all anymore.

Wait... a driver in a video made by the Forza 3 team says that Forza 3 is just like real life?

Go play iRacing/rFactor/Live For Speed if you want a realistic game (and, no, you don't just skid off the track every 2 seconds).

I'm more of an arcade racer also. *GRID anybody?* Whenever I pick up a game that has ANY sort of realism to it, I play it for the extreme challenge. Plus, I'm wanting to purchase a Logitech Steering Wheel for GT5, since there are no race tracks around here ;(

They are both more realistic than Outrun too, but that DOES NOT make them any more fun. :E

well very few of the critics out there (professional and otherwise) have driven an Audi R8 V10 at 200km/hr around a race course... so it doesn't make much sense for them to claim realism one way or the other
but when it comes to personal preference, I like the way Forza plays much more than GT

First off let me say:
I AM NOT A RACING DRIVER.

But I do have some experience with Auto-X and Time Attack/Max Attack events which I run in my Merkur XR4Ti, not to mention occasional bouts of street racing. Forza 2 was probably the most realistic racing game I have played up to this point, and I will probably buy Forza 3 just for the hell of it. But they are NOTHING like actual driving and they never will be because it is missing that bump in the seat, or the feeling of the G as you corner. But not even counting that, in Forza 2 at least I always felt like the car slid far too easily, even when running suspension upgrades and tire upgrades. And to a certain point I felt that some of them accelerated too quickly from a standstill. But then again, I suppose I wouldn't know. The closest I even came to driving a Lamborghini was sitting my butt in one at the LA auto show. However, come to think of it, my fathers friend bought a Convertible Shelby GT500 (6 spd manual) new in 2008 and I did drive that for a little bit, and I can say that even with traction control off, if you floored it you wouldn't just slide off the street.

What interests me more then all the super and hyper-cars in that game though are the ones that I have experienced, the ones I know about. The production cars that people do race and Auto-X, because I have a benchmark, I KNOW how a turbo-charged Miata will drive, and that is how I will judge Forza 3's purported realism.

Just a side note, something interesting to watch is an excerpt from the BBC show Top Gear in which main presenter Jeremy Clarkson attempts to match his lap set around Laguna Seca in an Acura NSX in Gran Turisimo with one where he is actually driving that same car around the real track.

I have rfactor and GTR evolution on my PC and played Forza2 religiously and put good time into GT5 Prologue. I play both PC sims and GT5 with the Logitech G25 setup and Forza2 with the microsoft wheel. As great a job i think they did with Forza and GT5 Prologue, they still don't offer quite the same realism and feel as rfactor in particular (still need to give iRacing a try) but they do a pretty good job, good enough that if you'd never played any of the more hardcore pc sims that you'd think they were not far from real (imo).

Forza2 is slightly let down by Microsoft's refusal to support Logitech's wheels. I know you can now get some pretty tasty wheels from Fanatec, but already having a G25 i can't justify the additional purchase. The G25 just gives a much better feel and much more realistic feedback in terms of detail and strength, which hurts Forza2 slightly (as much as i love the game).

Pitz: GT5 prologue teamed with the Logitech G25 is a great combination. Nice detailed feel and feedback strength that you can dial to your personal needs. Definitely makes you feel near enough driving a real car to get great enjoyment out of it.

3ssence: I was thinking of getting a G25 for GT5, but with the release of the latest one *The G27?* which is the exact same price as the G25.....I'll have to say the newer one I'll nab. Also, they say that the G25 has some dead play in it, is it something you just get used to, or does it constantly bug you?

The G25 is a nice solid racing wheel, got it in 2006 but then sold it a few months later, it was hard to find a comfortable setup for it.

Recently I've been pondering getting a Playseat for my racing wheel(s) and my Steel Battalion controller.

Holy crap me want.

*EDIT* Aaahh man, only in EU? This blows, I was going to seriously consider buying this.

I tried, they banned me!

Do you know of any places that sell those in the states by chance?

Nope, sorry. Not sure why they don't sell it to the US, but I do know that when I buy US products from inside EU, I have to pay a substantial EU VAT, this VAT was 'voted' in to the EU to encourage consumers to keep spending money inside EU, it's very possible it can go the other way as well maybe? I.e. substantial taxes on EU products to US?

I would bet it would be expensive with taxes. I don't know what it would end up costing, but I'd assume something silly like 1,000 USD. I guess I'll have to ask around and see if any other ones like this exist in the states :( OR MAKE MY OWN SOMEHOW.

I have been pondering getting one but at the same time I don't play that many racing games.

I don't either, but I think that seat would give me more motivation to play.

Is the G27 really the same price as the G25 in the US ?! Over here it's over double the price you can get a G25 for ! If it was the same price then i'd get the newer version obviously. If you didn't already have a wheel though then i'd be going for the Fanatec Turbo S wheel and pedals which can be used on all platforms and are supposed to be really good.

I've never really noticed any dead play in my G25, maybe the most marginal amount dead centre before the steering loads up. Other than that it's hard to fault at the price.

Damn, it's that price in pounds over here ! Whilst the G25 is more like 130-150. That's ridiculous.

the G27 doesn't have the sequential shifter but the G25 does, I figured that might be important to some people.

I've wanted some sort of gaming seat setup for a while now. I've just never really had the space to make use of one. It's a bit geeky but i bet it'd add another layer of immersion, not to mention the ergonomic benefits of having everything in just the right place.

Pitz, are you going to buy one? If you do , take pics and post the awesomeness!

I'm checking into buying one myself now, perhaps one of their special packages that include a G27, I can use it for GT5P and GT5 on the PS3!

Only problem is physical space, where to store it when I'm not using it.

That is the exact problem i've faced until now. What do you do with that big great thing (i know it folds) when you are not using it !

Since I don't use my living room for...anything..*It held my cars new exhaust system for a month or two, and also held my new tires waiting to get slapped on*, so I'll just leave it in there somewhere.

aahh, to be a bachelor.

:E

Luckily this is no longer a problem i have, so this has got me thinking about racing seat setups too. I do however need to decorate an entire house before i could even think about buying such a thing :( (or even setup my pc and consoles for that matter)

I quite like the look of the GamePod too. A little more pricey, but it looks really solid:

Must resist (for now) !
